hello bill, i have been thinking about one great method to make public awareness of child molestation and rape in the organization to explode like an 80 megaton hydrogen bomb!.
hollywood studios have an obsession with crime movies that chronicle the lives of the abused, and those like you, bill, who make a major difference in protecting them.. there are two kinds of movie themes, the documentary and "docu-drama.
" it's the second that is ordinarily used because it's based on real life.

dont let that comedy act fool you.

“Don’t let that comedy act fool you. Brother Estrada is a deep thinker.” Those words of Kenneth Dull, circuit overseer, tumbled around in my mind as I came up to the housing project. The persistent Gulf breeze made the clothes on the line swing almost horizontal and back down again. Nearly every clothes line in the Harlingen project had swinging clothes. Estrada came out quickly, gesturing with a small space between his thumb and index finger. The “un momentito” gesture. “Just a little while longer” in English. Ignacio “Nacho” Estrada was dressed impeccably in what looked to be a tailor made suit, but was not. Perfectly groomed, with long black wavy hair and a pencil thin mustache, he had the look of a Mexican movie star.
In more than “un momentito” his wife and two year old daughter came out, dressed in matching leopard skin patterned jump suits. Nacho carried a collapsed stroller. Sister Estrada was an Anglo, one of the Bell girls. The Bells were one of many Anglo Witness families who relocated to the Rio Grande Valley in the 60’s to serve where the need was great. Most returned to their “up north” origins after a year or two, such was the difficulty of adjusting economically, if not culturally to this land stolen in the Mexican-American War. Other families stayed and adjusted.
My thought was that once the Estradas settled in to my Volkswagen bug for the 120 mile trip to Alice, Texas, “Nacho” and I could work out a smooth transition between our assigned symposium talks for the upcoming circuit assembly. I thought wrong.
“Nacho” burst into song. He sang an entire Dean Martin album and then another. He wasn’t mimicking. He was Dean. Every voice inflection, every hand gesture, every raised eyebrow. He would direct a line or two to his wife, a couple more lines to his daughter and then the most inappropriate words to me: “Your love made it well worth waiting for someone like you!” It was hard to dislike Nacho Estrada.
I did learn a few things about Nacho. Like me, he was Regular Pioneer. His wife was not. He worked part-time for a Jewish clothier, who paid him $1.70 an hour, .10 above minimum wage in 1968. He wanted to be a Congregation Overseer. He had moved to Harlingen because he was not taken seriously in Weslaco. He incorporated Bible characters into his one liners in a way that made them seem like real people, no better or worse than us. He was quick to puncture any “airs” you might put on, but in a gentle, non-malicious way.
I learned a few months later that the Estradas had moved from Harlingen.
I just wonder if he was ever taken seriously.

part 1: breaking ground with crisis of conscience .
while attending the district convention at the cow palace in san francisco, the jw man who had brought me into the religion, told me that ray franz had resigned from the governing body, and several were disfellowshipped from bethel in a major cleaning out of apostates.
i was shocked, and asked why ray franz would resign.
Masterji:
It's amazing how many people think they know Ray simply by reading his books. They speak of candor, credibility, honesty etc.
For example, the position papers advanced by governing body members Schroeder, Suiter and Klein advocating a change in the understood beginning of "this generation" to the year 1957 was most revealing.
It showed the 1914 date not to be absolute to individual GB members as it was required to be for individual JW's.

Amazing,
The “order now” icon on Amazon.com was a point of no return for me. After getting a feel for the tone of the book by reading a free chapter on the internet, it was a baby step to at least see if it was available at Amazon. As a noted cheapskate, the fact that it was reasonably priced . . . . .
It took me 36 hours, sandwiched around two work shifts to finish CofC. I recall my wife saying she hated it whenever I got a book as I shut everyone else out till I finished it.
Much as we used to speak of men like Moses, David, Jeremiah as having credibility because of not glossing over their errors, foibles and rebellions, Ray obviously gave a true account.
Reading CofC reinforced the feelings I already had. The material is NOT why I am not a JW today.
Thank you, Amazing, for sharing.

the co visiting a congregation in madison wisconsin told them that 35% are inactive.
i wonder if this is the pattern with most other congregations.
that was about what it was in the last congregation i was in.
Target,
Are you sure he didn't say that 35% were irregular, not reporting one or more months of field service in the last six months? That would not be uncommon.
Inactivity means not reporting any field service time in six months. Over a third of the congregation? Unlikely.

someone among the top brass in brooklyn have had a rare moment of thought and come up with another adjustment in the endless line watchtower society new light.. some of you probably remember when they became tired of the expression: the society says, which of course identified to clearly who is really god in the lives of the witnesses, so they had to tell the witnesses to stop using that expression because it was extremely embarrassing.. this time it is another expression that shouldnt be used.
not at all of the magnitude of the example above but still sufficiently important to someone, probably in the gb.
i guess it took a couple of heated sessions in the gb to get this approved.
Thank you Norm for this research.
The initial KM School I attended Albert Schroeder discussed handling judicial cases. He specifically used the phrase "err on the side of mercy". That concept added sort of a warm feeling about judicial action.
A few years later, in a subsequent "school", the instructor made it a point to strike down the "err on the side of mercy" philosophy. He said that was simply incorrect. We were not to "err" at all, simply administer justice.

for me, the word was "loving".. great "loving" kindness.. great undeserved "loving" kindness!.
disfellowshipping is a "loving" provision.. when the wtbts want their accolytes to swallow another bitter pill, another restriction, another rebuke, another demand on time, the buzz word is "loving".. the "loving" word, is, to the average jw, the same as the mccabe nod is to the salesman.
the mccabe nod is used by salesman all the time to get the prospective customer to agree to something that he doesn't care for too much.
Englishman:
I cringed when a PT chairman used the adjective "timely" to describe any talk on any subject by any speaker.
or when a fellow preacher used the phrase "companion journal" to describe the "Watchtower" sidekick "Awake!"

this is a joke for all you texan posters.
i laughed so hard i was crying after reading this.
hopefully, this isn't an oldie that you have all heard before.. notes from an inexperienced chili taster named frank, who was visiting texas from boston.
Thanks, AMarie:
Chili is a serious subject for me.
The jalapeno is a wonderful, tasty fruit. Some call it a pepper, although it has very little heat.
The habanero is the pepper of choice for many afficionados. Pick a handle of nice red ones. They add good color and heat.
Without giving my recipe totally away, I've gone through several garlic presses in the last few years.
