Goodbye and i want to say thanks
by nogs inthis is my farewell message.
i just want to say thanks to the number of people who i have spoken to and share stories with, i thought i was the only one who left for the reasons i did but i have met many and they have strenghened me in my life course now, basically i had never looked up witnesses before and was thinking about returning to the borg when i found this site, you all made me see that it would be like going backwards.
i feel strong now and will be not returning to this site, mainly as i want to let the past stay in the past, wts is the past and while i keep re-hashing it it will always affect my life.. thanks all.

Eminem and censorship
by Uni girl inwhen my son came home from the meeting, he told me that they were told not to listen to eminem because (in his words) he's bad.. i can not stomach the kind of censorship that is put upon people...aren't these things a personal choice or at least a parents choice.
by censoring everything they make a child go behind their parents back and close the line of communcation which could result in some real harm.
i listened to eminem with my son and whilst some of the things are very offensive it was quite clear to me that although he was talking in the first person, he was actually expressing what he thought societal problems were,(no one think bob marley actually son the sheriff do they??).

sfjim-i've read your comments, and i empathize with your view in that i'm sure it is motivated by a good heart. i hate censorship. it starts with things most of us dislike, and ends up trampling down things many of us like. i do think that eminem isn't out there trying to gay bash, but i do see how it could be taken that way. with most music, the motivation behind the lyrics is VERY open to interperetation, which is precisely why i think we cannot censor it. i remember when matchbox 20(i'm not a fan) came out with a song that upset many people because they thought it was speaking from an abusive man's point of view. then, when it was discovered that it was about an abusive woman, there was no problem. my point in making this reference is that it is a mistake to start bringing our own definitions to something that someone else has brought forward as art, even if we don't see it as art. i also agree, however, that some material is not appropriate for children. that is when the parent can chose what their child can encounter.
jim-i have no problem with methods taken to ensure that young children will not have access to certain materials w/out their parents permission, as long as it doesn't start that evil censor snowball rolling.
i think that with censorship, the gray area is to large to start drawing lines on what is and what is not acceptable. also i think that humans need to be very careful when it come to judging something based upon how it appears on the outside-it's to easy to make a mistake. besides, we all have the ability to chose for OURSELVES what we want to be exposed to and what we don't. just my opinion, not trying to offend anyone-nate.

To StiLLinTruth
by LoneWolf inthis is only the second post that i've made on this board, so i hope that by posting this a second time, that i'm not violating some rule that i'm unaware of.
if i am, then i apologize to all.. however, this answer to stillintruth is on the fourth page of his last post, and i want to make sure he and as many others as possible can see it.. you will note that i sign my real name to the bottom of this.
that is meant as an open challenge to any and/or all to do something about it.

i second that motion, farkel. hey, still, it's really easy to be that cocky with someone like lone wolf when you're sitting at your computer, isn't it? btw, is the sort of yuppy slang you use cool? just a question. -nate

What did you do?
by StiLLinTruth into all those who have in some way left the organization (be it disfellowshipping, disassociating, dis-whatever):.
come now, i know the amount of people who "realized that wt doctrine was in serious error" and politely handed in their letter of resignation has to be very small.
the level of bitterness and hostility towards the closest-to-what's-biblical organization has to develop some other way.. what did you do?

stillspouting-you have denied being haughty in a way only a haughty person could. bravo. also your posts have shown that you have now reached the intelligence level of parrots-creatures with the ability to mimic words and expressions drilled into them by others. no offensense, parrots. answering questions posed, with WT rhetoric, IMO, is no proud accomplishment. i have heard, almost verbatim, the same answers from too many witnesses to count. have you encountered fredhall? he seems a most worthy counterpart for you. TR might also have a picture that would help define your problem. thanks for the comic relief, my wife and i have had a good laugh. cheers-nate
p.s.-that's the same wife i am unable to support because of the fact that i smoke.

still- these are your "sharp" returns to my comments? please. i never said smoking is good for me, we all have our weaknesses-even perfect little boy in the bubble you. if i had a job where i couldn't afford to smoke and take care of my wife, i wouldn't smoke, duh.
shouldn't let human imperfections affect me that much? are you kidding me? human imperfection affect EVERY SINGLE ONE of us quite a bit, this also includes you, unless you are perfect.
your complete lack of compassion and your view of reality are refreshing, really.

still, since you like quoting scripture, you might like these-
james 4:6-however, the undeserved kindness which he gives is greater. hence it says:"god opposes the haughty ones, buthe gives undeserved kindness to the humble ones"
4:10-humble yourselves in the eyes of jehovah, and he will exalt you.

still in denial- is your haughtiness something you've learned from the bible? doubt it. it's not really any of your business, but your unchristian attitude intrigued me so much that i had to respond. first of all, most of us do not claim to be sinless. the posters here are very honest about their lives. what did you read that would make you think otherwise?
for myself, yes, i committed "wrongdoings" while in the org., but i also came forward to the elders and repented, just like your supposed to. i wasn't shining on anyone, i was sorry, and i turned away from those things as best i could. when i decided i no longer agreed w/ the WT's views, i walked away. i no longer associated w/ witnesses, and made it clear to those who knew me that i no longer considered myself one. this practice is supposedly recognized as dissassociation in the WT publications even w/out sending a letter.
from then on, i out, i didn't go and hide, i stayed in the same town, where i still am. after 4 years went by and the CO was putting pressure on the local body to be more firm, i was hunted down and disfellowshipped, even after i did send a d/a letter. i was d/fed for smoking, but before you start rubbing your hands together, remember, i had walked away 4 years previously and stopped associating. when i first walked away, i was in good standing.
hope in the future that you actually read that bible you are thumpimg. you might find an eye opener or two on how jesus treated his fellowman.-nate

child exploitation?
by truman infirst, thanks all who welcomed me to this board.
i appreciate your kindness.
i am kind of shy, and fearful, but my keyboard makes me powerful!

hi, truman, welcome to the board:) this practice bothers me as well. i think one byproduct of it is teaching the children while they are very young, that, because they are witnesses, they have the right to judge adults. some children start developing a high and mighty attitude that they don't even fully understand at a very young age. one jw grandmother (only 55years old) told me that her 7 year old grandson had every right to judge people as sinners. WOW!!! just spouting my 2-nate
p.s.forgive me, i'm feeling very cynical today:)
