Hortensia: We don't let them take the computer upstairs but the phone can access all the same things that the computer can. Our laptop is sitting on the kitchen table so they can't get in too much trouble there. She has a lot of clubs and before and after school stuff she needs her phone for so cold turkey isn't really an option. That's why I needed her to figure it out for herself how dangerous it is.

Sorry I usually don't get on the computer when at home.
I don’t know how reasonable it is to take the computer and phone away completely but she has been limited. She’s grounded off of it for personal use until she finishes her report but after just a few hours of research I think the point has sunk in sufficiently enough. I see her double checking to make sure all the windows are locked before she heads off to bed. Thankfully we let her online pretty slowly with the stipulation that we always have all her passwords and receive all her history by email. That’s how we figured this out quickly.
Villagegirl: Our thoughts exactly. The only thing that put my mind at ease was the length of time the account had been active. If anyone had been taken a fake profile would send off warning bells to the FBI so if anything had happened in the past the connection would have been made. When checking through his site he was definitely grooming these poor young girls for his own perversion. Lots of 14 and 15 year olds commenting but his friends list was hidden. He probably got all of them over to the private chat. We talked with the FBI as well and the standard response was the same. We can’t do anything unless something bad happens.
Skeeter1: I think the thing that freaked her out the most was when she was looking up info on herself. Within 10 minutes with only a name, Phone # and $4 she had her own address, DOB, school, photo of her 5 years ago from the paper, picture of our house and a list of close friends and thier adresses, sisters names and ages and the schools they attend. She's now saying "I don't think I want a Facebook account"

When my wife and I left we always looked back at that time and a scripture would come to mind. It’s been a while but it had something to do with a veil being over the eyes of unbelievers and the JW’s always attributed that to themselves and the things they taught. We looked back and saw how opposite that really was and that we had JW imposed horse blinders on. It’s funny now.

We called and there wasn't much they could do. We deactivated her Facebook and had her phone # changed since he convinced her to install some app and chat through it on her phone. She gave him her #.

This set off major warning bells in my wife and I so we started to investigate. Although all very innocent she was obviously being played by a cyber stalker. With not much digging we figured out that he was actually in India and all the pics and info on his site are false. We were just going to ground her but instead she doesn’t get her phone back until she writes a report. I’m posting it up here so that you fine folks can add or delete to make this lesson stick. She is being all teen about it.

I was in service when I was about 10 with my mom when a supposed miracle happened. We were in a bad neighborhood with all high chain link fences. As we started to open the chain link gate my mom noticed the Beware of Dog sign and pulled me back from the open gate. The Rottweiler came running around the corner barking his head off. The gate closed before the dog could get at us. Of course it was the spring hinge on the gate that closed it. 2 weeks after hearing this story re-told quite a few times it became a strong wind sent by Jehovah. I’d just laugh but my Mom would just nod her head and say ”It was Jehovah’s protection at work”. Such BS. I heard the same story many times from the platform and always wondered if this was the miracle they were referring to or if it was someone else’s tall tale.
