Has anyone personally experienced this type of therapy?
Not me personally. I have a friend who has. Make sure that the person administering is a reputable mental health professional. Also, it's wise to get e second opinion.
two+ months into marital counseling for my wife (pimi) and i (pimo).
wife after decades of marriage decides for the first time to bring up separation due to, drum-roll please...... absolute endangerment of spiritual life.
a spouse may constantly try to make it impossible for the mate to pursue true worship or may even try to force that mate to break god’s commands in some way.

digimon, pokemon, hello kitty, "waka waka" by shakira... are things that all of a sudden became frowned upon because of a random menopausal jw housewife that read an e-mail chain that said that those things were satanic.
furthermore, we were explicitly warned about pokemon and waka waka from the platform of a district convention.
have you experienced more examples of such mastery of critical thinking?
Have you experienced more examples of such mastery of critical thinking?
Way back when there were people in the congregation who were obsessed with that shit. One woman in my congregation started scrutinizing my father's blazer buttons because they had some kind of symbol that may be satanic. That's the stupidest thing ever.
mrs. add and i have seen a need in our area for this.
it all started over month ago when she gave her yearly talk on what is a cult at our local uu congregation.
their was several newcomers in the audience who have recently left the high control cults.
@OnTheWayOut, great point. I'd like to add that to the group I went, every now and then there would be some people who were more into support and recovery as a lifestyle, wanting to share and make the group something that was not. One lady was convinced that she needed help because she was hypnotized and when she "came back", she didn't completely and wanted the group to help her recover the part that was missing. Another guy wanted us to help him get his wife back that left him for other guy and he claimed that it was "mind controlled by him", and we could help him.
However, those were two out of a rather large number of people who had real stories, real needs for support, and real family members that they lost to cults, some of which had not been in touch with them for years. I don't want bad apples to be discouraging to the idea.
Not sure if there should be requirements or some kind of intake to improve the quality of the group, but there should be a plan for people who may want to make it something out of its scope. When groups are open to the public, high chances are that there will be people with no business belonging to that group coming to it for other reasons. I've seen that happening. At least, have a great facilitator that can make the group and the conversation remain on point and within scope.
i was reading another thread about the new gb member and it got me wondering if anyone knows someone who partook of the emblems at the memorial even though they knew they weren't 'anointed' just to see what reaction they got?
did they get questioned by elders?
did people start treating them differently?
In my congregation it was some sort of taboo to ask questions about that, at least us the children. There were people in the congregation who partook and I overheard some of the adults in the congregations whispering about them behind their backs. I was more mortified about their backstabbing gossip than whether or not the person was a real anointed or not.
a person who used to post here is quoted in this article.. i hate to be a biotch, but since this has happened multiple times here, let me just say this: please do not be an asswipe and "out" her here because it would connect her real name to her username on this forum, and all the highly personal stuff that goes with that.
disclosing that is her decision, not yours.. ok, now that we have that out of the way, here's the article.
it's pretty great to have the political and religious radicalism connected to dubbery in this way.
Thanks. I don't feel like paying for access either, but thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll find more about it from other sources.
I don't mean to be an assswipe here, but as for being outed, seems like you know who that person is. Any reason why is she not sharing about it herself?
so sad!!!!!.

Sad. Just sad.
just a few hours ago i took my wife (uber) to the hall with eats she had prepared as the cong are doing some work there.
i had not set foot onto the kh property in years and my stomach went into a knot as i did.
well what happened?
Zeb, I hope you can also see the positive things about it, such as all the awareness that you have now about where all that comes from. You are out of that place and no longer waiting for them to behave the way they claim they do. I hope that now you have or can forge a better support system of people who really care.
And I hope one day you get to the place where you can just pass by them and can't care less about anything regarding them one way or another. meanwhile, there are people here who know well what you're going through and understand.
I don't think it's "tuya culpa".

With that said is there any advice or suggestions you could give us to help us make this group work? We would appreciate any thoughts or ideas. Thanks for listening. Still Totally ADD
Look for reputable, reliable organizations that are already doing that. One good starting point may be this one.
I used to go to a group for people who have survived and/or lost loved ones to groups. They are very interesting, and the stories that people have made me feel fortunate that I was not in that kind of cult.
I think a lot of people would benefit from such group. If it forms, it will be grate if people know more about it.
i was wondering what is the most interesting or the strangest fact you've found out since leaving the jws about:.
the bible.
god .
The bible
Horror by finding about too many people making important life decisions based on the nonsense written there, thousands of years ago in archaic languages and written at the time when humankind was the most naive about the world around them.
God
I found that I can have/have has (so far) a great life having that concept out of it altogether. Nothing bout that concept bother me, and I feel good about not giving a damn one way or another.
Evolution
It will always remain a theory since we cannot travel back in time and witness what happened, but it really makes a whole lot of more sense than the story of some woman coming out a man's rib, and some serpent tempting them... you know the rest.
Satan
The existence of Satan was my first doubt about all Christian religions. The existence of that character makes a lot less sense than their Jehovah.
Jesus
There's plenty of historical proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed and was in fact a real person. That's as far as I care about Jesus, and that's all I needed to find out. Other than that, everything about Jesus being the son of God, walking on water an resurrecting people is nonsense. I like the South Park and Family Guy Jesuses better.
Religions in general
The most important things I learned about religion in general are:
How did the information you found affect or change your whole belief system?
It has made me better informed and sensitive to other people's feelings and believes. The most important thing is that it took away that ridiculous grandiose attitude that many JWs develop for being in "the truth" (I was no exception). In reflection, I cannot believe how disrespectful of other people's believes and feelings I was. If you see some of my posts, imagine me when I was convinced that I had the one and only truth.
The more research I'm doing the less I'm starting to believe in anything to do with the bible, religion and God
If I can suggest or opine, research, read and learn with no expectation in mind. Don't do it to proof anything right or wrong, just listen, read and research and keep an open mind. If at all, you will be more human and sensitive to why some people hold on to what they believe.
kenneth cook was a "helper" in the writing department, which is apparently a role for those of the great crowd.
watchtower 15/10/15 p.3 states that helpers are of the great crowd.
"since 1992, the governing body has appointed experienced, mature christian elders to help its committees carry out their work.
I agree, however, look at what it implies. Is rising to the top in that organization worth it? What do you get from that? The illusion of going to heaven and reign with Jesus or living forever on Earth surrounded by those same people. And the things that people have to give up to get there are beyond ridiculous.
To me that proves that it never is about the well being of people; it's about nobodies feeling like somebodies by exercising power over other people's decisions.
