my wife and i met with 3 elders for a "judicial hearing".. our crime: simply put, was talking.
i showed a friend the un website where the wts was listed as an ngo which then led to a 2 hour discussion of various doubts that we both have had.
my wife also showed a friend the un thing but also discussed with her a first hand account of a pedophile cover-up that we knew about in our former congregation.

i know that my child is well off.
we're not rich, by any means.
we're still in the post college, young years of marriage, just "starting out".
Esmeralda,
Thank you for telling us about this
precious event in your life. Eloquently
relayed...and I, for one, had my tear ducts
opened. ~¿~
Warmly,

thats right, the co along with one of the local elders paid an unexpected visit to my wife and i this morning.
i was just busting at the seam to bring up the un fiasco but i refrained as they do not know i have made my journey to the darkside.
my wife just glared with the "looks that kill" as they spewed the usual "time is near better not persue a career" line and i should be providing "spiritually" for the family.
Mole,
I got an urpy feeling just thinking of the
"suited men" coming into my living space...
You were very BRAVE this morning!
Congratulations on "finishing up your schooling!"

i want to thank so many of you for giving me the ammunition i needed to initiate actions that i hope will save at least one of my two children from the cult of the wtbts.
i have been able to undertake some positive actions in no small measure because of all you people here.
some of you may recall from earlier posts that two of my boys friends were dis-fellowed and that i went ballistic when my kids told me they were not allowed to talk to their best friends because the society says we cant.
Freeman,
What a touching experience! Brought tears
to my eyes.
Your son is SO fortunate to have you as his
father. And I can only imagine the intensity of relief
you felt at being able to really talk with him about
these issues that the organization expects you to keep shrouded.
My daughter was ten when her "elder" father began the process of
twisting her mind against me, the "fallen witness." Five years have
passed and his maniacal plot had hellish success insofar
as Parental Alienation goes...
Just keep the conversations flowing with your son.
YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT FATHER!!! APPLAUSE!!!

Time is thirsty
Gulping seconds...sipping minutes...
Pouring hours into days, months, years...
Life...Drink it in for time is unquenchable

SO WHAT if she didn't get the details straight...She is in DISTRESS!!!!!!!
that was the heading of a section in the minneapolis star-tribune's gossip column dated 8/12/01.
prince rogers nelson, based in minneapolis, is an internationally famous musician-composer-singer of the 80's and 90's.
recently he converted to the jw's.
~Stephanus~
I fully agree with you. I wondered what ever became of Dan Peek...(Dewey and Gerry formed again w/out him?) Hmmm...and yes...Prince
as a jw??? This stretches my imagination!!!
So, when you called him:"the-artist-futurely-known-as-an-apostate"
it struck me as...Good humor!

i'm interested in finding out what everyone is reading these days.. or what books have had an impact on your worldview since leaving the org.. what have you found helpful in re-constructing and broadening the way you think and feel?.
what have you found to be particularly enlightening on 'your journey?'.
thanks in advance,luv to all.tina.
Ahhhhh...Books...Nice thread!
Well...of course, Crisis of Conscience
is right up there with my recently completed "worldview changing" books...
But I must admit, after I left the organization, I majorly
rekindled my intense love of reading good stories and NOT
FEELING GUILTY over getting "lost" in them! That realization
in itself was starkly eye-opening for me!
Hmmm...everything by Amy Tan, Gail Tsukiyama, Memoirs of a Geisha
was sublime (Golden), Nick Bantock!, Poetry by Rumi and Matsuo Basho,Andy Goldsworthy art books, Banana Yoshimoto (as a jw I would have deemed her writing totally verboten!) Sitting in a neat stack waiting for me are: Michener's, The Source; Undset's, 'Lavransdatter' Trilogy; Tom Robbin's, 'Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates.' Plus, all sorts of "children's" books!
Harmony? You asked: "do any of you book lovers have a thing with needing to own the books you read?"
YES and YES again!!! Owning them is half the pleasure!!! Many of them I purchase new and many at thrift stores...but actually OWNING THEM
is...is...well you know how it is!!!!!!! ô¿*

ever heard that song?.
"lord, they were dancing down at the kigdom hall".
"lord, they were swinging down at the kigdom hall".
