I Think That I Chose My Parents.
by Englishman indo you believe in reincarnation?.
i dont think i believe in it in the same way that most believers do, which is that we keep coming back in different fleshly bodies until we have achieved perfection.. i do, however, strongly suspect that we may well be spirit creatures who find it necessary to inhabit a fleshly body from time to time, and that this entails us having to leave behind most of our past memories.. i say most memories, because many people seem to have some vestigal recollections that don`t seem to fit in with earthly experiences.. i`m pretty sure that i chose my parents!
i have a recollection of being shown a young and kind couple through some form of astral telescope and choosing to become their son.

perfect-i made it a point NOT to attack any doubters. i think it was obvious that i respect your right to think as you will. i only asked that those who do doubt be respectful of those who don't. i don't need to argue this topic with anyone-it's a very personal belief. while i do think you have an educated opinion(i'm not going to say you don't because we don't agree), i think the way you expressed that opinion wasn't very kind. i don't want there to be any rules, i was just expressing my own thought that all views should be shown respect.-nate

Special assembly day
by comment ini attended a local special assembly day yesterday.
didn't seem like too much had changed overall.
however, i've got some questions.. 1) when did the society decide to revert to allowing witnesses to study more than one book with their bible studies?

""Scriptures that I read casually at one time now take on an entirely new
meaning."ROFLMAO-i think this what gets the WT into so much trouble, taking scriptures one at a time and reading too much into them, then, voila!, "new light"!

this post gave me so many thoughts, i hardly know what to say. in this situation i usually try to keep it short.
shauna-i am so sorry for your loss. i don't know if there would ever be anything i could do to help, but i would if i could. i would say more, but i wouldn't want to accidentally trivialize your pain. my thoughts are with you as well as rileygurl's.
englishman-i understand what you are talking about-i've always felt something "extra" in my life that has helped me. we often try to condense the thought of our personal "energy" into a form that is to simple. i've been connected to my wife in a special way since we first met, and it has helped me to be there for her even when she lived a thousand miles away. i won't say more because it take far to long to describe exactly how i feel about the spiritual nature of us as humans.
wendy-i understand what you are saying about your feelings on the subject being very personal-thank you for sharing what you did:)
doubters-it doesn't really matter what you believe. if it is a reality for some of us and not for you, that's okay. if you are happy with what you understand to be true, that is all you need. please don't try to make light of our honest expressions, though.:)(somebody-not refering to you here, you were very respectful)

Unresolved anger or overwhelming sadness?
by LDH inwell, which is it guys?.
are you filled with anger at the wbts or just sad that things aren't what you though they were?.
i'm very sad that my parents won't talk with my sister (da'd) or my brother (df'd) even though the society's own web-site says that such actions do not sever family ties.

lisa-good question, i have definitely had my share of both emotions. i used to be very angry at the way myself and others were treated with so little compassion, and i still get mad once in awhile. now when i think about it, i am mostly just sad that i have to be so misunderstood by my family, that they have to view me as "blind". my eyes are more open now than they ever were. at least both these emotions(anger and sadness) have gotten a lot easier to deal with. i empathize with all the feelings on this thread:)-nate

In there no good in the WTBTS??? or ourselves??
by jst2laws inwe hopefully all agree it is wrong to reject an entire race because we have found one of its member to be flawed, or to reject an entire concept an the basis of finding a flaw in its argument.
would not fair people look for a way to accept the good in the concept, modify the flawed portion and rejoice in what was gained from the refined concept?
it would also be wrong, as the wt does, to reject an entire institution because some of its precepts are flawed.

How Well Do You Know The Bible?
by dark clouds ini want to share a perspective, with everyone that comes here to read, for i feel it will take some of us in a new direction.
perhaps it will allow for some creative thinking and interesting discussion or maybe it simply wont go anywhere.
it does not really matter either way, for there are subjects which can only be speculated on and thoughts which can only be shared.

hey chuck, nice post. i for one feel it is way to self limiting to deny the common truths found in so many religions/belief systems throughout the world. when christians refuse to accept the validity of the neighborly values of the buddists, the factual reality of the taoists, the earth science of the druids, etc., etc., they close themselves off to a wealth of information that could help them understand life and the earth they live on. the fact that so many religions have similar legends/stories means something!! to answer just one of your questions to us all "? Why was one chosen over the other when it is obvious that these 2
major world religions originated from the same source?" refering to judaism verses islam, i think islam was rejected much later by a christian world who's biggest enemies, suprise, suprise, where the muslims. it was much easier to decide that their enemies were wrong and heathen and label the jews, who weren't really causing any trouble, as the more valid forefathers of their religion. i realize there were more factors involved, but the politics came into play heavily. thanks for starting this interesting thread-the WT hates speculation(supposedly) but i find it fun.:)-nate
