Was there really a specific request for money in this week's meeting?

i have seen a few comments about this week's meeting.. was there actually a part that specified an actual per-publisher amount that should be donated regularly?.

can this be confirmed please?.

i truly cant believe just how brazen the society seems to be getting - and how desperate they are!.

well don't worry, as of next year we will be spicing things up for your enjoyment.. not only will we be having the talk before the memorial (i know, wild huh), but we will be treating you to the talk via video starring our famous speakers from bethel so you can see how a talk should be given (after all bethel does boast the best speakers in any country, right?!).

How do the foreign language Congregations find people to call on?

ok. i had a fascinating conversation with one of my polish colleagues at work.

she knows i'm a jdub and an activist as have filled her in warts and all about watchtower.. she came up to me today explaining how a couple of polish witnesses came to her door.

she was curious as to how they knew to call on her door knowing she was polish.

When I was in a foreign-language cong back in the UK, we used to go through the phone book and look for the foreign surnames that sounded as if they could be speakers of that language.

Do BT still do a hard copy telephone book and pop it on your doorstep along with the Yellow pages?

As a side point, here in Spain, loads of the JWs make a big deal about being an English SPEAKING congregation and NOT an English congregation, to which I reply "well it's registered as an English congregation with Bethel and not English speaking so take it up with them!" Maybe it's just a non-Brit complex a lot of them have here in the English congs.

Yes. Here in Spain it was 2€ each. It was so ironic going on for half an hour about how Russell emphasised we never beg for money then we get a 10 minute letter doing precisely that!

It won't make a jot of difference though as even the PIMIs will forget what they agreed to after a few weeks.

TO ALL CONGREGATIONS Re: 2018 Memorial and Special Talk
Dear Brothers:
On Saturday evening, March 31, 2018, we will gather to observe the Lord’s Evening Meal. (Luke 22:19) To generate enthusiasm for the Memorial, the special public talk, entitled “Who Really Is Jesus Christ?,” will be presented one week before the Memorial, during the week of March 19, 2018. Congregations that have an assembly or the visit of the circuit overseer the week of March 19 will have the special talk one week earlier. Most congregations will view a talk that has been prerecorded by the branch office, and in many cases, given by a member of the Branch Committee. We hope this advance notice will be helpful to you in preparing for these important events. Your brothers,

Please arrange for this letter to be read to the congregation at the first midweek meeting after its receipt. Thereafter, it should be posted on the information board. However, this postscript should neither be read to the congregation nor be posted on the information board.
In preparation for the 2018 Memorial, please review the direction on selecting a Memorial speaker and selecting Memorial meeting times found in the February 13, 2017, letter to all bodies of elders.
The prerecorded special talk will be available on JW Stream about one month prior to the week it is to be presented. Please assign an elder or a ministerial servant to download the prerecorded talk from JW Stream (using his jw.org credentials) several weeks before the congregation is scheduled to view it. Since there may be multiple recordings available in the same language, in early 2018 the branch office will inform groups and congregations which recording they should use. If possible, a backup speaker should be assigned in case of technical problems with the recording. If a congregation or group does not have the necessary equipment to view the recording or if the recording is not available in the language of the congregation or group, the body of elders should assign a qualified speaker to give the talk in the usual manner.
Since the speaker in the video recording will demonstrate how to develop an outline and effectively teach from it, each elder and ministerial servant who serves as a public speaker should carefully review the special talk outline, the Ministry School book, pages 52-55, and Reminders for Those Assigned Public Talks (S-141) before the talk is presented in the congregation. During the presentation, analyse how the speaker draws attention to the theme, how he uses the Bible as the basis for his talk, and how he teaches directly from the Scriptures. Also, observe how the speaker applies some of the teaching methods that will be discussed in the Kingdom Ministry School for the 2018 service year. The coordinator of the body of elders should ensure that any ministerial servant who serves as a public speaker is made aware of this direction and has access to a copy of the outline.

Help! Mike & Kim videos all being deleted by Youtube

due to watchtower flagging the mike & kim videos on youtube for copyright, youtube is giving them 6 days before they are shutting down their entire youtube channel.

can you help with a mass downloading program and then reuploading them on a mirror ?

would hate to lose all those good videos!

Sorry but Mike and Kim do nothing to help the redneck stereotype with their ranting and ravings, and then turning upon other ex-JWs like Lloyd Evans just because they don't like his approach to activism. I don't like to watch videos where either I or other people are insulted, shouted at or criticised just because I don't agree with their line of reasoning.

YouTube channels such as the "Ex-JW Critical Thinker" get my vote due to JT's very calm and professional manner, getting people to use their own thinking ability, rather than insulting his viewers.

Facial hair and Witnesses

i never understood why the society was against beards or goatees but completely okay with mustaches.

what's the difference?

facial hair is facial hair, whether it's above your lip or around your cheeks or under your chin.

I saw some pics on JWFacts of old pictures the Society had placed in their publications of Jesus with no facial hair-at all. Couldn't believe it. Forgot what time period this was. Might've been the '20s or something

@Jules No, if you look at the "Paradise Lost" book from the 50s (1958) that's the culprit. Lot's of pictures of Jesus and other first century men without beards, even ADAM!!!! Well at least they got Eve right!
