Watching Piers Morgan the other morning heavily criticizing Sadiq Khan, it occurred to me that perhaps it's time for Piers ( and others) to put their money where their mouth is and run for Mayor. Let's see what they'd do differently....It's easy to criticize and find fault...it's another thing to offer a solution.

Book of Revelation
by Whynot inone of the things that really bothered me is how most of the book of revelation isn't understood by most jws.
most of the trumpets were already sounded many decades ago, is that still right?
it seems like most jws just look the other way.

William Barclay made some good comments about the relevance of Revelation being of it's time and not prophetic...
Unbelievable in retrospect to think how we stretched minds and tried to make sense of it in the Climax Book....with it's grim images etc.

Will The Governing Body's Shunning Policy Backfire On Them Eventually?
by Brokeback Watchtower inwe all can agree that the disfellowshipping arrangement benefits the wt corporation by keeping the indoctrinated in servitude, make members afraid to doubt the corporation's teachings and explanations because they can be disfellowshipped for saying anything negative about the corporation or it's ceos or not agreeing with some new light.. but what about negative effects caused by the harsh use of disfellowshipping to the corporation, what could they be?
it's a two edged sword..

Shunning etc could change or be 'reviewed' if newlight of some sort or some reinterpretation of their take on shunning and disfellowshipping arrangement....

Review: 2018 "Be Courageous!" convention
by neat blue dog infriday and saturday were for the most part pretty light, not too culty or doctinal, could easily suck in the unsuspecting.
there were a couple of hypocritical lines that i took note of however.
at one point the speaker said, "if your boss fires everyone who disagrees with him but promotes everyone who agrees with him, you might be tempted to agree with him just to keep your job.

I suspect It is their charity status that is propping up the show..remove it and their house of cards will fail...

If their charity status and associated tax advantages were removed they'd really have a problem......

They are increasingly appealing to emotion
by cookiemaster inthey always have but lately, they've taken it to a whole new level.
the new convention video about the end, the many videos at conventions and meetings, the new songs, all highly emotionally manipulative.
and they're working.

They have nothing to say anymore. Moving further into this 21st century, prophecy based beliefs are unravelling...all they have left is emotion...and the molding of many to become emotionally dependent on something most are afraid of challenging...a society increasingly consisting of widows....clinging to the hope of the resurrection..Sad.

Dutch government look for possibility to revoke JW charity status (=tax breaks) after JW refuse independent investigation re. abuse
by Anders Andersen inwell, the title says it all.
the dutch government will look into the possibility to revoke the charity status of jw after they refused to cooperate in the child abuse scandal.. the government urged the jw to start an independent investigation into the jw child abuse issues, and after some stalling the jw flatout refused.
unfortunately the government can't really force them.. the chance that the charity status is actually revoked is very small as there appears to be no legal basis to do so, but right now the government and house of representatives are very annoyed with jw.. and in the meantime the da will continue their investigation based on the victims officially reporting abuse to the police..

Withdrawing community support in the congs
by purrpurr ini've noticed in the past 10 years that the social support that used to be available in the congs, a shoulder to cry on, elders to help with family/marriage issues these seem to have been purposely withdrawn.
counsel is even heard from the platform that the elders are not there to help people with their problems.. so first in the 80s-90s they take away the congregation get to getters and social events and now they seem to be going one step further in taking away the emotional support for people too.. this will take away an aspect that i'm sure was keeping alot of people in the borg, the community support.
if that's not there and its just about meetings and ministry how many will start to get their emotional support elsewhere?.

I noticed that in the years I was in, many widowed and widows, and others who had no family in the congregation suffered in silence. The support from just the listening ear so often needed was not there.
Of course, Elders themselves in common with many, have problems and issues and need support too, but that support could often come from mutual support of others. When I was in, and I was coming to terms with quite difficult situations, I found that immersing myself in helping and listening to others often served to help myself too.
In the thirty plus years I was in, I found that Elders, particularly ambitious ones, had little empathy or time for those who needed support. They failed to tend for all the flock, not just those who might be advantageous to their own ambition for recognition.
Such a shame.....
