Thanks, Saint: Have heard of Codependency but was not sure what it was. I'm so independent I never thought I would be considered a codependent. Will check it out.

emotional blackmail is a form of controlling one person to gets ones needs met.
a blackmailer may use direct or indirect threats against us to get what they want regardless of our opinions or feelings.
the one great threat is: if you dont behave the way i want you to, i will make your life miserable.

does anyone remember how the society joined the "disco sucks" movement of the late 70's?
i remember reading in the mags about how disco was created by homos and that it has an "immoral beat" (whatever that means!
) it was also mentioned not to go see "saturday night fever" because someone gets a blowjob in the movie.. in our congregation, we had a special meeting about disco because people would request disco songs at our once-a-month jw skating party at the local skating rink.
Hey, JIM TX: HOORAY...A DANCER. I was teaching Disco in Ft. Lauderdale area in 1976. You probably had a contract program. Hated selling those contract programs. That's why I quit. It was such a cut-throat sales business to get customers. You're from around Austin, TX. I was living in Dallas and competed in Dallas Push dancing City and State championships in 1986-1988. Traveled a great deal to Houston to dance in Push/Whip dance championships. Are you familiar with the dance? I think there's a Whip or Swing club in Austin. It's a Texas-style Swing done mainly to Blues music. I went to the Dallas D.A.N.C.E. Championships last year as a trophy presenter; not a competitor. They aren't doing the Push or Whip too much anymore. Now it's West Coast Swing. It's okay but nothing beats the traditional sexy Push dance to a nice BBKing or Al Green song. Ah-h-h-h ye-s-s-s. If you like to dance, E-mail me. I LOVE TO TALK DANCE.

does anyone own a watch dog, paticularly a doberman pinscher?
some on this board know i love animals and i lost my bingo cat last year.
i really loved him to death but i have to admit that when it came to giving affection...forget it.
Chi: 3 lbs? That's a riot! I like Chihuahua's. I believe 3 lbs. qualifies for teacup size. Correct? Point well taken about loss of life, law suits, etc. Maverick is scarin the hell outta me.
Patriot/Maverick: You have got to be on a control trip of some kind. You're bad. The Dobie would probably be at a house that I would be showing for sale or having remodeled. Are you saying that as long as a stranger is in the house with me that I should have the Dobie on leash at all times? In the house? OR spend $5,000 for a K9 trained dog. Good God! Pah-l-e-e-e-e-z-e...aren't there some Dobies that are gentle enough so you don't have to worry about killing someone or winding up in jail? If there isn't and the breed is that aggressive, I'm not interested!
Plmkrzy: Can you get your brother to E-mail me please.

Thanks, Lady Lee. I'll see if I can find it. My husband was a physically and emotionally abusive husband, I divorced him in 1974. Since I'm still single 28 years later, you can tell the extent of the trauma. I had several emotionally abusive relationships after that (nothing physically abusive), got involved with the Witchtower, got out, and now very gun shy of all men and religions. I currently have an incompetent boss that seems to get a lot of enjoyment out of "clipping my wings" by exercising his muscles of authority. He thinks he has be over a barrel because of my age and salary and I can't afford to quit. So that's another situation.
Although the pressure of comformity is finally off from the Witchtower, I'm still quite alienated because of my past experiences. There definitely is something wrong on my end that needs straightened out as to why I keep getting involved in these situations. Can't afford a shrink so I'll have to figure it out on my own.

it was one year ago today, that i mailed my disassociation letter.
i had postponed my da'ng to spend months (many sleepless) gathering research to help "rescue" my jw friend of 26 years.
i called her finally on june 30. turns out, she could have cared less.
Thanks, everyone.
Europe: YEP...July 1. The day I entered "Jehovah's Witneses" on the Internet search button and learned the real truth, was two days before Mother's Day. I took Mom out for a beautiful Mother's Day dinner and apologized profusely for the last 11 that we missed. That Christmas, I bought her 11 Christmas presents and didn't put them out until the night before. The look? Priceless.

Excellent post Lady Lee. Pretty well puts it in a nutshell. Let's hope some current JW's reading this Board will mediate on this one. "Emotional Blackmail" by Susan Forward? Is this a book or mag article or what published in 1997? Would like to buy.
I've read books on cults and the techniques they use. The Watchtower (or many religions for that matter) is a perfect cult example, however, this post regarding Emotional Blackmail is very clear and to the point. If they don't see the Watchtower control techniques after this, then they need to pray to have their eyes opened! Re-e-e-ealy big!

After that, I was bound and determined I was going to spend my next birthday (the next day....July 1) a free-from-the-Watchtower person. I started posting here in October. And THANK YOU ALL for your help and support. I love you all!
I had a wonderful birthday by the way. Mom and I went out and celebrated and all the people at work got me gifts. It was great.
I AM SO HAPPY TO BE OUT..................(((([]))))

DISCO DOES NOT SUCK...I LOVE IT! And its back with a vengeance in South Florida.
I graduated high school in 1964 so that tells you where I was during the Disco days. On the dance floor. In fact, I was teaching it at a Fred Astaire dance studio at the time (wasn't a JW at the time, of course). So sorry that the rest of you who were in the Borg at the time didn't have the great time that I had. It's a great dance. (((())))
But now that you're out, try it....you'll like it. Take lessons somewhere. Of course, I'm assuming that it's popularity has returned in your area as it has in South Florida. Yes?

plans are to soon have shipments of nuclear waste to cross through many of our nation's cities to reach their dumpsite destinations.
i really don't care for the idea.
how do you feel about it?
I'm a little over 5 miles from the route in South Florida. Who cares. I'm trying to find a darn dog.

Thanks everyone so very much for all the advice. MY GAWD I'M SO CONFUSED.....Isn't there a happy medium between a 10" yipping wonder and a 25" go-for-the-juggler killer animal? I'm not in any hurry so I have plenty of time for more reseach, maybe even take in a few dog shows or visit a local breeder.
JWrobot and Plumkrzy: We've had quite a few cases of dog attacks here in South Fla recently with Rottweilers and Pit Bulls. They scare the crud out of me.
Bendrr: I really, really do not want a gun, Bendrr. I'd probably wind up shooting myself.
I have seen Dobies which are pitiful excuses for a doberman, just as I have seen Labradors which can kick some serious ass!
Maverick/Patriot: 135 lbs? OMG What are you feeding this dog? That's a BIG dog. It doesn't bother me that some Dobies aren't up to their uh-m-m-m shall we say fearless reputation. Hell, I don't want to kill anybody, I just want a dog with an intimidating enough appearance to make someone think twice about trying to harm me. I think any dog would get mighty upset if someone attacked their owner but a rapist isn't going to be concerned about a 6-lb barking toy wonder. What I want is something that is intimidating enough that would make them think twice about trying anything. I can't believe that anyone in their right mind would try anything with any kind of a Doberman standing six feet from them off leash. That's the reputation I'm looking for. Regular obedience training I can handle; attack training and $4,500 I can't handle. I'm perfectly happy with SIT, STAY, and COME and a house pet personality. I think any Dobie would show his teeth when necessary or have you had other experiences with some?
Its Just: Thanks for the research. The Dobie is a little shorter and obviously not as much hair. I don't particularly want a long haired dog, especially a LARGE long-haired dog. Large is bad enough in this tiny house.
Termite: Agreed. Good advice.
OUTLAW: What kind of a 90-lb dog? Your cat...yep I know about cats. They could care less about their owners..... just don't mess with them.
FARKEL: A parrot. I know, I know. A 90-lb killer parrot.
Sigh....a skunk. Maybe a skunk will work.
