That doesn't hold water for those who were brought in as children or born into the cult.

The Watchtower Society want basic human rights but ''somehow'' deny disfellowshipped members theirs
by RULES & REGULATIONS injehovah’s witnesses imprisoned for their faith—by location.
locations where jehovah’s witnesses are put in prison, sometimes under harsh conditions, for practicing their faith and exercising basic human rights.. .
others are imprisoned for their conscientious objection to military service.. watchtower society: please don't lecture anyone on the denial of basic human rights when you take away the rights of disfellowshipped family members associating with their family and friends!.

I'm just saying that the Watchtower cries foul when it comes to their human rights, while at the same time denying others theirs.

What are human rights?
Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status. We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination. These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible.
Part of human rights is religion, but the Watchtower is denying it's former members this. Yes, you are free to choose to stay or go, but if you go you will be shunned by everyone you care about. People have a choice on who they want to associate with, BUT the Watchtower will penalize their current members if that person wants to have contact with their friend or relative who left.

I don't know if this is my best memory, but it is my favorite. When my husband and I were married, I asked a certain elder if he would like to perform the marriage vows. I asked him because he was the main reason why I had met my husband to be. He agreed. But the problem he turned a simple wedding ceremony into a very long talk. Now before you say they all do that, yes, they do, but this elder went way longer than your average JW wedding talk by the one who performs it.
For any who know me, always knows that I believe in the sweet art of revenge. One year and nine months later I was able to exact my revenge on that elder for being extremely long-winded when performing my wedding. After getting married I had moved to where my husband was living, and it came up that we were getting a new kingdom hall. I knew this brother was going to be there so I called him up and asked if he would like to stay at my home. I lived about five minutes away from the construction site. He accepted, and he brought his wife, who also happened to be a friend of mine. She wanted to catch up on old times, and also the "wonderful opportunity" of working on a building project.
Now back to my wedding, the whole thing was recorded, so I asked the elder if he would like to watch my wedding video, and he accepted. After watching the whole video he turned to his wife and asked her if he is always that long-winded when giving his talks. She said, "Yes you do dear." Then she informed him that was why their children, they had 4, were always so fidgety. He ended up apologizing to his wife about that. I don't know if he changed the way he gave his talks after that, but to see him get a small taste of what he put others through was quite funny.

Have Your Relationships Been Affected Because You Were A Jehovah’s Witness?
by minimus ini’m just curious if you think your past life either adversely or positively affected your relationships?.

Even though he was raised as a JW, my husband never believed in a word of it. I did not know this at the time we got together. He basically went with the flow to make his mother happy. He waited for me to finally wake up, and we officially left it together.
My husband has no problems making friends, but when he was attending meetings he had what you would call quite a few "worldly" friends, and he didn't care what the JWs said about the matter. He still has a few friends he had since high school.
Myself, on the other hand, I'm what you would call a recluse. I was never one to make friends in or out of the JWs. I grew up in a very abusive home, and my parents moved around a lot, 63 times to be exact. 63 different locations from the time I was born until the time I got married to my husband. I did attempt to make a few friends but found they all had alterative motives, one even did her damndest to destroy my marriage. After that, I stopped even trying.

Hiding in attics won't do them any good. The amount of technology that is out there today that the authorities would use would have them spotted very quickly. It's not like the days of Anne Frank.

Staying a Jehovah's Witness
by lriddle80 inwhy the shunning if someone leaves?
why are they working so hard to keep everyone in?
is it money?
-
Tameria2001
If the Watchtower ever reversed its decision to stop all shunning, and all of a sudden my JW relatives tried to talk to me, I would tell them all to go straight to hell and stay the F out of my life.

The bad part of that programming it takes years to get it all cleared out of one's mind. It took me 18 years before I was totally free.
