1975 and 1981?
by Steel inis it true that in 1975 the watchtower falsely predicted the end of the world and a great number of the membership quit and just a few years later they turned disassociation into disfellowshipping?

To be more precise, they believe in the end of the system of things. Meaning that God won't destroy the earth, but will kill off every single human that is not a baptized Jehovah's Witness, or a small child of a baptized JW. Now there are also JWs who will be killed off as well, those whose hearts are not in the right condition and doing 100 percent for Jehovah's organization. Afterward, it will be left up to the survivors to clean up the whole mess.

The smug arrogance of "having the truth".
by stuckinarut2 inhas anyone noticed that witnesses (from the top down) seem to have a quiet form of smug arrogance toward all non witnesses?.
perhaps it comes from being told how "special and unique" they are but they end up looking down on all normal members of the community because they are not witnesses.. so any form of "love" they show those in the territory is also limited as long as they accept the message...otherwise they are viewed contemptuously as "worldly" and therefore of little value...after all, they will be destroyed right?.

I remember when I was a child, my mother told me you are a very lucky little girl because she found the only true religion, even though my life at home was pure hell. That was something I never forgot as I was growing up. Even after I was baptized I would look around and see people who were and were not JWs and it baffled me back then. One thing that would bother me about what she said was how anyone who was not a JW would not survive Armageddon, while everyone who was a JW would, with one small exception, err should I say huge exception. If you were not doing enough for the organization you too would not survive the big day. It always bothered me when I heard those I was working with, out in field service talk about how they would move into this house or that house after the people who lived there were destroyed. This felt like a ten-ton boulder weighing me down. When I finally learned the truth about the "truth", it was like that huge weight had been lifted.

smiddy3, Yes I'm still here, sorry about not replying sooner. The information that everyone has given has really helped a lot. When it comes to talking to my husband about things he is not familiar with, it takes a bit longer, because he deals with ADD. Thank you very much for the information.

There was a three month period where I had attended my last meeting, to the time I was forced to send in my DA letter. Or at least felt like I had to send one in. I did not know of any support groups, so I didn't have any other input from other former witnesses on what I should have done or not done. But to narrow it down even further, at the time of my research I came across information about the Watchtower and I was literally seeing red. I was so pissed off that I threw away everything and anything that the Watchtower had ever printed up. My husband asked me what was wrong and if I was angry at him. When I told him I was not angry at him but rather those lying dogs, he was just relieved that I was not mad at him. lol

Does anyone know of any good links that really goes into the actual facts?

Welcome to the group. For your own peace of mind, I would suggest research. There is a lot of information out there. I remember when I was leaving I was in turmoil, about quite a few things involving the religion. Also don't hesitate to ask questions, if you have any. I don't know what your plans are on the night they are going to make the announcement, but I would suggest missing that meeting.

Why I lost my religion
by Sour Grapes ini was a jw for over 50 years and recently just stopped cold turkey going to the meetings.
years of sitting at the meetings with the boredom, the gloom and doom, repetition of doctrine, the gloom and doom, the fake love, the gloom and doom, the end being so close, do more - do more, just got to be too much for me to stomach.
i stopped praying to god and no longer thank god for the food before i eat.
