My grandfather said something to me one day that stuck with me.
I didn't understand it very well--I did remember it.
He told me this:
"Society is a water balloon. If left to itself it has uniformity. It has symmetry. It has resilience.
But squeeze it and a corresponding bulge occurs. Any pressure on one point affects all the rest of it."
As the years have passed I have often called to mind his analogy.
It is difficult to see how big the rest of the balloon is growing when you're in the part being squeezed.

I once listened to a discussion among newspaper editors talking about the early morning meetings with staff in which--in the office--all events are filtered before any are published.
The Editor decides what IS and ISN'T "important."
That struck me at the time.
"Oh!" Why was I surprised?
I think I know why.
I suddenly realized billions of events occur every single day and each and every one of those is important locally and individually. It is the POV of writers and publishers as to what is newsworthy, what the "meaning" is, and significance is attributed in much the manner of a Star Chamber judicial gathering.
The reader--final link in the chain--takes the result as a "given." It simply IS.

For every one hundred thousand people in the U.S. the current murder rate is 5.3 but 30 years ago? 8.5.
Poverty:
7% of Americans live in poverty today compared to 12% 30 years ago.
Pollution:
21 million tons of particulate matter and 4 million tons of sulfer dioxide.
30 years ago we emitted 35 million tons of particulate matter and 20 million tons of sulfer dioxide.

In 2017 there were 12 ongoing wars. 60 Autocracies.
10% of the world in extreme poverty and 10 thousand nuclear weapons.
But, 30 years ago, there were 23 wars, 85 autocracies, 37% of the world in extreme poverty, and 60,780 nuclear weapons.

4. In the year 1770, the average lifespan was 29 years! Today the average is 71.
5. In the year 1820, fewer than 1 in 10 people could read or write. Today, 8 out of 10 are literate.
6. In 1820, 1.5% lived in a Democracy. Today, more than half are free to vote.
7. Since 1990, 2.6 Billion people have access to clean water. That's 91% of the world.
Earthquake Facts:
The largest earthquake recorded was 58 years ago, 9.5 magnitude in Chile.
Earthquakes have always been common at the rate of half a million detectable each and every year. Yes, 500,000 each and every year.
100,000 can be felt but only about 100 cause damage.
Southern California has 10K quakes annually.
The deadliest recorded earthquake in history was in the year 1550 in China.
So, as far as the FREQUENCY of Earthquakes predicting "The End"? Bullshit.

Famines and Food shortages?
90% of the world is now safe from poverty.
Only naturally occurring disasters bring temporary emergencies with the world at large sending food, clothing and medical care in response.
In 1966, the Watchtower began preaching OVERPOPULATION would definitely bring about worldwide starvation and signal Armageddon by 1975. I preached and taught it door to door.
Guess what? Total bullshit!
The Watchtower is a diabolical organization which suppresses Child Abuse statistics which hides the actual harm occurring inside the "safety" of the Kingdom Halls.
At the same time, the Watchtower is exaggerating the danger in "the World", which they insist is ending soon.
The true picture of this religion is that of manipulation and lies and ongoing distortion of reality. -

The first and last page are blank traditionally for inscriptions and notes.
The book was designed to allow old people (like me) to be able to read it without the aid of eyeglasses. I doubt any young person would bother. Those were different times and JW's were for all practical purposes a different religion back then. -

How to deal with struggling with the doctrines

im struggling with the fact that i agree with some of the doctrines (i,e, the stance on the trinity, there is no hell) but i disagree with a lot of things (i,e, men can't have beards, women have to wear skirts).

Life is analogous with freeway driving.
The Bible is like the Driver's handbook.
Being cautious, alert, courteous, and using common sense
will go a long way toward making your trip a safe one.
BUT...
arguing over the details with a passenger in the back seat can be
distracting, unpleasant, dangerous, and ultimately fatal.
The Watchtower is like a backseat driver continually prodding, demanding,
mind-changing, and irrepressibly insisting you simply follow their directions.
Your life is YOUR life.
There's no such thing as arriving safely at your destination because we all die eventually.
The moral of the story? Make your drive the most pleasant journey possible.
Choose your passengers with utmost care.
Don't be shy about pulling over and kicking annoying distractions out of your vehicle.

When I was 11 years old, I was sitting at my desk in homeroom class when the student on my left, Gregory, tapped me on my shoulder. He held a folded note in his hand and was gesturing for me to take it. He leaned toward my desk and whispered barely loud enough for me to hear, “Pass this note to Robbie.”
Robbie was the girl sitting on my right.I took the note, unfolded it and read it just as Gregory punched my arm.
A shout-whisper came along with the fist, “Don’t read it, you moron!”I sneakily picked up my pencil and scribbled one word of my own and passed the note to Robbie.
You see, I had a crush on Robbie and so did Gregory Bunn.
His note had read, “I really like you.” He signed it, “Greg”.I was more or less more interested in outcome; the end justifying the means.
His 4 word message was there in the note: “I. . . really . . .like . . .you.”
It was 100% transmitted.
Each of his words had been 25% of the total meaning.
I barely contributed an additional 20%.
I had added the word “don’t” making it read, “I really don’t like you.”Imagine the conversation which followed.
“Did you give her the note?”
“Yes.”
“Were all my words there?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“You’re welcome!”

It is Jehovah who is damaged and the “agents” get off without accountability.

The fact of the matter is clear. If the GB were FAITHFUL their predictions and interpretations would never err. If the GB were DISCREET they'd never cover up when caught out making False Prophecy. If the 'food' they dispense was "AT THE PROPER TIME" we have to ask how it is they end up publishing so many worthless prophetic fulfillments which remain empty and untimely? So, in view of this analysis, what should we recommend to a householder offered a publication from the Watchtower Organization? "DON'T READ IT, YOU MORON!"
