I've heard of this happening, especially where the former group of elders are hard core. I think, like always, it depends on who you know.

How do I tell my JW mother...
by TresHappy inwe buried my grandmother this weekend.
my jw mom took care of her for 2 years, and did a wonderful job.
my grandmother had the best care from her daughter, which is the best kind.

It is indeed a soap opera. Everyone knew of my grandfather's indiscretions, so that wouldn't be a surprise. The only thing I can think of that would be a surprise would be how I found her, which is truly a miracle. And the fact everyone in the family knows but her. My aunt is just elated to have a new sister, although she's younger than her oldest daughter.
I think I am going to let my aunt tell her. I really can't see my mother being overwhelmed or being warm and fuzzy. She's just not that type. I would like for my Mom to meet her, but that's her call.

Who watched the American Idol sing-off tonight on Fox?
by morrisamb in.
i thought reuben was superb on all 3 of his songs; clay sang the best only on his 3rd song.
just because clay sang a great final few notes on his 3rd song, doesn't mean he deserves to be american idol.. my best friend and i hope reuben wins, but believe clay will get more votes.. earlier today i heard bleach-blond frenchie who got booted off for her topless photos sing on a morning show...she would have blown the competition out of the water!

I watched it last night, I sure got sucked into the American Idol hole again. Clay was tops last night in his range. He is an amazing talent. I definitely think he will edge Ruben. Ruben is amazing though. He's got that suave voice.
This year has had an amazing group of talent when compared to last year's crop of Idol wanna-bes.
Frenchie is doing "Rent" on Broadway. She's doing that song "Seasons of Love." (The only song I know from the play). Frenchie would have won if she hadn't shown her boobs on some website.

We buried my grandmother this weekend. My JW mom took care of her for 2 years, and did a wonderful job. My grandmother had the best care from her daughter, which is the best kind. About three years ago nosey me found a post on a genealogy web site that caught my eye. Well to make a long story short, my late grandfather was quite the rounder, and I found his daughter he had by a woman while married to my grandmother. We were forced to do DNA testing because everyone who may have known about it was dead, and I wasn't going to ask my grandmother. My aunt was tested with this woman and it came back as 95 percent, which is a match in DNA sibship (same father, different mother). My aunt and my cousins have embraced this new relative, our new aunt, and it's been positive. My new aunt is a dear and wonderful lady who had been lied to all her life about her father. My JW father asked us not to tell mom while she was caring for her mother, due to the stress. Now that grandma's gone, I want to tell my mom about her 1/2 sister. I don't know if her sister will tell her. She tried to tell her this weekend but couldn't get alone with her. Part of me wants to take Mom out to dinner and tell her, however it may not be my place. Should I wait for her sister to tell her? Since I am the one who originally found the post, I feel sort of responsible. And it is my mother. I need some opinions.

Most Annoying "Kingdom song?"
by doodle-v inwhat's a kingdom song you can remember singing that gives you the creeps now?
mine is "move ahead" i think that was the title, anyway it has so much rhetoric... but the tune is so darn catchy.... darn.... in my opinion, those songs are the perfect example of mind control.
move ahead.. move ahead ... blah blah blah blah blah .

Yes, that's the way it is. Which is why I never would have married at the KH. So I opted for a beach in Jamaica...

Evil slaving at District Conventions.
by avishai inanyone plan on clowning these fools at their conventions?
i don't necessarily mean shouting, holding placards, etc.
but i do mean putting evidence of their covering up child molesting around.

I went to a convention years ago where someone hired a airplane to fly over the stadium with some phrase about 1975. I didn't think much of it at the time, but that's a cool, but expensive way to get across your message.

Facial Hair
by nonjwalltheway inwhy aren't jw's supposed to have facial hair unless it is a nicely trimmed mustache?
if jw's are supposed to follow the way of jesus why can't they have facial hair.
i know there is no biblical protocall denying people the option to grow beards.

I never understood this unwritten but enforced rule about wearing beards. I remember a young man that was studying in our congregation. Nice guy, sort of weird, but a nice guy. He wore a beard to the meetings. The person who he was studying with was pressuring him to shave his beard. I remember thinking "what's the big deal" - needless to say, that guy soon stopped studying because of many things, but that was one of them. Good for him.
