Yes, I've been trying to educate myself on this religion.

Sorry, I may have misled you. By "spiritual match", I didn't mean to imply spiritual "compatibility", but rather a "spiritual challenge"/possibly battle to overcome what "controls" her.

I was happily married to a Filipina from the Philippines for many years. We had a great relationship. BUT, she had 6 sisters and 2 brothers. They outwardly practiced Catholicism, YET simultaneously/quite furtively practiced their indigenous "native" "religion" which involved "chants", "curses", "mind control" etc. She was inherently less into it and watched herself carefully around me. And, must have sensed my innocent unsophisticated love for God could help her and that's why she was so devoted to me. I had the "pleasure" of hearing her sing happily in the last days of her life. Guess she was given to know that she was going to Heaven. The last day of her life, she was so calm and natural and totally ok with where she was "going." She was a very loving soul, never heard her say a bad word about any person in all those years we were together. And, somehow she left me with all her love, which I now have a need to give to others.

Heck, you're doing a great job of explaining things. I'm eternally grateful.

Misogynistic, geez! She has so many problems. Minority, female, poverty, 99% chance of history of abuse, possibly emotional-mental issues, and now caught up in this kind of situation.

I'm sure there are many layers to her. But, to me she comes across as a nice person.

The location the JW set up in is "extremely" coincidental then. There are other beach parks, and even within this beach park there are many places to set up such a public display.

Here's another coincidence. She is black. One of the JW gentleman is black. They both have the same first name which can be used as either masculine or feminine. I assume her total innocence, but it's a significant amount of coincidence.

With all her problems, it just makes me want to help her even more.

I never wanted to pry into how long she has been a Witness and/or how deep her beliefs are.

The only thing I ever said to her was that "I checked out your religion online and it looks like a lot of people feel it involves mind control". "And, I hope you can get out of it.."

She didn't say anything.

She is extremely bright, so she must know at some level.

Thanks for your analysis-advice !

It was sobering. It reminded me that in life where obfuscation, confusion, too much uncertainty etc. are involved there is often a nefarious element present.

Interesting though, looks like I've met my spiritual match.

p.s. May I ask, at the risk of sounding paranoid. Do you think this was a set-up? I mean I've been living here 1 year and no JW ever set up a public contact-recruitment type thing anywhere around there. I mean they were in the EXACT spot where this girl and I discussed a critical step in the forming of a relationship. And, to be setting it up at this time too.

I'm in a Fla coastal city. It has miles n miles of beachfront with many attached parks.

What are the odds of this happening.

Today in the VERY SPOT where this JW girl and I stood on the sidewalk at the end of our second day together discussing whether we had a future, today JW set up a brochure stand with 2 chairs with 2 JW guys, one of whom fortunately is a younger black gentleman.

Only she, GOD, and myself knew about this spot.

I had a nice long discussion with them about she and I. They are really patient and do listen.

One JW gentleman said she's keeping her distance cause she doesn't want me getting between her and Jehovah.

And I agree that I would never want to get between GOD and her.

The other gentleman said to start studying the bible with them and tell her about it and it may draw her back to me.

She loves Jehovah, and I love God.

IF they are one and the same thing, this might just have a happy ending.

What say you/folks?

Thank you for that clear and comprehensive explanation. It's very much appreciated.

May I ask you 2 questions?

(1) What, if any, is the consequence or significance of being deemed "spiritually weak"?

(2) What's the deal with a JW member who is unmarried and "disassociates" herself?

I ask because early on this gal I'm interested in told me that she wrote/mailed an important letter constituting a very big day in her life. At the time I had a "gut feeling" that it involved her association with her JW religion. Unfortunately, I chose not to be too nosey and ask about it.

How Many JWs Really Believe Everything They Are Told?

i think that 80% of jws do not truly believe in what they are taught .

the vast majority stay in because of family, friends, ignorance and a lack of caring about any of the facts regarding the "truth".

many people are lazy.

THANK YOU FOR THAT GREAT ADVICE/WARNING.

I'll make it a priority this week before getting involved any further.

You know, thinking ahead, I'ld settle for just becoming a platonic friend to help her out financially and emotionally.

It looks like that may not even be possible from her side though. So, very sad to me. I may have to wind up just praying for her only.

With all the kindness from you folks on this forum and with a lot of prayers by me, maybe this will all work out somehow in a way that greatly benefits her. I hope so. "It's not over till it's over."

You know when we would go shopping or eat in a restaurant I would sometimes give her the money and let her pay while I (eg). went to the rest room. Even though she was "poor as a rat", I trusted her completely and she was meticulous to immediately give me the change.

I find her to be such an interesting personality.

The only problem was that once I expressed some feelings for her she changed. I mean it was weird, did she think I had just been hanging out with for the heck of it. I mean she knew obviously. I guess she was just programmed to react to a verbal manifestation. I should have kept my "mouth shut."

Thank you very much for that insight into JW thinking.

I visited a Kingdom Hall. Although very affable, it seemed to me that the few folks there, doing yard work, were a little bit "out of focus".

I don't know if it was mental/emotional/spiritual on their part, or just my imagination. At least that's the way it seemed to me. I was only there about 10 minutes. It is extremely subtle, almost imperceptible.

So, I won't be going back there or ever getting involved in JW. Or, any church denomination for that matter. I saw it as a 12 year old in the Protestant-Episcopal church denomination.

I like your caveat-warning.

p.s. Since a JW is admonished not to even date a non JW. How has a JW spouse navigated things in such a way as to end up with a non JW spouse?

Just made a long post to you, but lost it, so just briefly this time.

Re JW elder (43 yrs JW). Yes, you corroborated my perception, enough said, they may read this forum.

She likely "acting as siren..trying to get disfellowshipped..mental health issues". Yes, probably some or all of these. Plus her JW beliefs not to assoc w/non JW. Plus it's a lot of pressure for her to deal with some guy who is interested in her.

"Reading too much into this relationship". Anything is possible. She is a JW, may have mental health issues (prior to and/or exacerbated by JW). But, based on my experience, she likes me ALOT. It's all just too much for her to handle and she needs time and space (which I'm patiently giving her).

She has a lot of problems. Nathan says this is a pathetic "romance". And, I can see how one can say that. But, it is what it is. What really bothers me is that she is so poor (food, clothing, and now shelter who knows?)

"Stalking". No, not at all. (but who knows, if she has mental health issues). Not considering what we went through. I'm actually being quite patient.

She only gave one brief sign of a mental health issue/or could have just been stress, before I even spoke to her. But, once we met she was ok. Although once or twice I asked her something that she couldn't remember the answer to and seemed perplexed that she couldn't remember. I've read somewhere online that JW have been known to use "regression" techniques w/a member. She's actually a sweet girl though.

I want to say more, but got to go out now.
