for those of you who used to be jws, or who are active, if the society was in charge of the earth, how many people do you think you would have seen stoned during your lifetimes?
i realize some elders can be zealous about their work, but if they'd actually had administrative authority to have kh members stoned to death, how many elders did you know who would have been zealous enough to really order them?.
did you know any elders who would have ordered stonings, even if the condemned people had been willing to repent?.

You go into a frenzy calling a fellow poster insane, prophesy her suicide, then with eyes flashing, foam dripping, and fangs snarling, you blame.......well I'm not sure exactly who, but I assume it was a general accusation against most of the atheists on the board--for not being concerned for that person's mental health and telling her to go get help . . . .
THEN, after expressing your outrage and concern for that poster, who you deem profoundly, mentally, ill, you ENCOURAGE HER TO HEAR VOICES?
And if it's the poster I think you're talking about......from what I've seen, YOU were the one who said the nastiest things to them and kept goading them. But you call down evil on others, who (will?) cause her to commit suicide?
I am so sad that *this* is the website that has such a plethora of good research to prove JW's are false. I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the older threads, and some of the new ones, but....this is really bizarre.
It's no better for you men - on geriatrics, we often would do the old gents a favor by pouring a kettle of warm water into the toilet before they would use it.....gravity isn't any friendlier to the gents!

I think this might have been just an unfortunate choice of thread title. It sort of sets people off right from the start. The information on life in India is interesting to consider as a factor, but I don't think most people are interested in hearing the rapists' "side".

I think it is an exagerration to say it has done everything init power to squelch science
I don't think it's an exaggeration. Religion has done more harm than good to the advancement of mankind and knowledge. In the past, they burned entire libraries, suppressed scientific research, persecuted those who tried to learn.
Today, they do it by politically fighting and outlawing research, such as stem cell research. (A whole 'nother topic, I know.)

Historically, religion has done everything in its power to squelch science. To man's detriment. And not much has changed from what I can see. Just the other day on here, an ultra-religious poster strongly held the opinion that doctors should not be diagnosing schizophrenia and should be telling schizophrenics that they are "normal".

There was an entire chapter dealing with the fact that school is more geared towards girls. In general, the "sit at a desk, listen to teacher, read a book, take a test" way of learning is not best for boys.
However, teaching children is not a task that men have traditionally wanted. Teachers are amongst the lowest paid professions. Perhaps there isn't enough money in it for men?
