If you are a JW, I'm quite sure you know well what their reaction will be. I didn't do any of the sort on my way out, but I did quite a few nasty disrespectful things.

I witnessed a couple of times people doing similar things.

I think that regardless of what the action is, their reaction is going to always be the same. They are brainwashed to believe any combination of the following (and/or act accordingly):

You became an "apostate" (their lingo) and whatever you say will be dismissed as "apostate talk"
They will use it as a way of "testing" their integrity to their believes
Leadership will use it to their advantage, setting you as a bad example; from that point on, forget about any good reputation you ever had with them
If it's not done in a disrespectful, disorderly manner, the elders may contact you for some kind of JC and the result (at least in their minds) will not be in your favor

The end result, I can guarantee you, is not going to be you leaving a mark or becoming memorable. If at all, you will be ridiculed or cited as a bad example, or as an example of how their "Jehovah" maintains his people united in spite of your "attack".

Annoying jws

a 'concerned' jw in my congregation rang me earlier and said she's noticed my daughter sits miserable at the meetings and said she's a right miserable girl in general.

i said she's happy and hyper when she's not at the meetings they're just really boring and she doesn't want to be there.

apparently i'm a bad parent coz she feels that way.

Yes, it's called a congregation. What gets to me is how entitled to get into your business without your permission they act.

What do you do when your Operating System is corrupted?

i was just thinking of an illustration that may apply.. what do we do if our computer operating system is corrupted?

perhaps through a virus, or because of outdated or corrupted technology?.

do we hang on to that computer because of sentimental reasons?

but i'm sick to death of seeing stereotypes about us.

We are NOT mindless automatons. I smoke an occasional cigar. I've been known to curse a bit. Hell, I even vote. Others in my congregation know all this (except the voting) and I've never been given a hard time about it.
Many of us ARE highly educated. I have a Masters Degree.
We are not all scraping to get by. I have a comfortable six-figure income.
I dont agree with everything the Governing Body does. But I believe they are good, sincere men doing their best,.acting on their understanding of the Bible. They certainly aren't getting rich!
I think many in the Ex-JW community act very much like the cultists they claim us to be. Rather than just go away and go their separate ways, they harrass us, make videos maligning us, endlessly whine about us and even go so far as to disrupt our meetings. If I decided to leave the JW's, I'd do just that. I wouldn't obsess over them.
I look forward to open discussions with JW's and others.

so last weekend, the jw's ring the bell and my wife answers.

we live in a heavily spanish neighborhood but don't really speak spanish.

i thought my wife was quite clear that she is a "sister" to them, but maybe the one in charge of the group didn't get the message.

1st month of fading

i'm nearly at the end of my first month of becoming inactive.

only my daughter knows.

i've had a cold half of the month so no questions or pressure has been put on me yet.

Any advice or ideas for phasing out successfully?

There's no cookie-cutter way of fading, as it is something that we call to whatever process you choose to detach from the WT.

So the only advice I can give you is, make every single decision well thought and to your own benefit. Whichever move you make, make sure that it brings you closer to freeing yourself from having to live the way you live as a JW, and don't forget to build support outside.

Once more thing (I know I said only one thing) remember that the JWs are not going to like or be nice about your fading. Don't expect their support or them reacting positively to it.
