Yep, pretty much always. Most of the thoughts I had and things I wanted to do were the opposite to how we were supposed to think and want to do.
Plus I'm an elder's daughter. A decent, caring, elder, but straight-laced and obedient all the same.
if muslim is supposed to be the religion of peace, jehovah's witnesses has to be the religion of guilt..

Is that Bowes Road?!!
is your life over?
are you totally screwed up?
are you able to move on?
I'm screwed up socially, that's for sure. I have moved on as much as I can, but not as much as I would like, as my immediate family is still very much in, and I refuse to lose them. It does make me angry sometimes, but it's a pointless anger as I can do nothing about it.
I am a lot less scared about 'spooky' things, now I don't really believe in demons!
I regret not waking up to TTATT much earlier, but again, I can't change that.

if you allow your child to have a part in the nativity play, it's apostacy.
even if the child just stands there, dressed as a an animal.
with no lines.. even if you've been inactive for several months.. talk about extremes and emotional blackmail!.
Thank you, jtd. It makes it a tiny bit less painful, knowing there are others who have been there, or are there still.
All the best

Phizzy, I completely agree with your last two posts!

I apologise for spelling 'apostasy' incorrectly. My spelling and grammar are both usually top-level. It was about 3am for me and I hadn't yet managed to sleep, as I was too upset. I just chose one of the two options that came up on my phone. Obviously it was the wrong one.
I am pretty sure that spelling one word incorrectly is not going to make any difference to how the elders view me. Many of them are unable to spell relatively simple words correctly, judging by the boards at the KH.
The argument for a child of a JW (inactive or not) participating in a nativity play being an act of apostasy is that the story originated with false religion. Therefore you are touching the unclean thing, and not being no part of the world.
It's so flaming difficult to get out of that religion! Especially if you're a born-in, and got baptized at 15, and most of your family are in, with one of them being a super-conscientious elder. At that age, in that situation, you don't know there's a constitution to read...
Comatose, I'm sorry you went through something similar. Have you posted on here what happened? I'd be interested to find out.

i would like to have your opinions on what i should do about a situation please.. i have recently discovered that a 'brother' in the congregation (which i no longer attend) is a child molester.
i've seen documentation from his psychiatrist dated a few years ago, stating that he doesn't feel that this person is likely to offend again.
the 'brother' has said to the elders at some point that he has it under control but cannot be 100% sure it won't happen again.
Hi Miss.Fit. Welcome!
Unfortunately, I wasn't in a position to speak to the fiancee and the wedding went ahead. I did make some enquiries via a family member who is a police officer, but no joy.
I really hope that if his wife is aware of his leanings, she will ensure he is never, ever alone with her daughter.
I don't know what else I can do - I haven't been to a meeting for nearly a year, and I am not particular friends with her. I am (or was, until about a month ago) friends with his sister, but she doesn't know that I know about him.
The paperwork must have been filed away now, as I did look for it again, but it was nowhere to be found.
IIRC, the information I read said he had done something with a younger person when he was a teenager, and had been having therapy since without incident. He is now in his 30s.
LisaRose, That doesn't surprise me at all. It's so twisted, you can't say anything bad about your fellow brother or sister, but they can do whatever they want as long as they are really sorry afterwards
