Zeb, I hope you can also see the positive things about it, such as all the awareness that you have now about where all that comes from. You are out of that place and no longer waiting for them to behave the way they claim they do. I hope that now you have or can forge a better support system of people who really care.
And I hope one day you get to the place where you can just pass by them and can't care less about anything regarding them one way or another. meanwhile, there are people here who know well what you're going through and understand.
I don't think it's "tuya culpa".

Starting a X-Cult support group. Any suggestions?
by Still Totally ADD inmrs. add and i have seen a need in our area for this.
it all started over month ago when she gave her yearly talk on what is a cult at our local uu congregation.
their was several newcomers in the audience who have recently left the high control cults.

With that said is there any advice or suggestions you could give us to help us make this group work? We would appreciate any thoughts or ideas. Thanks for listening. Still Totally ADD
Look for reputable, reliable organizations that are already doing that. One good starting point may be this one.
I used to go to a group for people who have survived and/or lost loved ones to groups. They are very interesting, and the stories that people have made me feel fortunate that I was not in that kind of cult.
I think a lot of people would benefit from such group. If it forms, it will be grate if people know more about it.

Most interesting info you've found
by Freedom rocks ini was wondering what is the most interesting or the strangest fact you've found out since leaving the jws about:.
the bible.
god .

The bible
Horror by finding about too many people making important life decisions based on the nonsense written there, thousands of years ago in archaic languages and written at the time when humankind was the most naive about the world around them.
God
I found that I can have/have has (so far) a great life having that concept out of it altogether. Nothing bout that concept bother me, and I feel good about not giving a damn one way or another.
Evolution
It will always remain a theory since we cannot travel back in time and witness what happened, but it really makes a whole lot of more sense than the story of some woman coming out a man's rib, and some serpent tempting them... you know the rest.
Satan
The existence of Satan was my first doubt about all Christian religions. The existence of that character makes a lot less sense than their Jehovah.
Jesus
There's plenty of historical proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed and was in fact a real person. That's as far as I care about Jesus, and that's all I needed to find out. Other than that, everything about Jesus being the son of God, walking on water an resurrecting people is nonsense. I like the South Park and Family Guy Jesuses better.
Religions in general
The most important things I learned about religion in general are:
- They are to be respected as they do play an important role in society. Some people need it in order to have a sense of structure in their lives, a way of socializing, and access to some community services.
- They should exist and remain, in fact, considering the insane raise of violence in the USA, and all the hate, and all the racism, and all the crap that people waste their time doing, religion seems like a better alternative.
- Just like anything else, religion can be abused and used for malicious purposes. Religious abuse is the cause of many mental health problems in people (source of information as to why I say that)
How did the information you found affect or change your whole belief system?
It has made me better informed and sensitive to other people's feelings and believes. The most important thing is that it took away that ridiculous grandiose attitude that many JWs develop for being in "the truth" (I was no exception). In reflection, I cannot believe how disrespectful of other people's believes and feelings I was. If you see some of my posts, imagine me when I was convinced that I had the one and only truth.
The more research I'm doing the less I'm starting to believe in anything to do with the bible, religion and God
If I can suggest or opine, research, read and learn with no expectation in mind. Don't do it to proof anything right or wrong, just listen, read and research and keep an open mind. If at all, you will be more human and sensitive to why some people hold on to what they believe.

When did Cook, the new GB member, start claiming to be anointed, and what are the implications?
by jwfacts inkenneth cook was a "helper" in the writing department, which is apparently a role for those of the great crowd.
watchtower 15/10/15 p.3 states that helpers are of the great crowd.
"since 1992, the governing body has appointed experienced, mature christian elders to help its committees carry out their work.

I agree, however, look at what it implies. Is rising to the top in that organization worth it? What do you get from that? The illusion of going to heaven and reign with Jesus or living forever on Earth surrounded by those same people. And the things that people have to give up to get there are beyond ridiculous.
To me that proves that it never is about the well being of people; it's about nobodies feeling like somebodies by exercising power over other people's decisions.

Final Episode of David's Story regarding sexual abuse and Jehovah's Witnesses was released today....
by dubstepped ini've just released the final podcast from david's story which is a bonus episode formed from a discussion that we had in the pre-interview.
i think that it contained some valuable information and insights through our discussion of not just the response (or lack thereof) to sexual abuse within the cult of jehovah's witnesses, but also about other related matters.. i hope that david's openness about his life has made an impact on others, and invite any that listen to leave him a word of encouragement at http://shunnedpodcast.com/episodes/ under either episode 6, 7, or 8, all relating to his story.
i was fortunate enough to be able to take part in the telling of his story and it has impacted me for sure.. you can find the "shunned" podcast on itunes (apple podcasts), google play, wherever you choose to get podcasts, or streaming right from my site on the page linked above.

Is the USA too big?
by Diogenesister infred deftone on another thread about the tragic events at m. stoneman douglas school:.
the us constitution wasn't written for 50 states either.
the country has gotten too big and i think the solution is fragmentation.
-
scratchme1010
I'm not sure if my question will be seen so I thought I'd start a thread: what does everyone, particularly our US cousins, think about this statement?
The size of the country doesn't necessarily affect the spirit of what it was written for. Also, there is no need for fragmentation either. It is already fragmented into, well, 50 STATES.
Would it help, or hinder, issues like immigration, national security, safety and gun control ?
No. The issue with whatever problem, real or perceived, has nothing to do with the size of the country.
And if you had the choice which states would you like to be together and, or, live in if you got to make the decision?
No changes. The issues here are not laws, nor the size of the country, nor which state should be together with which state. Not to mention that segregation and dividing things (and USA has quite a history on that, yet they still don't learn the lesson) doesn't work.
Or would you keep it just as it is ( do you maybe have just one state you would jettison, and why ?!!!)
I don't see what the rationale behind separating or segregating states will do. Sometimes I wonder about New Jersey... but that's what every other New Yorker does. Joke, aside, no. Separating states is not a solution to anything. What would be next, deporting people to the other states when they don't agree? What makes people think that an entire state, every single person in it shares the exact same ideology? And most importantly, what does any of it has to do with a shooting in a school?
Also, is the second amendment, in your opinion, relevant in the modern world and would you keep it in your dream union?
It is, in my opinion. When it was implemented the forefathers might have something completely different in mind than what the NRA today has, but it should remain in the constitution. Besides, the issues we face today have nothing to do with laws or the constitution. You cannot legislate attitude.

Where some of the money is going - from AM III
by Listener inthere is a public talk given by tight pants tony on youtube titled "the real armageddon, why, when"his talk, as usual, doesn't make much sense.
he says armageddon is not a nuclear holocaust or an asteroid hitting the earth it's god's war against all the political nations of the earth.
he talks about a celestial phenomenon that will be phenomenal.

...a celestial phenomenon that will be phenomenal...
This part reminded me of my first time with my husband. The rest of whatever that idiot has to say is pure garbage.
