Gerrus a brewin if yer mashin duck!
Please would you make me a mug of tea my friend, if you’re making one yourself?
just though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.
first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.
red, arrow, break.

Thanks to AvoidJW.org for the originals. I believe he's in the process of writing an article about it.
just some thoughts for today - let me know what you think.
i grew up in the jw faith / cult - .
i can’t prove i am a better person because of it , but in some ways i can prove how it has damaged me.
@Scratch Me
You can choose to do good things and be a kind, decent person on your own and because you choose to, not because of some paradise on Earth nonsense.
Here here!
Positive things? Theocratic Ministry School made me confident when speaking in public; handy for business conferences.

for research i want to verify this:.
- has the latest version of the elder book (recent) a new text about child abuse and put aside the 2 witness rule in these cases?.
need to clarify.. g..
They can call Bethel, investigate all they want Gorby, (heck, when have the elders ever needed an excuse to investigate something?!) but they cannot and will not have a judicial committee unless there are two witnesses to the crime sin!
i recently attended a non jw funeral at a local church.
during the service, a couple of friends/relatives of the deceased eloquently spoke for a few minutes about the deceased with some of their fond memories and gave heartfelt, respectful tributes.. would i ( a non jw) be given a few minutes to speak at either of my jw parents funerals at the kingdom hall ?.
i guess i already know the answer, but if the answer is "no", then why not and how would they hide the heartlessness of refusing ?
@Pale Emperor
Not at the KH, but here in England at least we have another little eulogy at the crematorium where anyone who wants to can get up and speak.
I've already told my wife that if she dies before me then I will NEVER have a talk given in a KH. The purpose of a funeral should be to recall moments and honour the deceased, NOT give a public talk promoting JW ideals.
I've always preferred the crematorium talks for that very reason. Plus I asked my wife to promise me that if I die before her, then she will see to it that I don't get a recruitment talk given in a KH either nor in any other place. I just want people to remember the good times we all shared together then on to the wake/party to celebrate life!
i couldn't bleedin' well resist it.
there were these 2 jobo blokes standing behind a jobot trolley.
jobo, 'what's that?'.
@Giordano
Trolley's......... worse idea since lugging around portable record players to play a speech by that idiot Rutherford.
I don't know about that. I saw a couple yesterday who had the two trolleys set up next to each other, whilst the JWs were sat 100m from them in the bar having food and drinks. Nice easy ministry if you ask me!

No changes in the elder's book as of yet, Gorby.
As Smiddy said, it was in a Broadcasting episode a couple of months back that the GB will never change their "two witness" policy.
