  i love the book lists on amazon; i get lost in them for hours.

  recently someone asked me for book recommendations, and i thought it would be fun if we shared our lists of top ten books that helped us think our way out of the jw dogma.

  im putting aside the obvious ones, like crisis of conscience and apocalypse delayed.. heres my list, in the order i discovered them as best i can recall.. ginny.

  Have you read any Wendy kaminer?
  I have her latest and it's great!
  Called 'Sleeping with Extraterrestrials:
  The Rise of Irrationalism and Perils of Piety".
  
  She examines as eries of cultural issues in which emotionally and spiritually based impulses threaten rational and reasonable thought.
  (the notion that morality cannot exist outside a religious context)

  Here's a great quote form the book;

  "If the First Amendment didnt protect speech that many find offensive,we'd have relatively little need of it......The First AMendment protects your right to give offense,and requires that you learn to take it. That is a simple and fundamental principle of democracy,which is rarely polite."

  She also addresses junk science,cult of victimhood,etc... great read! Just wanted to share this with you,Tina

  well im going to be unpopular here.

  i am still in jw orginization, in fact i just went to a meeting tonight and even had the privlege of caring microphones.

  i'm being set up as an example in the congregation...and guess what else...i dont believe anything!!

  What may help you is getting answers and information to your questions. Knowledge is power. EMpower yourself with the facts about their wacky dogma and policies! The Watchtower Observer and Freeminds site are the most comprehensive for this.
  Having the truth about the truth will help you decide how to leave. There are also great experiences by those who have left,many have found some of the strategies useful......

  well, i finished my dinner a little while ago and whilst i was tidying up the kitchen, i noticed that i had received my 5/15/01 issue of the wt.

  alright, this is one of those what was your favourite questions:.

  when you were a witness (or even if youre still reluctantly attached like me), did you have a favourite kingdom melody (why couldnt they just be called hymns by the way)?.

  I thought they all pretty well sucked.
  They all sound like 1920's barber shop quartet music.or of that genre.........
  I remember folks trying to hit those high notes,and chills going down my spine lol.

  Was It Too Much For My Dub In The Pub?

  i'm feeling a little disappointed with my jw pal, the dub in the pub.. we were having a good conversation over a few beers, and i actually got him to admit that he couldn't see the connection between the parable about the fds and the 144,000 any more than i could.. yes, yes, yes!

  with all the confrontation/negativity on the board these last few weeks, maybe we all need to sit back and have a drink, or a cup of tea or coffee, if alcohol's not for you.. seriously, i'm not trying to pretend that i haven't gotten caught up in the negativity at times, or trivialize important issues/feelings, but things haven't been as fun, lately.

  i've noticed a change even in the short time i've been posting.

  i didn't start this topic to point fingers or to act like my opinion is somehow special, but wouldn't it be nice for all of us to see an increase in civility?.

  An update for y'all......

  having been an infrequent visitor at best over the past few weeks, thought i'd write and let you know how i'm doing.. first of all, let me say thank you to all of you who have written to make sure i'm ok.. i was hoping not to develop a pregnancy migraine, but i got it.

  i had it for almost a month with eden, and it's going on three weeks now.

  i have barely been able to keep up with work.

  Women are COWS!

  when a girl reaches the age of puberty or physical maturity, her.

  body has developed in the matter of sex more than in the mind.. young folks like to be together, first in groups, later in twos.. if they have not been instructed by their parents in regard to the.

  permitted, because the female is not in physical condition to breed.. the bull seems to understand this and keeps in his own place.

  Indisputable/physical facts

  in the bizarre world that exist within the watchtower society headquarters in brooklyn you can find all kinds of strange statements.

  particularly funny is the use of the expressions indisputable/physical facts.

  according to the watchtower from 1922, indisputable facts showed that jesus second presence began in 1874!

  Thirty Years a Watch Tower Slave

  perhaps the first widely distributed book written by a former witness about the watchtower society is, thirty years a watch tower slave by william j. schnell, baker book house, grand rapids, mi, 1956. its been out of print for several years, and very few libraries still have the book.

  schnell was born in 1905, and was part of the watchtower movement from 1921 to 1954. .

  in part, the foreword reads: by the lords grace i am a christian.
