i started going to a church that my co-worker goes to about a month ago and i really like it.
they actually meet in a movie theater, serve bagels and cream cheese, coffee, and krispy kreme doughnuts.
i wear jeans and flip flops if i want, they play rock music, and so opposite of any kh experience i've ever had.
I started going to a church that my co-worker goes to about a month ago and I really like it. It's very anti-religion. They actually meet in a movie theater, serve bagels and cream cheese, coffee, and Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I wear jeans and flip flops if I want, they play rock music, and so opposite of any KH experience I've ever had. Everyone is very down to earth and my kids actually look forward to going, me too! It's actually VERY refreshing.
Last week, he was talking about how important it is to make and keep friends outside of the church. He said that when a church/religion only encourages you to associate with other church members, the church will start to implode. My husband turned to me and said, "wow, you'd never hear that at the KH".
that was what my husbands mom told him after she found out that we were no longer going to meetings.
.
Fortunately we don't live near them so it's no big deal. We really don't have anything in common with them (his whole family) and the past few visits have been awkward for us anyway. We love them but we are so different now. We have moved on and our life does not revolve around them anymore. All of my kids are out of the cult and that's what really matters to me.
went to a very progressive church today, they actually meet at a movie theater but really enjoyed it.
they have a rock band that plays christian music but they also played some yes and james taylor.
very laid back, everyone there in shorts or jeans and tee shirt.

Very laid back, everyone there in shorts or jeans and tee shirt. The pastor wore jeans and a tee shirt. The sermon was actually really nice without being preachy. Served bagels, donuts and coffee. I felt totally at home which surprised me cause I was raised in the borg.

the more a person does in jw busy work, the weaker spirit they must actually have.
many times, they are simply overcompensating or trying to fill.
a void in themselves.
Awesome post...2 thumbs up!
many people that post or lurk here at jwn are too young to remember some of the huge international conventions jws held many years ago, but probably have seen impressive photos such as of the 1958 eight-day convention held simultaneously at new yorks yankee stadium and polo grounds.
especially remarkable was the tremendous newspaper coverage of that assembly and other special conventions held in the 1940s and 50s in the united states.
yesterday, when i downloaded somebodys old scrapbook full of long-ago newspaper articles, http://www.archive.org/details/watchtowernewsscrapbook,reporting on jehovahs witnesses so-called international conventions, i couldnt help but remember what i wrote regarding extraordinary newspaper convention coverage in my www.freeminds.org article, how jehovahs witnesses watchtower religion impacted my family history, part 3 and thought id share the information here on jwn for those who are not familiar with how such wonderful coverage came about.
I shouldn't be surprised but I am. I grew up in the cult and never knew about this. I think of ALL the dastardly deeds the WTS has done, this pisses me off the most. Everything else they did, I chalked up to a bunch of misguided old men, but this shows their true nature.
why my dad was better than jehovah[if !supportemptyparas] [endif].
just to test you, of course.. [if !supportemptyparas] [endif].
my dad was not that way, he was much better than jehovah.. [if !supportemptyparas] [endif].
Great post, Randy!
first of all, is there a way to keep this topic available?.
some would like to see authoritarian repressive watchtower gone, others want reform among jws now!
... "don't curse the darkness light a candle" - a chinese proverb?.
For those still in the organization, reform on the surface probably looks like a good idea. That is what intrigued me at first. I ran across a website of JW's wanting reform. So if it helps JW's that are still in to start thinking for themselves it would be a good thing. Personally, I think it needs to be dissolved but that's just me.
