... then I show up at a family event and I'm 28.
Are you kidding? Try that at 52!
the feeling of being disconnected from my family for so long makes me feel old.
i think it's because the people i saw all the time when i was younger i don't see to often and you really notice that change in little bits but over time it really shows.
the last time alot of witness friends i was 16, then i show up at a family event and i'm 28. that's life and i do get it but it really makes me feel old..

so my mum asked me to watch the broadcast and to my astonishment i got through it without smashing my screen haha.. so i let her know what liars they are for saying they would never deliberately distort a quotation.. she is ok for me to give her some printouts of watchtower material where this has in fact happened, contry to what they say.. where should i start and what would be your best link, or way to approach this.
i think this is a good opportunity of waking her up, if she can see that the broadcast has lied to her, she won't be happy.. any advice is you can give is so appreciated.. thanks everyone..
By now you have plenty of references. I'd suggest that you organize all the references and quotes by doctrine or topic. Also, try to find from her what does she hold on to the most. Some of the JW teachings speak to people more than others. Start with those when you're ready).
i had a conversation with my dad concerning the legal cases the jws are loosing and how their policies are still lacking.
he answered that he has confidence that jehovah will give his people the wisdom and discernment necessary to make the changes.
i then explained that most of the improvements were made as a result of various court cases, including the australian commission.. my dad: well, than, jehovah uses the governments to discipline his people just like he did with the jews.
Jehovah uses the governments to discipline his people just like he did with the Jews.
That is so wrong at so many levels.
It reminds me of my father and his magic Jehovah that has a simplistic answer to everything that they don't understand. How sad.
according to the great apostate, who spent time with police officers at the protest, they informed him that it was not watchtower who called the police in but another exjw who briefly attended the protest and subsequently disapproved of the protesters methods...claiming they were being "violent".. i find this very difficult to understand.
anyone who saw the bravery of the women who stood up in the kingdom hall and told the story of their abuse and rape could not fail to feel compassion and offer their support.. i know there are posters on this forum who disagree with me.they worry that such protests play into watchtowers "persecution" complex, and naturally i understand their position.. but really, how long do we have to fear their power over their members, and through their members, us.. many jw's simply do not know the extent of the paedophile problem,.they do not know about malawi, the un, the bloodless surgery guinea pig deaths ( thank you orphan crow), the suicides....i simply don't believe that protests don't work....if there are enough of them, and they are organized, and most of all if we are united...we shall make a difference, and that difference may be your loved one.. https://youtu.be/ffhr9onbdrk.
ExJW responsible for calling the police at the Warwick protest, NOT Watchtower
I don't agree with the protest, but it wasn't me.
I find this very difficult to understand. Anyone who saw the bravery of the women who stood up in the Kingdom hall and told the story of their abuse and rape could not fail to feel compassion and offer their support.
Please know that there are many ex-JWs out there who still have various degrees of attachment and believing in that organization. Some ex-JWs are not ex-JWs necessarily by choice (or "by choice"). Some were kicked out, but still believe and behave as if they are JWs.
Considering that, it doesn't surprise me.
hi all, just wondering if anyone is in the same boat.
wifey and i dropped off the face of the jw planet almost a decade ago and still get 3 or 4 visits a year mostly when we are not dressed or expecting visitors.
it's really annoying because we are both wondering why they don't get the hint already.. we don't want to move because we really enjoy where we live and both have careers that keep us in the area.. i've asked politely that they stop calling but like the "godfather" they keep "pulling me in.".
...still get 3 or 4 visits a year mostly when we are not dressed...
I'd remain undressed (just kidding).

I think it's ridiculous that you should even consider the possibility of moving because of them. They have no authority over you or any member of your family.
JWs love having the last word on everything. They hate the fact that you are free to do whatever you feel like doing and they have no saying on it. They might be provoking a situation where they can have the last word, simply because they just want to be right all the time and in everything.
Are the visitors the same people? If they are, I believe that you can be more direct (no need to be nasty, though), especially since by now you should have minimal or no investment at all in that organization.
I was very nasty and inappropriate in the way I send the message that I have no interest in any contact with them (I was too immature and too angry at the time for me to know better). However, I do believe that there wasn't going to be any nice way of setting boundaries with them.
Sometimes it takes a more direct approach to have them understand that they are not welcome when they come in to make you go back to their congregation.
If the people who come in to visit are not the same people, then my guess is that some idiot elder is giving a directive to have people visit you. In that case, I'd try to address the source of that directive, who's sending them. Then I'd be direct with that person.
i don't think anyone else has raised this point.
below i set out the case that the jw demographic in usa has a steadily decreasing combined income, and as a consequence, has less money to donate.
not only is the flock not growing, the flock is producing less wool for the borg to fleece.
As I said, not only is the flock not growing, the flock is producing less wool for the Borg to fleece.
The worst (or best, if you are a vindictive person) part is that showing that type of information to them, or to any JW look demonic to them. They run away from that kind of hard data.
is it strange for anyone else going to family events and seeing family you havent seen(in my case years)so in my family we have 2 different kind of family events.
either with worldly friends/non disfellowshipped witnesses and ones that are witness only.
i'll make my rounds at parties and say hello to mostly family.
But then I'll sit down and enjoy the party and see who goes out of there way to talk to me. It's nice to see some of the people who you wouldn't expect come say hi and wanna know what I been up to.
I think that's the right attitude to have. Enjoy the party and let them go through the discomfort and awkwardness. They create it, anyway.
we supposedly had more than a few “demonized” people in our congregation.
they would hear voices or feel internal punishment within their souls.
the answer was always—-these people were affected by the demons and they needed counseling!.
Was It Really Mental Illness or Was It The Demons?
Mental Illness. Demons don't exist.
granted, i'm a pimo status, so i normally just play on my cell phone and ignore everything during meetings and assemblies.
but at the assembly this past weekend, my ears were pricked for two experiences of two sisters dedicating themselves to pioneering.
this was probably because i was extremely freaked out by both of them.
I worked part time. I began asking myself how I could do more for Jehovah. If you have to ask, you aren't doing enough. So I asked my boss to cut my hours to 10 a week. At first everything was great. I was completely happy slaving for Jehovah and making disciples. Then my boss said we were understaffed and I would have to work more. I realized I could no longer slave for two masters. So I decided to be Jehovah's slave. And honestly, that's the best slave we should be. Something we all should aspire to. There's happiness being his little obedient slaves.
And those idiots from the GB still ask themselves why they don't have money.
i think with all the child molestation lawsuits the watchtower corporation is and has been hit with is the main reason for all the prime property sell off recently.
the silent lambs protest back in 2001, and the dateline prime time expose probably was the death knell for the watchtower's hey day in brooklyn.. their membership is drying up, young people are leaving in droves, the situation is no doubt far worse than the annually published yearbook figures show and so they ceased it's publication permanently.
and those left remaining are experiencing a huge grab of money from their congregations accounts and now are required to make pledges about how much they can contribute which i think is a last ditch effort by the governing body to squeeze more money out of the rank and file watchtower indoctrinated drones.. i think all this is happening because even those still loyally attending are hearing reports of these tremendous pay out that the watchtower is making to the victims of their self serving policies that put young ones at great risks so that even the rank and file don't want to contribute to pay court costs and so are withholding giving contributions to a very great extent.

I think that it's a combination of factors. The sexual abuse scandals raise awareness to the general public, but they have quite a few more issues to deal with, mostly consequential of their ridiculous business practices. Yes, the sexual abuse scandals puts them in a bad light to the general public, but they themselves are not exactly the most savvy people when it comes to properly running an organization. That is harming them too.
