I think my congregation was a bit above average. Mostly friendly, a few crazies, and elders who I have to admit were very good speakers. I really don't think too much of it now, other than throwing my garbage in their parking lot now and then...

Rate your congreagation
by Hamas inaylestone congreagation leicester ; what a place that was.. we were so starved for laughter we used to laugh at the slightest thing; you remember how witnesses are deprived of true humour so they must negotiate with anything they hear slightly funny ?
that was what it was like for us at aylestone.. it was like sitting in a morgue.
we lost a great elder;- fantastic laugh.

My favorites are when he was with his brothers. I always liked "ABC" and "Ben" - then the song that went "She's Out of My Life." I can't even stand to watch him now. Too weird...

Duran Duran videos - they were the best! From singing "Rio" on the high seas or belting out "Hungry Like the Wolf" in Sri Lanka. Anyone remember the video "Girls on Film?" What fun those days were, I just can't get into videos these days, unless they are on CMT - am I getting too old or what?

Do You Think That Jehovah's Witnesses Are Basically Good People?
by minimus inthere's a lot of jw bashing here.
we've all been affected by negative things because of the organization.
but do you think that as a group, jehovah's witnesses are bad, or do you think that most of the witnesses that you know are inherently good people??

Defining good in general terms: JW's can be very good people in the sense they pay their taxes, generally don't commit crimes (but if they do it will be covered up by the elders), and "love" their fellow men. But in the sense of that good - OK. But they can be the cruelest people also. Shunning is a horrible way to demonstrate "Christian love" and that's just the beginning. When I tell JW's I run into I am not one anymore, their mouths drop to the floor, they mumble something about apostasy and then scurry away. Can't they deal with the fact that there are people who just don't believe their load of you know what anymore?

Big Tex got tagged and is now a WTBTS statistic!
by cruzanheart ini told him we needed a peephole in our front door.
he'd just gotten out of bed when the doorbell rang and without thinking, he answered it.
there stood the wife of the congregation secretary, who is a regular pioneer, and some other woman he didn't know.

Anytime the door is knocked on a Saturday morning, my husband always says, "theyre here", jokingly knowing that they probably won't ever stop by. They have only a few more days until the memorial and I haven't seen them yet (unless they are the ones leaving pizza coupons at my front door).
BTW, cruzanheart and Big Tex, I have reached the 500 post mark!

Male or Female?????
by manon ini'm often confused as to what gender a poster might be with aliases such as 007xjw it tough for me to tell sometimes.
i also understand the need for some to maintain themselves unrevealed.
manon=female: even though the word man is in my alias

Ever have a day...
by joannadandy inmy whole week has been very stressful...i am working on my resume and essay to get a placement for student teaching...because numbers of student teachers are so high, and numbers of teachers willing to accept us are so low, well pressure is on to impress.
we've been lectured for the last two months that if you don't strike on the formula they want, your gone.
if you have one grammatical error, you're gone.

This whole week has been horrible. As a matter of fact, this whole semester at my job has been horrible. One of our coworkers died 2 weeks ago here AT WORK. It was very sad, she was just in her 50's. I wouldn't give anyone the satisfaction of dying up here at work. I would go across the street to McDonald's.

Brothers/Sisters you disliked
by JH in.
even if everybody calls themselves brothers and sisers in the congregation, were there some in your congregation that you just couldn't stand?.

There were many people I liked and only disliked a few. The one I remember is a pioneer named Linda. She went our congregation in the Dallas area. She thought she knew everything about the Bible. She was the poster child for "Pioneer Sister." I studied with her for a while. I remember her berating people who went to college and if you married outside the "truth" - you might as well have been shot at dawn. I remember her reducing me to tears a few times after service, the women in the car group would gang up on me. It was pure cultdom at its worst. She had so many of us sisters in knots that they finally attempted to talk to her. I heard then she told the elders she knew more than they did. I hear from the grapevine she's still pioneering and has become "really nice." Don't know what that means!

Your favorite Watchtower oddities
by logansrun inyou know, there are some things phrased that are just so, so....watchtoweresque.
what are some things you see that remind you of some wt foibles?
one thing that always cracks me up is when an article or book (or post) uses too many exclamation points.

When the "been a JW a long time" people started using initials for everything. R.V. - I thought they were talking about a Winnebago. Wish I would have heard someone use B.S. for Bible Study, which really was a Book Study. B.S. seems so appropriate for the latter.

Yes mouthy, treshappy is booked for a room there. I hope to have Darlene as a roommate there. I will make my airplane reservations later this year. I wanted to have a room. Didn't want to be without one like in 1994...remember when you and Pam let me bunk with you guys? It was great fun - hard to believe that's been almost 9 years ago. That fellow from NY that always hangs out with you, will he be there?
