I never understood the purpose behind that whole Sister must have their head covered Then when there were no brothers there to lead for field service, I would see people like my mother put a paper towel or napkin on top of her head. Now mind you my mother is a very obese white woman with an afro.

Head Coverings for Women
by Diogenesister inwatchtower's ignorance around the historical background to many biblical directives has had a very negative effect on the lives of witnesses.. for instance paul said women should cover their heads because in corinth prostitutes walked the streets plying for business with their heads uncovered.
hence head coverings were never a symbol of headship but a directive very specific to that period, as was the blood directive!!.
watchtower leaders have been lawyers, businessmen, civil servants and door-to-door book salesmen, never, ever historians or biblical scholars.

An old memory...

then one “ friend” asked me for a favor.

resolute Bandicoot,
I asked him if this ever bothered him, and he told me no. Yet, on the other hand, there were things he told me about that made me wonder if it did play a part. As a teen, he became very sexually active and also developed a drug addiction. Eventually, he did go into rehab when his best friend died from a heroin OD. It was his grandmother who helped him with that, and his parents still don't know about that even to this day. He's been clean for 35 years, although there were a couple of times that he did come close to slipping. It was before we had left the Watchtower, and his JW parents and brother were being total pricks to him.

Money! How much did you "Contribute" To The WTB@TS When You Were A Member
by The Bethelite ini was in full time service for six years including bethel.
once i got out of bethel, i figured i had already given them six of the best years of my life (ages 18-24) working as a slave/drone in their factory, so i rationalized that i had given them enough... so over the next 27 years i would say maybe $200 bucks is it.
i think their whole "voluntary contributions" idea is biting them in the ass, because over all jehovah's witnesses are a cheap group people with a few exceptions.

When the Watchtower change from charging fo the literature to asking for a donation was when I stopped giving any money. What had happened was what I did before was the very first time I picked up anything at the literature department I paid for it out of my own pocket. Then afterward I would take the money I got from the householder from the publications to buy more literature.
But after they changed it from charging a set amount to the donation for the world wide work. There was an elder actually had the nerve to tell me that I need to pay for it out of my own pocket and then also give any money I got from the householder as well. This pissed me off, but I didn't say a word, just ok.
After that, I went in and ordered every single past bound volume and any other publication the Watchtower had at the time. I did not pay for it. I did that because I was giving the Watchtower a What For. Also at that time, I decided to stop asking for any kind of donation, so the Watchtower was actually losing money at my end.

WT Teaching That You Can't Leave Behind
by jhine inafter posting on another thread it became apparent to me that it can be difficult for some ex jws to totally shake off all wt teaching , even after leaving the org.
do you still feel guilty going into a church for a wedding or a funeral .
can you bring yourself to celebrate birthdays or christmas .

Do you still feel guilty going into a church for a wedding or a funeral?
No, I actually started attending a church, well several even before I sent in my DA letter. I was looking for answers.
Can you bring yourself to celebrate birthdays or Christmas?
Yes, but for a long time, I was in conflict over the holidays. To tell you the truth it took me 18 years before I was totally free of any conflict regarding anything involving religion or the bible.
Would you hesitate to accept a blood transfusion if you needed one?
I had one, it was either that or not being around to raise my two young sons, and leaving my husband behind.
Does the indoctrination that you received still work to put a barrier between you and the rest of society in the way it was intended to when you were "in"?
Do indoctrination but a barrier between me and the rest of society, no, but dealing with selfish pricks has.

Would You Stop Buying A Product Because of Political Differences?
by minimus inwould you stop buying nike products because you didn’t like their politics?
conversely, would you give business to a company because you liked their political stand on a matter?
would you stop watching an entertainer because you disagree with their political perspectives?

Political views no, but them being a total @$$ towards me would, and yes there are a few businesses on my cr@p list.

If You Could Live In Any Era or Decade What Would It Be?
by minimus ini kind of like the 50’s and early 60’s because of the innocence and “happy days” outlook by that generation.
it seems most people were pretty innocent and real.. would you rather be living in a different era or is this century working for you?
?.

I have a different viewpoint of that time period from listening from my parents. My mom grew up in the north (Wisconsin), and my dad grew up in the south (Texas and Oklahoma). My mom has mostly pretty good memories of her time growing up, my parents were both in the military when they met and were married in 1966.
My dad's memories from that time period were not good memories. His dad had major issues with alcoholism, and because of that, his family was homeless on several occasions. There was a lot of bad things that were going on in the past. The issue with memories of the past is that people will remember the happy and good memories while forgetting the bad and rough times.
If I could pick any Era or Decade to live it, it would be now. With the aid of the internet, it exposes things that are going on in religion to name one.

Involved(ish) with a JW Man.
by BNG-713 ini know there are several posts about witnesses and non-witnesses in regards to relationships.
i couldn’t find anything specifically that spoke to me, so i would love some third-party advice and thoughts.. i have never been someone to pursue a stranger from the internet.
earlier this year, i became friends with someone on a video game.

As we get closer to my visit, the nervousness and second thoughts are creeping in for both of us. A couple weeks ago he did have a bit Of an internal conflict. He felt as though pursuing this may hurt his God, or compromise his relationship down the line with his religion.
I will finally be meeting him, and I’m terrified.
The closer we get to the date, the further apart I feel like we are growing.
Listen to what your mind and body is telling you; nervousness, second thoughts, terrified. There is something not right, and you can feel it. I can tell you if a JW still believes in their religion it will lead to some major problems down the road for you. I can't even tell you the number of times someone has posted on this site about getting involved with a JW, only to be faced with total misery later on. JWs don't have a problem lying to those who are non-JWs, they even have a word for it and it is called Theocratic Warfare. Here is a link to more information about that subject if your interested. WTBTS - You can run, but you can't hide
by The Fall Guy ini apologise if this has been discussed while i was on vacation, but i've just become aware of it.. is the wtbts preparing to avoid losing a fortune, by declaring bankruptcy?.
the cult's scumbags may be about to initiate their own "great tribulation.

Fall Guy, Someone was saying why the Watchtower can't declare bankruptcy. The reason being they have assets, such as kingdom halls, assembly halls, and so on.

On A Scale of 1 to 10
by The Bethelite inwith 10 being the highest, how..... 1.honest are you.
2.humble are you.
4. happy are you.
-
Tameria2001
I'm honest, but if I say 10 I would be lying. A total of 10 on honesty would not be a very likable person.
Wife to her husband, "Do these jeans make my butt look big?"
Husband to his wife, "No dear, those jeans don't make your butt look big,"
Now if the husband was being totally honest to his wife he would say, "No dear your jeans don't make your butt look big, your butt makes your butt look big." lol
