I am not so much an anti-sandwicher as an agnostoaster.
We like to cook things left half-baked.
my friend says he has a magic sandwhich.
he says it cure cancer.
i asked him why and he said he has a very old cookbook that says so, and because he gave it to a friend with cancer and he got better.

i was on the phone complaining to my wife how much i owe in taxes this year.
no refund.
she started in about how sister soandso is a pioneer, and since she considers this her career, she claims things like shoes, gas, clothes, and even if she has a part on a circuit or district, she claims the expenses for hotels and such.

There are deductions that can be used if you claim to be a minister. So she may well be within the law
If she was a Ministerial Servant or higher on the JW class list she could claim Minister status but her being female, that's a tad unlikely.
Policy may have changed but circa 1986 the Society ruled that any brothers not Ministerial Servants could no longer claim a ministerial defence for failing to do National Army servce. Doncha love the way the Watchtower Society is run by a$$ covering, (a$$ett protecting) lawyers.
as children, we were always taught not to accept candy from strangers and not to ride with strangers.
however, it seems that the danger most always comes, not from a stranger, but from someone the child knows.. one day we headed to the school bus stop knowing we were 'almost' late.
we waited and waited.
g'day cameo-d,
your post reminds me of a discussion I had a few years back with a Church of England Reverand and his wife (a scholarly couple devoted to writing Church sponsered theological works).
When I bought up the subject of evil lurking in religion he wasn't surprised at all but was mildly amused at my naivety to think it might be any other way.
He went on to say "what better place for evil to hide than under a cover of righteousness and piety."
thinking back, there were a few things i was told then, that now seem rather odd and petty.
i was wondering if these thing are common in the wts or was it just that my girlfriend at the time was a pioneer, and her father was an elder.
(so perhap a bit more "enthusiastic" than others).
Throwing confetti at weddings is evil for some reason.
Wind chimes are evil.
The clinking of glass in a toast is evil because it originated to scare off evil spirits, but it's okay to burn a mattress you bought at a yard sale in order to destroy evil spirits. Yes, makes sense.
Hi Quillsky,
throwing confettii is an ancient fertility rite
(besides its pagan origin, we can't have good dub girls desiring a tribe of kids when there is so much preaching concentrate on).
Yes windchimes are defartnartly evil .. well annoying anyway.
And clinking glasses? Call me a cynic but I'm suspicous that the WTBTS has 6 million people going to bed each night scared witless
about demons but offers no means for one to protect or defend oneself (apart from submission to Watchtower will through prayer).

ps: It's funny how the Watchtower Society has no problem with things like baptism, passover and marriage itself having pagan origins.
art clokey, the creator of the whimsical clay figure gumby, died in his sleep friday at his home in los osos, calif., after battling repeated bladder infections, his son joseph said.
he was 88.. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-me-art-clokey9-2010jan09,0,3938052.story.

mmm .. yes what happened to the real Gumby?
well i've got to start cooking for tomorrow.
ironically, i'll be spending christmas with some witnesses this year, as we're going to my sisters and she's invited her family, her father in law and some dubs from the hall over.
thankfully, the ones that are coming are normal and treat me fine, even though they know i don't go anymore.
I hope you have a wonderful time ((((Mary))))
largly, i found over the years, the media seldom runs stories on jws.
sure there is the odd sensation in a paper about a child not having blood or something or some brief mention.. why has the media not got hold of the child abuse situation?
with the mainstream church's in australia and globally, they had a field day.
An absorbing video.
Thankyou Black Sheep.

Wow that's cool,
thanks outofthebox.
I pioneered from age 15-18. My pioneer partner and I rode bicycles. Is riding from farm to farm selling little blue books considered odd? That and camping by the road in suits, bathing in the sea and living on Tuna sandwiches for a week? .. what about racing mormon missionaries from one side of the 'city of churches' to the other?
