Depends if they still have their power of critical thinking. A few in my congregation have and it leads to some very interesting discussions (and comments in the meetings).

Are JWs capable of a genuine discussion?
by stuckinarut2 ini was just pondering whether jws are capable of having a calm, in depth discussion about religious or faith topics?.
i have just finished listening to a great podcast by "dogma debate" (dan) episode 333. this fantastic, in-depth conversation between a theist and an atheist was a masterful example of how a dignified conversation can take place without it resorting to abruptness or even nastiness.. jws on the other hand seem incapable of having such discussion without ending up in the following ways:.
1)they get dogmatic and defensive if a differing view is presented.. 2)if the conversation doesn't go their way, they cut it short saying something like "well, we had better agree to disagree" or the like.. so why the arrogance?

Leaked 2018 Elders Training Video RE: Elders Reviewing Pionieers

especially for the first sister they talk about!.

@stuckinarut2
I thought that too but after having read the accompanying questions in the outline, it’s not! The only thing it states they did wrong was not be better prepared!!!
This can be checked if you look at the outline for this talk. It is number 9 and the questions for the two videos are on pages 2 and 3 (yes there are actually two videos. There appears a pause icon at the 9:34 mark) and here’s a link to the outline in PDF that accompanies this video:
https://jw.servehttp.com/en/kms18.php?is=kms18-E_09.pdf
it’s very judgmental but according to question 7 it would be “unloving” to let her continue as a pioneer. Unbelievable!

Were visits to the library an important part of your childhood?
by compound complex ingreetings, fellow bibliophiles:.
i remember how sad i was, as a little child, when our beloved carnegie library was razed (unsafe, structurally).
the same tragedy occurred when we moved to a new town and that similar architectural treasure was demolished to put up a new and gleaming building of steel and glass.

Yes indeed. The little library in our village was quite forward-thinking to as you could also rent music records and tapes (and later CDs), including language learning media. We also regularly used the library for school assignments and were allowed to study in there (as it was obviously much bigger than the in-house school one.)
As I come from a family of avid readers, the library has always been part of my life before the Internet age. Now I read everything on my iPad or Kindle. Still love the feel and smell of an old book though.

Is it 16?
by Jrjw inhi can anyone tell me if it's true the society says parents must take their child to meetings until they're 16 even if they don't want to?
my ex is being a pain about me not forcing my 12 year old to be a witness.
he doesn't know i'm becoming inactive at moment so i have to be careful how i word things to him.

I was brought up to believe I would die at Armageddon if I wasn’t baptised. I asked this question when I was 15 and that’s what my mum told me. She added that since I was old enough to ask that question I was already accountable before Jehovah. That summer I got baptised. Coincidence? I think not!

I would question Father’s Day as that is only a very recent celebration as far as I am aware (commerce cottoned on to it not existing and given the commercial success of Mother’s Day....) I don’t even remember it being a thing at school in the 70s and 80s, only Mother’s Day. It is celebrated there on 18th June. Here in Spain on 19th March.
My Dad is not a JW but my mum is and I always give my dad a card and a gift. I’ve never had any grief about it. My mum queried it as she is über JW whilst I’m a PIMO and I said it’s no more pagan than wedding anniversaries that JWs love so much.
According to The Telegraph in the UK: (link)
The idea originated in the USA and has been officially celebrated there on the third Sunday in June since 1966.
The exact origins of what we now know as Father’s Day are disputed, though we do know the movement for a day which celebrated fatherhood began roughly 100 years ago.

Anyone have a pdf to download of that document? That website is no longer up and running.
The WTS have this to say in their latest Watchtower so I think they are lying about having trademark protection:
April 2018 Watchtower Study Edition, Pages 30 & 31
As is clearly stated in those Terms, no one is permitted to “post artwork, electronic publications, trademarks, music, photos, videos, or articles from this website on the Internet...”
By securing copyright and trademark protection, we have a legal basis to prevent such misuse.

Is the name Jehovah`s Witnesses a misnomer ?
by smiddy3 ini ask this because from what i read on this board lately is that they jw`s seem to be very reluctant to engage in conversation with anybody nowadays and are only interested in placing literature at carts.. and if anyone brings up questions in their d2d work that challenge them ( like the arc ) they will promptly excuse themselves and move on.
also didn`t jesus say "this good news of the kingdom would be preached in all the inhabited earth " for a witness ?.
when was the last time you heard a jw speak about "the good news of the kingdom" ?

@The Fall Guy Isaiah 43:10 I'm guessing most would use.
Thanks for that great list though, Colt Seavers!

Are Beards becoming more acceptable due to decline in membership?
by UnshackleTheChains ini noticed a young brother with a beard being given more privelages within our hall.
when he first grew his beard, he lost his privelages.
but more and more recently he has been helping out a lot more.. the cobe is old school and a stickler for rules, but with the hall becoming more empty these days, and the need for young brothers, he seems to have relaxed on this particular watchtower/man made rule.

No field service if you have a beard? Then I'm moving there!!!!

Watchtower Philosophy Debates
by Wild_Thing ini was wondering how many of you still enjoy (or maybe you just feel the need) to discuss and debate jw doctrine and scripture.
i find myself scrolling right past those topics i see online.
i could care less.

The phrase is "I couldn't care less". If you could care less, that means you DO care a little bit!
