Is remaining ignorant a choice?

is remaining ignorant about the society a choice?.

surely every witness has a moment in time when "something just doesn't seem right"?

perhaps a teaching, doctrine, an article, a talk, a news report about child abuse handling, or a jwdubdotorg broadcast, a video, a cartoon for the kids....you know....?.

Surely every witness has a moment in time when "something just doesn't seem right"? Perhaps a teaching, doctrine, an article, a talk, a news report about child abuse handling, or a jwdubdotorg broadcast, a video, a cartoon for the kids....you know....?
So, do we choose to remain ignorant. Do we choose to just say "oh it must be ok because the GB are always correct"?
Or in this day and age of easily accessible facts to research, do we allow themselves to dig a little deeper AS THE BIBLE ITSELF ENCOURAGES all to do.? After all, the very nature of our lives are dependent on facts.
Facts do not cease to exist just because they are ignored....

In my opinion, yes, it is a choice to remain ignorant. Is that the best choice? That's a completely different thing.

That said, when people choose to continue believing the nonsense that they choose to believe (and I certainly can't make this exclusively about the JW believes), I think that remaining ignorant is a secondary effect. In their brainwashed minds what they are choosing is "eternal life" or "the right side" or "the right presidential candidate"; it never is "I choose not to learn anything other than what ___ tells me".

The remaining ignorant and refusing to face facts is a side effect of brainwashing.

i showed the video from the midweek meeting of september 12th to my counselor to get her take on it.

she said that it clearly was a propaganda video and was appalled that it was shown to an audience that had small children in it.

she said that they could have been way more generic in their way of portraying the women as having been abused.. the subject of sexual abuse and the way the video zeroed in on it would have small children asking questions that really did not need to be addressed.

Thanks for this post, life is to short.

Like DATA-DOG, I learned about bestiality, adultery, fornication, anal sex, orgies and all those topics as a child and directly from the JWs.

As I said before and will continue saying, children mean nothing to that organization. Not a thing that those people do is in favor of children, but to cover their own backs.

My two cents, in short, and in my case, not completely. To me my recovery has been about minimizing the negative influence of that organization. It's not realistic for me to expect that I can remove the JWs from the first 23 years of my life, especially since I come from a large family and many of them are still in. I can't talk about my chilhood without mentioning the WT. It's just not possible.

That organization, whether I like it or not, is going to be present in my life, so my healing from it is not about disappearing it from my life, but rather not allowing them to dictate my life, my decisions or my relationships. It's not about eradicating its influence, but to keep it to a minimum and correcting anything that exists in my life as a result of its negative influence.

I don't hide that I was a JW, nor am I proud of it. I am proud of leaving and not allowing that organization and its nonsense continue controlling my life. I now have a history of living outside that organization and I have plenty of unrelated memories and life events that make my life a lot richer in spite of all the time I wasted in that organization.

I also find healing in the fact that the Wt nonsense was something that was imposed on me since I was born, not something I decided to join. As soon as I knew better I left, and since I have been living my life on my terms not theirs. That's good enough for me.

The bOrg Cult Tactics

i'm wondering if the borg actually studied mind control and coercion tactics deliberately or wether they just evolved over time through trial and error.

from reading steve hassans books, studying hypnosis and methods psychopaths use it all seems very complex.

like it would never occur to me to do a, b and c in the right order at the right time in order to get control of someone or control their lives.. for example, repetition of words (the word "loyalty" was a big one in the last convention), using loaded language, encouraging people not to trust their own thoughts, restricting their information, demonising those who leave etc.

My opinion, I don't think that many controlling groups, cults or cult leaders intentionally start a group or organization with the intention of controlling or coerce people. Many cult leaders have goodness at heart in the beginning. Later when they get a taste of power and control over other people is when they start getting ideas. Some others do start cults and organizations with the intention of having power and control over others. The bOrg is an organization made of a number of people, not just one leader, and it has evolved through the years. I believe that the level of control and coercion is deliberate now, and in high amounts, but I don't think that that's how that organization stared. I may be completely wrong as I have no idea about what the intention of Charles T Russel was when he founded the WT.

Many religions organizations that are very demanding (like the bOrg) tend to attract narcissistic, power hungry people in their leadership. I don't think that power, control and coercion are things that they need to get formally trained on, though.

Cart Witnessing in Hong Kong

i was away for a few weeks since i was on a nice vacation in thailand, hong kong and macau.

during my vacationi saw several jws in carts standing by different parts of the cities i visited.. i hong king, however, i noticed that they were a lot more and in a lot more places where i wouldn't think i would see jws with their carts.

they were at the entrance of men's rooms (and not by women's rooms) in public and (what i imagine is) private property (entrances of public transportation places and shopping malls).

Hello all. I was away for a few weeks since I was on a nice vacation in Thailand, Hong Kong and Macau. During my vacationI saw several Jws in carts standing by different parts of the cities I visited.

I Hong King, however, I noticed that they were a lot more and in a lot more places where I wouldn't think I would see JWs with their carts. They were at the entrance of men's rooms (and not by women's rooms) in public and (what i imagine is) private property (entrances of public transportation places and shopping malls). Some were actually quite aggressive approaching men coming out of men's rooms. Also, there were some people from some kind of Christian denomination singing with guitars and other instruments, and the JW cart was right next to them. They looked as if they were part of the other group.

Has anyone seen that happening in any other place? In Macau and Bangkok they were like I've seen them in other places, just in a public high traffic area standing (looking silly) with their carts and not approaching anyone, but in Hong King I saw them being more aggressive and in places that I personally found odd for them to park.

Thoughts?

i have recently been disfellowshipped (after being reinstated in march).

i saw a group of jws gathered in the town car park yesterday.

they seemed startled when they recognised my car and talked amongst themselves giving one another a satisfied grin!

Since then I have been wondering whether to attend the meetings just for the hell of it. The elders there and others (mainly men) who were uncomfortable with my presence and made it difficult for me until they drove me out. I hated the fact that they would be satisfied about it. I don't want to get reinstated I would just like to attend meetings and show them they have no power over me and I can be there if I want to. Thoughts please?

I'd say that life is too short and the world is way bigger than those congregation idiots. Forgive yourself for allowing yourself getting sucked into that nonsense and move on. You will be feeding into their nonsense (and it's all nonsense) simply to end up with them displaying power over you. You are never going to be able to make your point for as long as you are an outsider.

The JW POS's that attempted at doing that with me (talking among themselves and giggling as I passed by) were confronted with quite a few encounters with me. Every time that one of them saw me and star talking I'd go to them and ask them if there's anything they have to say to me or about me. I always got silence from them, and they got the message that they are nobodies.

It's not a bad thing that they see you and cross to the other side of the street. They are not running away from you; they are running away into their own stupid little bubble that gives them comfort. You represent all the things they feel inadequate about. Never forget that.

There are plenty of loving people out there, plenty of places to go where you can be accepted, and plenty of things to do to use your time wisely instead of getting sucked into their miserable lives.

i thought, ok the case in australia would open the eyes of the world about this dangerous cult.. well that passed without a ripple.

we talk about the un and the wt link, none jw's don't.

James, today scandal is an asset in some circles, look at celebrities and politicians today and see if they have any real care for what is morally correct (which is debatable, anyway).

So yes, I share some concerns about what you post, but at the same time, there is in fact awareness, there's not a lot of regard for organizations like the WT, especially in developed countries where information flows fast and it's easily accessible.

The WT is not going to disappear, and it will continue harming children as they cannot care less about children, but there is a lot more awareness today and because of some of those events.

one hundred years have passed and the society still supports this lie, which of course, is the basis of their other lies, like that of the unfaithful and not discreet slave appointed in 1919. however, i wonder, what will happen after 50 years, when the overlapped generation will pass?.

and if you want, what will happen with this religion in 2100?, could it survive with the same lie??

I'm afraid that the 1914 nonsense is going to last for as long as it serves their purpose. As soon as they find something to replace it or as soon as they run out of ridiculous explanations or "new light" announcements, I'm sure they are going to come up with a plan to have something else substitute it.

The fact that they are now conditioning their followers to (1) get use to changes as per their saying and (2) continue hiding, destroying and/or minimizing what they have said in the past under the excuse of "new light', gives them leeway to prolong what they preach.

In other words, the 1914 nonsense isn't going away for as long as it continues being their milking cow.
