Hey who here as a kid added little embelishments to the WTBT publications? A real favourite was drawing in arrows and spears on the guys on the inside cover of the song book. You know the ones clutching both hands to their chest as they sang their hearts out....well all of mine were actually clutching at an arrow that was sticking out of their chest. It passed the time during a boring WT as a kid and sometimes you'd have to get up and go to the toilet, because your brother next to you would draw something really funny onto one of the WT pictures and you were going to bust yourself laughing. Oh those were the days!!!

I'm sure I already know the answer, but...
by puppylove inwhy is it that most r&f witness can take anything the gb dishes out and swallow it whole?.
my mil takes everything she reads in the wt and calls it "meat in due season".
i guess this week's wt is about patience.

AhHah,
Your commentI guess this shows just how powerful (or actually, weak) is the human need to believe, no matter how poorly supported the faith is. There have always been those who will gladly exploit that weakness and there always will be. I keep wondering, however, why so many will allow the price they pay to believe beyond belief to keep going up wihtout questioning.
made me think about a book I read quite a while ago. 'The Source' by James Michener. Its a hell of a read (about 1000 pages in small print), but its really interesting stuff. -

What Makes us so Special
by Angharad intoday at my son's nursery school parents were invited to a harvest festival.. all the children brought in a contribution (tin of soup, fruit, veg), a local minister came in and talked to the kids about how seeds grow into food (but not tins of soup), and how we should be grateful for our food and then they sang a few songs they had learnt, basically they had fun.
there was nothing particularly religious about it apart from the minister being there.. there were children of all different religions there including my son as i could not see the harm in allowing him to stay and join in.. however there were some other witnesses there to collect their children so they would not be a part of it which is their choice and i respect it but i was given alot of disapproving looks and some people completly ignored me.. was it really so wrong to allow my 3 year old (who really has no concept of religion) to join in and have fun and not be made to feel different and left out?.
also the food which was contributed was later going to be distributed to the elderly and infirm in the community - what is more useful to them, a box of food or a watchtower.. .

Hey Angharad !
I know exactly where your coming from. Not only were we the new family in town (the kind of town where they marry their cousins) when I was a kid, but we were also the "freaky religious family", and to top things off my mother was a teacher at the local school and I happened to be above average in the smarts department. Gee no wonder I had no friends my entire school life. Kids are cruel and not only was I picked on for being new, but there was all the stigma attached to JWs, half of it wrong, like 'you guys dont eat meat and dont believe in Jesus......', and to top it of my mother refused to include any 'worldy things..easter, christmas, etc in her class room teaching and her pupils vented their anger on me.
I remember as a 9 year old wishing that armegedon would come on a school day so I would have the pleasure of seeing all the kids who picked on me, struck down by lighting bolts or whatever. What warped things were going on in my head even back then. -

top 10 things men/women love/hate?
by Pathofthorns inthis link to the witnet singles (aka "dating twilight zone") was pretty good.

I loved the wonderbra comment. LOL
Its a argueing point Ive had with my mother. If your a "good" girl, but wear push up bras all the time isnt that going to be a big dissapointment for your hubby on your wedding night? False advertising really!!
I think the perfect christian wife is actually big boobs, tiny waist, low IQ, no opinion or interests of their own, a good cook, willing to mirror his mother in every way and a god like reverance for the man of the house. Ooops I forgot the part about being willing to have heaps of snotting kids who whinge throughout every meeting, after all sex is just for procreation isnt it. -

The great crowd
by Zep injust been watching the olympics.remember the opening ceremony with all the lights and fire works and stuff.and when all the athletes finally marched into the arena, looking all triumphant and joyful.the first thing i thought of, was all those pic's in wt literature, of that multi-racial great crowd marching on up to mount of jehovah.maybe the opening ceremony is a glimpse of what armageddon is going to be like for all the wt faithful.of course, theres going to a couple billion dead bodies strewn everywhere, and lots of blood, but other than that, i think the opening ceremony captured the moment real well.too bad i aint gunna be there.
all those buzzards and vultures will be picking my carcass bare.... hey, what about the 4 by 100 mens relay for swimming.didn't the u.s. absolutely suck on that one!!!!!!!!.
who thinks marilyn jones is on drugs btw????????...ah!

I agree with the Marilyn Jones comment. Theres drugs out there that they cant even test for, so basically the Olymics is just like Woodstock except less music and more athletic... only joking.
But I must say that JJJ's commentary on the Opening ceremony was heaps better than channel 7's, so we watched the tele with sound off and put the radio on (tip for Aussies for the Closing ceremony).
I didnt catch the Judo, but did you see the Polevaulter get hammered in the goullies by his pole? It brought tears to my eyes.
I guess that Sydney witness's will be having all their conventions at Homebush in the future, maybe they can do the baptisms in the same pool that the Aussies won all those gold medals in. -

"You Can Be Happy No Matter What"?
by AhHah inin my response to path's post "it's been kind of dead around here lately", i mentioned a book written by richard carlson, ph.
d. entitled "you can be happy no matter what".. i am wondering if anyone else has read it or one of his "don't sweat the small stuff" books -- if so, what did you think of it?.
it helped me put some things in a good perspective and has helped me to take responsibility for and control of my thinking and my feelings so that i have more control of when i feel happy.

I havent read either of those, but a good book IMHO is The Road Less Travelled. by M.Scott Peck.
It helped me get my head around a lot of things and I feel a lot more settled in my self now. -

The first thing that came to my mind after reading that was 'next this guy will be agreeing with female genital mutilation... "why not but the girls out of their sex crazied misery and do them a favour, then their virtue will be intact and everyone will be happy". What Id like to know was if this guy was ever married, if so for how long did his poor wife tolerate this 'put the girlys in their place' attitude?
I used to really hate the position that women were deligated in the congregation. I used to sit through bible readings and watchtower studies with grit teeth as guys would stumble through mispronouncing words and clearly not understanding what they were reading. Extremely frustrating when your a speed reader, with an above average IQ. My father used to glare at me because I would groan quite audibly everytime certain individuals would make a mistake reading...I only did it to piss them off though. -

Unevenly Choked
by RedhorseWoman inhe hit you, and your parents think all you need to resolve are spiritual matters?
run.....really fast.. what this brother did was to assault you.
you would be well within your rights to charge him with that.. one of my friends married a brother who seemed absolutely wonderful.....a little tempermental, but his father was an elder and he was well thought of in the congregation.

Oh Seven !! you run girl and dont look back. People who need to resort to violence to get their point across just arent emotionally mature, perhaps thats the way they learned to deal with things from their parents, whatever the reason is you dont have to be anyones punching bag. If every time your together you fight then there seems to be an underlying problem ( probably on his side by the sound of it) that isnt been discussed and the tension or frustration is resurfacing in other more mundain things. Couples can argue about things...if we all had the same opinions what a boring world this would be, but to lash out physically to get your point across is just showing a lack of self control (maybe you should drag him to the elders! I know what Im talking about, Ive experienced it first hand. First you justify their behaviour by blaming yourself..."I provoked it" ..."Im not good enough"...then you tell your self so actually might deserve it.
After a while you lose your self respect and you lose respect for them...try loving someone you have no respect for...it doesnt work.
He needs to get some counciling or something but thats not your problem either. Hes got to recognise and admit he has a problem and then do something about it.
Messing up and then doing the flowers, chocolate, Im sorry routine just doesnt cut it. Hes not sorry, hes just sucking up and as long as you put up with it that will be the standard of the relationship. -
