Zeal vs Fanaticism. What is the difference?
by stuckinarut2 ina good friend of ours and i were chatting the other day about the difference between a zealous person and fanatical person.. what is the difference?.
why is someone praised for being "zealous" , but another person is mocked or condemned for being a "fanatical" person?.
how would jws be classed?.

I looked at the definitions for each, and the terms seem to be somewhat related.
zeal - great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective.
fanaticism - the quality of being fanatical.
fanatical - filled with excessive and single-minded zealSeems like becoming fanatical is an unhealthy exaggeration of being zealous. I hope this helps.

Ask the JWs about it.

If you're a guy, what's a (tangible)gift that you've gotten that stood out and why?
Have you considered asking him, or anyone near him that could tell? Not all guys like the same things. You might get a million different answers, though it can be good to get ideas.
That said, I'm practical, so I prefer to give gift certificates. That way the recipient can buy whatever they want. Sounds less personal, but it makes it their choice of what they would do with what I offer.

JW stopped me in the street.....
by Phizzy inhe pulled up in his car beside me and asked for directions, then he recognized me, we used to be in the same congo.. the usual pleasantries, i gave him directions, and then "when are you going to come back then" he asks.. "never" i say, "well, it has all changed" he says, " it's not like it used to be" i detect a tone of regret.. "but you know there is nowhere else to go" he boldly proclaims.. "yes there is !
" say i, "there is somewhere where you can find truth, and truth is supported by facts and evidence ".
he had to drive off then as he was blocking a narrow street, i did not get time to say " go to jw facts.com", i will tell him next time..

"But you know there is nowhere else to go"
Sadly, they truly believe that.

So I'm downtown and I see two JWs hanging out on a bench by a cart. I approached them and said, I saw you guys on the news, there was a child abuse cover-up in Philadelphia. They don't respond and just look at me. I go, You don't want to talk about that? I find that disturbing. The woman says snidely, Well how could I talk about it if I haven't seen it? I said you could look it up on your phone, she was looking at her phone right there. I'll look it up later she says. I said No you won't and I walked off.
What incredible gall.
I know in this forum people hyper react to anything that remotely mentions the JWs, but I'm going to say what I'm going to say, anyway.
to me her reaction is no different than the reaction of many non-JW people. Having worked in human services, in programs for people in situations of domestic violence, that attitude and refusal of acknowledgment is wide spread across the board. That woman being a JW has nothing to do with it. I've seen mothers react in the exact same way about their own daughters being sexually abused by their husbands, boyfriends or others.
The issue of covering up sexual abuse (or any other kind of abuse of exploitation) of children goes way deeper than the WT and their people.
I've seen quite a few "incredible galls" in this life, both JWs and non-JWs.

Story out of Sacramento demon possessed pioneers
No, poopie. I haven't heard. I however might have been one of those when I pioneered. I did quite a few inappropriate things as a pioneer, even by wordly standards.

The problem of being (or wanting be to) an Ex-Muslin
by no-zombie ini just finished reading a long article about the young people wanting to break free of islam in australia and the problems they face in leaving their high control religion.
the similarities between us and them is quite clear, as is how they woke up.
it's worth a read.. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-09/double-lives:-the-secret-ex-muslim-network-in-australia/9811340.

Thanks. There are similarities because high control and demanding groups are not about their doctrine; they are about the insane demands and control, and how it affects their members' behavior. I hope this helps those who still hang up only on what the WT says and teaches, and not on what they do.

The story of my congregation in the last five years.
by Crazyguy inlet’s start with the good news for the congregation that is.
two new sisters were added to the group a mother and her daughter.
then the bad news.

Tell us what’s going on in your congregation.
I know that this is intended for those who still attend meetings, but I find it saddening, considering that many active JWs might take it on themselves that their numbers are dwindling. Many JWs are led to believe that it's because they aren't being or doing enough. Some JWs believe that Satan can possess congregations because of allowing sinners, so I know some JWs are in internal turmoil because of it.
That's the sad part.
