  hello to all on this board.

  thanks so much for creating it and fostering the spirit of welcoming and honesty here.

  i have been "lurking" here for a while now and should really introduce myself.

  Welcome to the board. The "elders are appointed by holy spirit" is what got my husband to start doubting it's the truth. One of his friends had been appointed as a MS and then quickly an elder and there was not way holy spirit had anything to do with it.

  Husband stumped his pioneer mother the other day.

  my mother-in-law was hounding my husband the other day about our spiritual standing.

  conversation led to "the light gets brighter".

  he said if that is the case then maybe the light gets brighter for other religions as well.

  hello all jwn .

  so glad to have that over with- it was surreal to walk in the kh after two years...it is just a building to me now (not "jehovah's house").

  i must say that now i'm on the outside...what a boring sad building- the people were not joyful and friendly (just older and fatter than i remember)- i got the nervous stares and shaky "hi" when i looked at all of them and said hello.. my mom was sitting all by herself in the front row of the hall...i went and sat by her side.

  I, too am so sorry for your loss. Jesus said that you will know his people by the love they show...hmmm! When my dad died (he was disassociated at the time of his death) and I was still a witless, nobody in my congregation said anything to me. That was the beginning of the end for me.

  I also downloaded from Lulu, have read the 1st chapter so far. It brings back so many childhood memories. Enjoying it so far.

  i'm still a semi member of the kh but not at all active and have major doubts when i started reading all kinds of opposing literature.

  talked to elders about this and also my father but my father but he still believes it's the "truth".

  anyways jist of this story is i gave my father a copy of "crisis of conscience".

  Maybe something was mentioned in his final talk-the public talk is from an outline so not much room to deviate but the final talk (if they still do that) is usually created by the CO to touch on congregational issues.

  i have read "the noticer", "the travelers gift", and am now reading "the final summit".

  anyone read any of these books?

  they are light reading but really makes you stop and think about things..

  i just did last week.

  it really helped me and i highly recommend it for any x-jw or human being, period.

  i am curious what others thought of this from the x-jw perspective..

  I read "The Four Agreements" a long time ago and loved it. It's a little different but when you get to the end of each chapter it makes a lot of sense. I also have "The Mastery of Love" which is really good too.

  watching a movie on the hallmark channel called "the shunning" about an amish girl shunned by her family and community.

  so sad that any religion would subject anyone to that.

  They worked my neighborhood today and last Saturday-saw them as I was leaving for work both times. Apparently they must have tried to contact people face to face last weekend to personally deliver the invite, one was in my door when I got home from work today.
