Are we pretending we live in a Disney movie?

we may wish to believe we are living in a happily ever after world--a kind of disney movie.as jw's we believed jehovah controlled the outcome.

all we had to do was follow our orders and all would end well...for us.not anymore i don't.i am convinced life brings with it the constant possibility of death and chaos simply because we live in a violent and ever-changing universe.stars explode, volcanos erupt, tsunamis wipe out islands, parasites infect drinking water, mosquitos bring disease, and microscopic creatures are everywhere outside and inside of us using us for their food!we fool ourselves if we actually expect life to be free of violence--even us against our own selves.2 out of every 100 people on earth are psychopaths.

As JW's we believed Jehovah controlled the outcome. All we had to do was follow our orders and all would end well...for us.
Not anymore I don't.

I am convinced Life brings with it the constant possibility of death and chaos simply because we live in a violent and ever-changing Universe.

Stars explode, volcanos erupt, Tsunamis wipe out islands, parasites infect drinking water, mosquitos bring disease, and microscopic creatures are everywhere outside and INSIDE of us using us for their food!

WE FOOL OURSELVES if we actually EXPECT life to be free of violence--even us against our own selves.

2 out of every 100 people on Earth are Psychopaths. A fact. Deal with it or ignore it--it remains with us.

Mental health statistics demonstrate that babies born to mothers who've taken certain drugs and lived certain lifestyles are HIGHLY susceptible to defects including chaotic brain development.
That's not a BLAME, btw. It is merely an isolated fact on a long list. Deal with it or ignore it--it remains with us.

America has written into law ownership of firearms and the result is about 12 million guns are sold each year. Deal with it or ignore it--it remains with us.

50% of children come from divorced parents making it statistically more likely for those kids to have health problems, social problems, mental health problems, and incarceration.
Deal with it or ignore it--it remains with us.

What are you saying, Terry?

We are like soldiers on a great battlefield: life itself is war.
Soldiers must EXPECT violence and tragedy and DEFEND against the violence and extinction by cooperating intelligently day after day after day after day.

Realistically examine the idea of life as a Disney movie or latter-day Bible story.
Our problem REALLY IS GUNS-- but not guns alone.
Both sides of political issues need to be opening their eyes on this.

To wit:

Can we stop divorce? No, you idiot.
Can we stop alcohol and drug abuse by parents? No, you idiot.
Can we stop the sale of guns? No, you idiot.

We CAN counsel and aid charitably with humanitarian intentions.

Can we end child poverty and give free mental health assistance to all Americans? YES!
Can we provide higher minimum wages? YES!
Can we provide free education to our kids? YES!

BUT NOT by spending Billions on never-ending senseless WARS!
We all know that.
BUT OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS WON'T STOP wasting tax money
on weapons.

What little we CAN DO....goes undone.

We are left with what we Do do: rant ineffectively.
I plead guilty as charged.

Are you not conscious when your genetics tell you to eat, to sleep, to love, to protect, to care for..... this is genetics in action, conscious and very deliberate in its guidance for survival.

Let me have another go at my intention if you'll allow me.

Yes, we are made of materials of a physical nature with built-in limits and we cannot over-ride them absolutely without much travail.
However--I am talking about the "Ghost in the Machine" aspect of choosing and determining what preferences gain sway.

There is something of a horizon line of human knowledge as far as AWARENESS is concerned. No matter how fast we approach it--it recedes. It is an imaginary line.
Free Will, I think, is as real as the horizon and just as imaginary.

The use of the word "Popular" is aberrant, IMHO.
Every JW in the world is required to own publications published by headquarters.
Ah, but those were the good old bad old days when WT was a publisher.
Now, I'd modify that word. It is more a purveyor.

How may "Popular" books are out of print, discarded, expunged and considered improper the same way JW books become--it must be said--because the contents are embarrassing to those claiming "truth" as the boilerplate of their mission?

This obsolescence is not planned!
It is intrinsic due to the nature of its origin: imaginary communication to an invisible being.

Below is a Washington Post article on 1st Amendment Rights

and how Jehovah's Witnesses are champions of our Freedoms.

What follows is MY RESPONSE to that article.

Jehovah's Witness legal tactics in ‘Defending First Amendment Rights’

was predicated upon a fraudulent premise of authority.

Beginning in 1929, Watchtower President J.F.Rutherford unilaterally changed the historically accepted interpretation of Romans 13: 1,2.

This verse had, for over 2,000 years, been taken at face value; to wit: obedience to the government was incumbent upon Christians because it was God who had appointed them in their authority. In the Watchtower magazine, Judge Rutherford reversed the interpretation summarily! ("The Higher Powers", Watch Tower, June 1929, pages 163-169, 179-185)

The official history of Jehovah's Witnesses, JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES IN THE DIVINE PURPOSE, says about this change:

" There were many false doctrines and practices that had not yet been cleaned out of the organization. Not all of them were recognized at once, but gradually over the years that followed it became evident to what extent the brothers had been in Babylonish captivity at that time. With considerable misunderstanding they had accepted earthly political governments as the "superior authorities" that God had ordained according to Romans 13: 1; and as a result, the Witnesses had been held in fear of man, particularly the civil rulers ."

(Chapter 14, Par. 1) As you can see, even in 1959, Jehovah's Witnesses were still convinced the governmental and civil authorities were not to be submitted to, nor feared.

Why bother with this old set of facts?

During the Nazi era, Rutherford instructed German Bible Students to ignore Hitler's curtailment of public distribution of printed materials.

From the year 1922, the German branch of the Bible Students (called Earnest Bible Students) had been banned for their door-to-door peddling and preaching in the streets. 5,000 arrests were made. By 1932, charges were still pending in 2,300 cases.

Rutherford insisted German Witnesses hold a high profile and engage in banned public preaching campaigns leading to their arrest. Watchtower articles practically encouraged martyrdom.

In the November 1, 1933, issue, printed a month later in German, Rutherford wrote:

“Some will say: ‘If in the face of so much persecution and opposition we continue to go out amongst the people and publicly tell these truths, then I fear we may be killed.’

That is true, and probably many of the faithful will be killed because they continue to faithfully proclaim the truth which they have learned in the secret place of the Most High god.” (Watchtower, November 1, 1933. p. 328)

Additionally, in his Historical Dictionary of Jehovah's Witnesses, page 73, by George D. Chryssides states:

"Of the 25,000 Witnesses and Earnest Bible Students in Germany, 13,400 spent at least some time serving prison sentences. According to Gestapo files, more than half recanted."

13,400 German Witnesses spent time in prisons, often for years. 2,000 died. 270 were executed. (History of the Holocaust: A Handbook and Dictionary, pp. 218, 239, 266, 448, by Abraham J. Edelheit and Hershel Edelheit (Boulder, CO: Westview Press, 1994)

Why did this happen? Because the President of the Watchtower had reversed the traditional Christian understanding of Romans 13: 1,2 and substituted his own authority in its place.

I'll make one further point in support of this thesis

On November 23, 1954, in Scotland, Douglas Walsh was selected to be a test case regarding conscripted Jehovah's Witnesses. In the course of this trial, Vice-president Frederick Franz, and attorney Hayden C. Covington testified under oath. Within the questioning and testimony, a definitive statement was made, to wit: Jehovah's Witnesses are required, upon penalty of disfellowship (excommunication), to accept, believe, and carry out as though true, teachings which they personally do not conscientiously accept as legitimate, even if those teachings are later changed, nullifying the original 'truth'. I would argue the actions of Jehovah's Witnesses against their own interests, and the interests of their local community, as well as nationally, were coerced by fear of excommunication in extremis, or at least insidiously coaxed into their beliefs through loyalty and disinformation.

What is my interest in all of this?

I served time in Federal prison from 1967-69 as a 'neutral' Jehovah's Witness as a result of a conviction for violation of the Universal Military Training and Service Act.

I was privately counseled by my congregation leaders not to accept alternative civilian service. I was further counseled not to reveal I had been influenced in any way by other than my own conscience. This same deliberately invisible influence was carried out as coordinated policy nationwide.

During the Vietnam war, 5,000 draft-age men turned in their draft cards rather than be conscripted. These were protests. 200,000 men were accused by the Federal Government of being Draft Offenders. 25,000 were indicted. Out of the 25,000, only 8,750 were convicted. Out of the 8,750 who were convicted, only 4,000 were imprisoned. Most of these, with some exceptions, were young men--Jehovah's Witnesses, like myself, who surrendered our loyalty to an organization and its leaders claiming to speak on behalf of the only true God.

Five years before my appearance before a draft board, the Watchtower Society had quietly and unceremoniously changed the official interpretation of Romans 13: 1,2 rather quietly, flip-flopping back to the traditional plain reading Christendom had held for two thousand years!

In fact, JW texts I was operating from had not been updated to include this change. I found out the hard way!

The Watchtower headquarters would not provide me with a membership card nor a letter attesting to my ministerial status. I later found out this was only provided in special cases where a "special Pioneer" was involved who spent 100 to 150 hours monthly knocking doors.

I had the legal right to serve alternate service working in a hospital--had it not been for the private counsel of my JW elders in strict accord with their covert (by this time) policies on Christian neutrality.

This policy too, like the previous Romans 13: 1, 2 policy, reversed many years later. Apparently, the malleable nature of Watchtower ‘truth’ repudiates its value as the divine mind channeled by an Almighty.

First Amendment champions? I think not!

This religion is fraudulent in premise and has a historical track record of trampling on human rights.

Conscious choice, to me, carries with it aware grasp of pragmatic decision-making as opposed to instinctive emotional reactions. (I'm attracted to brunettes, for example).

I don't think I've ever been consciously "motivated" by DNA genetics per se.
I take your point, however.|

The urge, the instinct for sex is not a choice in humans any greater or lesser than animals. It can be moderated through force of will and indoctrinations, of course. Especially if you manage to sleep without a pillow between your knees :)

What we WANT is mysterious.

What’s with Pastor Russell and Miracle Wheat ?

i have researched pastor russell and miracle wheat , has any one found out some interesting information?

it seems he sold the wheat at a premium and promised 5 x yield ?

he denies selling - as he did not know , but he is a snake oil salesman.

The famous PYRAMID tombstone for Pastor Russell was designed by the same Brother Bohnet who conducted the funeral. It is Bohnet who offered to donate the famous wheat to the Watch Tower.

In 1905 a Watchtower booklet called "Features of the Plan of God" is written by J. A. Bohnet.

Bohnet's 1910 letter to the Russell in the Watchtower:

MIRACLE WHEAT AND MIRACLE RYE

Two grains of this wheat were given to the Editor, who, in turn, handed them to a brother in the Truth, who reported that the two grains produced 1,312, which, planted, produced five pounds -- one grain having fifty stools of well-developed stalks or straws. The brother planted the miracle wheat alongside of some ordinary wheat, and reports that the miracle wheat heads are from three to five inches long and from three to five grains to the mesh, whereas with the common wheat the heads are from two to three inches in length.

Another brother obtained some of the miracle wheat and, out of the first crop, presented the Editor a peck of the same. This was entrusted to another brother, a farmer, who has just handed the Editor $100 proceeds therefrom, with the following report: --

As you remember, I secured also a peck of the miracle wheat from a brother in the Truth as a donation to yourself (because he first heard of the miracle wheat through THE WATCH TOWER).

Brother Kuesthardt advertised the wheat in his paper, and the money sent you is the result of the sales at $1 per pound.

The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of New York, located at 25 Columbia Heights in Brooklyn, New York was incorporated in 1909 in the State of New York as a Private Company, by Charles Taze Russell and several of his followers.
Previously they incorporated as the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society under the laws of Pennsylvania as a Nonprofit corporation under the date of December 15, 1884.

The United States Investment Co. Ltd. was incorporated June 24, 1896, in Pittsburg, PA.

From the records in Pittsburg:

"'Article 1. Names of Subscribers: John A. Bohnet, Ernest C. Henninges, Chas. T. Russell.

"'Amount Subscribed by Each: Bohnet $5.00; Henninges $5.00; Russell $990.00.

"'Article 3. For purpose of buying and selling real estate, patent rights, stocks, bonds, and other securities, merchandise, building homes, etc.

"'Article 4. Name of Association is U.S. Investment Co., Ltd.

"'Article 6. Officers--… C. T. Russell, Manager.'
Russell needed two "straw men" to make up the required number of three for incorporation. One would assume he would choose two men that he could trust. Note the name John A. Bohnet and the date of 1896.

(Note: the 3rd man in the above document ended up marrying Rose Ball and moving her to Australia before the famous divorce trial in which Maria Russell claimed her husband had been intimate with the young woman.)
