I can see why you are so fustrated. When we were still "in" I confronted some elders about talking negative to others about us behind our backs. These were longtime "friends" and comrades. They told me they wouldn't talk about it with me because it was "confidential". That sure opened my eyes real quick.

Went to a rock concert where we used to go to the D.C.s.
by RoosterMcDooster inwe are not far from the facilities that they use for the d.c.s, but this was the first time we went there since a d.c. my wife asked me if it made me feel weird to be going to a rock concert here.
it didn't bother me a bit, but i did notice something i thought was interesting.
when we used to go to the d.c.s there was so much hype about how much "better" we were than the other users of the facility.

Thanks Jamiebowers, I really appreciate that! For 20 years we were told we shouldn't have any friends outside the org, and then slowly finding out we had no friends inside the org it's hard to start over. So, thanks I needed that.

When we used to go to the D.C.s there was so much hype about how much "better" we were than the other users of the facility. As, in well behaved, orderly, not rowdy, safe from crime etc. So I have to admit I wasn't sure what to expect after being conditioned to think that way. I envisioned a rowdy crowd, pushing and shoving, obnoxious people, mabey a few muggings, perhaps some fights. I have to say, I was much more comfortable at the concert. People were friendly and orderly, parking was much easier, nobody "bothered" us. Of course there were some obvious differences, nobody wore suits, most men had beards and everybody drank alot of beer. It was a bit of a continuation of sureal moments for me as I discover that the world isn't really full of wicked, evil people out to get me at every turn. There are a lot of good people out there. And I hope to make many good friends.

Do you miss "dressing up" for the meetings?
by dozy ini was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.
all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.
my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.

No way! I always felt rather silly "dressing up", sort of like a clown wearing a monkey suit. Whenever I would get those "compliments" like "nice suit" or "I like your tie", I would say thanks or whatever. But I would think to myself -your nutz-.......However I did appreciate compliments on my beard. So, thanks, if any of you are here it always made the meeting better!

Did you ever have to walk out of/shut off a movie when watching with JWs?
by keyser soze ini can only recall one occasion.
it was when my brother and future wife were dating.
they had dinner at my parents' house, along with her uber-zealous/borderline psychotic parents.

Amelia Ashton's post reminded me of another elder and fam that thought all disney was demonic because walt disney belonged to a satan worhip cult. (Of course they also didn't own a microwave because they thought they cause cancer.)

No, but we found out pretty quick to keep our movies to ourselves after some began to complain about star wars. I know several elders and their familys that liked the pirates of the carribean series. You can't watch pokemon or narnia, but p.o.t.c. is o.k. I remember one elder and wife that let us check out their movie collection and it was full of R movies, we went -gasp-.

Hi guess i may have to introduce myself
by rickisteel inhi im from the uk im 42 years old , i was brought up as a witness from birth to 12 years of age i left the meetings with my parents ,.
i had a wild youth was a bit of a rebel involving alcohol ,drugs , heavy metal and motorcycles , i was thrown out of home at 17 my sister was 14. and was discarded as my parents remarried and neither of there new partners wanted us (baggage) , anyway by the time i was married and 21. somebody spiked my pizza with lsd (cant remember the flavour ) and for the next 3 days i thought the world was ending , i called my dad and rambled some stuff to him ( cant remember exactly but the world was ending in my head) a little while later i got a witness call briefly , i found out where he lived and went and asked him for a bible , he suggested i have a bible study me and the wife took the offer and so it began again , i was baptised in 93 and went from strength to strength in the truth , aux pioneering , volunteered for everything , talks , cleaning , meeting parts etc was soon appointed and moved on giving public talks , assembly parts , shepparding calls etc , then in 1997 my wife fell down a kerb and damaged her cruciate ligaments several operations later and disabled ( by the way the brothers /sisters in the cong were great at this point ) my wife began to act odd 1n 1999 she tried to take her own life and over the next several years took 26 overdoses and spent much of her life in phychiatrict hospital in 2001 she was bi polar disorder type rapid cycling (not the common oh i feel a bit low type bi polar but the full blown rollercoaster ride bi polar) .
the thing that struck me was i began to feel like a leper and despite a couple of close friends nobody in the cong or on the circuit( long time friends) seemed to care , i brouht up the kids on my own visiting my wife in hospital and caring for her at home , i felt so alone , when i used to take the kids to the meeting / assembly on my own i just got tutts and sad headshakes "she not come" ?

New here
by Change Name ini had been studying with the jehovah's witnesses for the last couple years.
they have been interesting study sessions and have learned quite a bit about them and their beliefs.
much of what they teach is what i had learned through personal bible study.. growing up was normal.

Kidding aside. Name Change if you are sincere in your beliefs thats fine, we all can believe what we want to. But why make your original post?
