  Nourishment for the Spirit

  my observation is that persons who 1) heal/adjust the most rapidly from their jw experience and 2) seem to have the most joy in life are those who read, read, read, in pursuit of what i call nourishment for the spirit.

  i've really enjoy the pithy aphorisms you use here, which suggests you've distilled some wisdom from somewhere.

  i'm going to ask your help in this thread.

  Hi Java,
  Excellent reasons on why ignorance is not bliss but can be emotional psychological and physical death.
  I'm always amazed at how people want another belief system handed to them. It's a personal journey that takes time ,effort,personal responsibility. I think some folks are simply intellectually lazy.
  How easy it is to lean on that crutch,how much work and sometimes pain it takes to put it aside and learn to re-use those 'legs again.

  Oh that golden calf? Some earrings wouldnt be a bad idea :D hugs,Tina whose journey led down another path other than the judeo-christian one.

  OOps forgot to mention how influenced I was by Richard Schlagel's The Vanquished Gods.
  It opened my mind to the dramatic shift of our concept of reality,using history science and biblical tenets.That the religious viewpoint has been rendered obsolete by scientific advances.(for me anyway) A great read in accepting the rational compelling evidence of the scientific worldview.Too many other works to name. And each was a stepping stone in my personal understanding of myself and the world.T

  Hi Jan,
  You're right there. It is much more complex than what I wrote. I merely wanted to bring up one factor.
  There are many interests that have to do with this anorectic ideal of women. Other than the diet supplement and products industry,health clubs,food manufacturers,(think sugar free,fat free sodium free etc etc) . If you could see the vast array of products that tie in with the 'thin industry'in food markets alone you'd be amazed! Then there is the beauty industry,cellulite reducing cremes,toners to slim one daown ad nauseum. Many many facets of commercialism make mega bucks from this.Fashion and teen magazines come to mind too. So the publishing industry makes money as well.Let alone all the diet books.

  I mentioned that obesity is an alarming health concern. I in no way promote overweight as a healthy alternative.
  Again here,there are many factors that contribute to obesity.The main one is a sedentary lifestyle.
  All the industries I mentioned above and more have created a mega industry in consumer goods in which the Madison Ideal leads the way. They all tie in together.

  Im not real quick to jump on the 'blame the mother' bandwagon.
  It is true that mothers who instill esteem worth and acceptance do a better job in preventing future weight problems.

  Yes men have their own preferences on what is attractive to them. Again I dont promote the idea that obesity is beautiful. I'm talking of the women who aren't yet arent the madison Ave ideal of beauty.

  Great article! Thanks for posting it!
  We can thank the Madison Ave advertising wizards for promoting such facist beauty standards.
  This 'unrealistic body ideal' has given us one thing. ANd that's the destructive eating disorders that run rampant today by those so influenced by this. Young girls in particular get the message that it's not about 'you' and yoursef' but how you look.
  While there has been a growing obesity prob in the US(see CDC on this) this standard is not the healthy goal.
  I still think the 'Rubenesque' woman is the happy medium. Or as a Doc I worked with called these'zaftig' lol. And he considered that attractive as well. luv ya,T

  It Hurts - And all that Confusion!!

  for those who haven't seen this before: this applies to both cults and spiritually abusive systems.. the emotional pain of leaving a cult.

  the following is how former cult members and members of spiritually abusive systems described how they felt when they finally left their group.

  this may give you some insight into their pain and why there are no easy answers for them.. it hurts.

  I disagree with those articles. They seem to have been written by someone out to totally discredit and dismiss any ex religionists experiences. Basically a very BIASED and subjective opinion.
  Objectivity is quite possible and most probable given that after exiting most ex's are able to seperate the religion from the self due to recovery strategies and unbiased research.Tina

  Larc,it is a day of good feelings in general! I can walk down my street and get dragged into several BBQ's,,,people feel pretty generous and united at this time I think(maybe the beer flowing helps? lol) I too,love to see the fireworks. Several large displays go on,the one on Lake Michigan(Navy Pier) is exceptionally done! You and Zazu have a good one!.hugs,T
