  Einstein's view of God/Atheism was not the point of my post. I hoped you might notice his attitude about humility and how a great mind like himself, recognizes the limits of our intellectual understanding.

  Human have not even began to imitate the myriad ingenious ways the animal kingdom has invented to kill and torture its rivals and even its kith and kin.

  Huh? (That's a really bad sentence.) and oh yeah, I heard about the kangaroos running concentration camps down under.

  Humans have the intelligence and foresight to overrule the tyranny of our genes and work for the greater good.

  It's worth considering, as some do in the area of quantum physics, that the soul and the personality are two different things. The brain, the thinking organ of the body, dies and so with it likely the personailty (that ego that must be right at all costs - lol), but the essence of being - the energy, life force or perhaps the soul if that's how you think, -- where that goes, if anywhere, is not understood. So possibilities, that we're likely not evolved enough to comprehend, exist. I reject religion. I can accept I don't know and I can still marvel at the beauty of this life.

  Some devout atheists (similiar to many religious folk) cling blindly to the evidence of their senses, to the facts at hand, to ‘reasonableness’. These people refuse to believe the fantastic because it does not fit with their view of the world. Not much different IMO to religious folk that think they alone know the Truth. And they will fight to the end to assert they alone are right.

  Yawn.

  Dogma is dogma.

  Nice thread. There are some smart people on this forum, so let me apologize in advance of my post... :)

  I believe animals have souls. I've never believed in or followed any religion.

  The "present tense" does not just lay outside the realm of science. Humans - esp in the west - struggle to Be in the present. Our 'consciousness' mostly consists of thoughts of the past or the future. Rarely can people suspend judgement and live in the moment. Animals, on the other hand, have mastered this. Some say this is because they are lesser beings...

  Some thoughts (take 'em or leave 'em) from a (non-religious) book "Guardians of Spirit"

  "We have forgotten what rocks, plants and animals still know. We have forgotten how to be -- to be still, to be ourselves, to be where life is: Here and Now."

  they live a lie and live in a self-imposed bubble judging 'worldlys' as less than.

  fine if they want to be in a cult and judge fellow cult members but if they are going to step outside that cult and live among worldlys than they need need to follow the moral compass of society and be held to those standards.
