He makes excellent points, wold any of us have changed our views on seeing their signs at the DC. NO!! We would have felt this was the apostates we have just been warned about,. I think about how my still JW family would react, they would feel justified in believing in the GB "new lights'. We were prepared to see this 'persecution". Stay calm make very quiet small remarks to our family, if I scream about the wrong teachings a barrier goes up immediately. The best we dan do is plant one tiny seed at a time and we may have a chance to water it and watch it grow.

Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"
by BackseatDevil ini was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.
i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.
it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

Backseatdevil I just fininshed reading your experiences, very good but difficult for a mother of a gay EX-JW to read. I did read it and my heart goes out to you for your experiences at Bethel, I understand a little more why my nephews refuse to speak about their experiences. May you go on to have a happy life.

Found this gem in a coffee table book from 1947
by fresh prince of ohio incontext was a discussion of anti-war groups.
the caption for the pic described the jws as "pathetic" (probably reflecting the victorious postwar mood).
outlaw could probably have some fun incorporating this pic into his comments!

Memories. My grandfather had that Watchtower bag. He died in 1947 but his bags were still around with the family in the 50's.

They will lie to you to get you talk to them. An CO and Elder lied directly to me when I told them my son was not emtionally up to talking to them. They assured me one question and 5 minutes, was many intruding questions for hours. It was in my sons home, I will never let them cross a door into my home. They are not to be trusted.

Have The Witnesses Changed All That Much In The Last Few Years?
by minimus inwhen i was in it, especially as a young person, it was rules oriented but not like it is now.
to me, the religion is a lot more fanatical than ever before....what do you think?
is it the same religion even as it was 20 years ago?.

I've been around the JWs in the 50's, 60s, 70's, and 80's. inactive since 90s. The changes are dramatic since my childhood. The doctrines being taught, the rules to live by, and the love among one another has changed. in the 50's and 60's we were encouraged to associate with one another, the rules were there but were more of a conscience matter, but I saw the tightening of following rules from late 60's lightened some in 70's and have become out of control since the 80s. I now no longer recognize any of the teachings and see very little love and concern even among family members still JWs. I do pick up a fear of breaking rules in my still JW family.

Bethel Layoffs: Know anyone (especially long-timers) who were laid off?
by Black Man inand what are they doing now?.

2 of my nephews left as they saw the layoff coming. They both left before being asked to leave. One started college, graduated, and now has his dream job. He has left JWs but wont talk much about Bethel. The second was invited back to Bethel, was invited to leave this second time because of dfing. (thrown out suddenly). Tried to be reinstated, but hasn't been successful may try one more time. He has now started to school and planning to go on with life.
