  Critical Thinking-is that phrase a stigma?

  when i first heard the term 'critical thinking' it was as a teenager during a watchtower study.

  the study went on to elaborate how we shouldn't be swayed by critical thinking.

  there was no explanation that the term didn't mean 'to criticize' thoughts and words, but rather that it means 'to objective think and to evaluate thoughts and words'.

  Just to confirm from my 50 years of JW-ism - Critical Thinking in JW-dom = Independent Thinking = rejecting the Organisation . That is what I was told and taught !

  NELSON MANDELA and Winnie Mandela attended the funeral of Mandela's first wife Evelyn who was a JW - He was accorded no special prominence or even a reserved seat etc No fanfare and no press - But then again maybe the Mandela Foundation had not contributed to the Glorious Ones !

  And dear Sister Evelyn received a standard J-Dub funeral talk [ Not that she would have sought 1 iota of prominence - I had met her. Special person ! ]

  I do recall people being refused use of the KH for funerals due to the persons past record - eg suicide deaths are never given a KH service -

  Also if person was df-ed at time of death - regardless of the crime - no KH funereal ! Gotta keep the Mothership sanctified and pristine.

  Grab hold of your wife to be's tits in a moment of passion after a nice date and you are reproved and your pending marriage in the KH is disallowed ................

  But if you are going to give bucks to Mother ..............ABSOLUTION occurs/

  i am thoroughly surprised nobody has brought this up yet, but two of the original songs released last year, "i give you my best" & "jehovah welcomes you home" were performed by george benson, and the first one was a duet with singer sheila hutchinson, the same one who did duets with him over 10 years ago for the cancelled album mentioned in our kingdom ministry.

  Big League Stuff - what with another post hinting at a possible USD 900 000 gift from the late Br Prince - superstars are good to have around - they do eventually die ! So suck-up to them !

  Have met and spoken to Benson when he did concerts over my part of the world - very down to earth guy - also corresponded for some time over e-mail with him along with jazz Flautist Hubert Laws.

  Benson attended the local KH during a jazz festival he played at here.

  i haven't gotten involved in much commenting and i am not very assertive by nature so i've steered away from participating in debates.

  it has been 21 years since the 1995 article that pretty much buried the idea of the '1914 generation'.. remember those guys?

  the ones born in 1914 that would still be alive when the end of the system arrived.. i'm glad i'm old enough to remember going from door to door, preaching this belief.

  the reason i say that is because i have a lot of 'still in' jw friends and family.
