I was watching the telly

i was in bed watching the telly this morning (what, i hear you ask, not at the meeting?

no actually) and the prog was "the world at war" on the splendid bbc2 - this is quality tv for all you americans that don't have quality tv and have to wait for ours to air over there - and this german was saying that he was present at the rallies where hitler was giving his speeches and that he looked around at everyone, their faces and apparent joy and ferver.

he said he listened to the speeches and understood the words but could not believe them.

Do you mean like when everyone stops and eyes you with suspicion whilst you 'mosey (for our american cousins) up to the bar'

or those when when you have no impact at all and have to fight your way to the bar

or the music is so loud that you cannot order a beer without sign language or where they have those

bloody pub quizzes with the questions booming out all the time while one is trying to play pool -

you know like 'Noooow, oooo was prum-inister durin' the waaaarrrrrrr', or 'this one will get you gooowing, wot bloke

smacked the bald git in eastenders on the nut and said "ow's it going slap-'ead?"'

Are JWs loosing it?

personally, i am more of a lurker than a poster, which i guess is because i am still very much on the fringes of the organization.

although many here have become bitter due to their experiences in the truth, i am sure that many of us look back on some really great times we had.

there was a time when there was a great feeling of optimism, new families (not just the odd individual here and there) were studying and coming along.

I think that the rot really set in with the change of the generation. Though many JW took it on the chin as 'new light' none of them I spoke to has actually thought the whole thing through. It is dismissed in their minds. In reality they are keeping the unthinkable exactly that. What does it mean. It means that the hopes and aspirations of JW's has gone. The rug has been pulled from under them and cornerstones of faith have crumbled. I used to sit around the table with the family and we would work out the approximate date using the old generation 'light' as a benchmark. We could see clearly how much longer this old system had to run - you could work it out to within acceptable 'earth years' not god's '1000 years is as a day' stuff. It gave us hope and when those doors slammed in your face or you were ridiculed at work you could think that it was not for much longer. The damage that has been done by this is immeasurable. How many took out penisons - not me that is for sure. How many took out life assurance?. My kids were not supposed to go to school, now I have grandchildren. What this 'new light' did was to destroy hope and I think the WTS underestimated that and how much was actually hanging on that hope which was linked to the generation of 1914. Now this has gone and with it the hopes of the people. Sure, there are those still in, but what else is there for them when they have been in it for aeons and all they know is it. Now there is no hope and all they can say is the oft repeated mantra that we are '... deep, deep into the time of the end...'. Once that held some modicum of truth, now it is meaningless rhetoric.

He said he listened to the speeches and understood the words but could not believe them. He said how he wished he could have been immersed in it all like those around him, joining in in the 'joy' and feel the the way those around him did. But he couldn't, and to some extent he envied those present.

This took me back to the first assembly when I felt like that and how it percolated down through to the meetings where I would sit and think just those thoughts and wish that I was the same. It is a strange feeling, like singing a different tune to everyone else but only you can hear the difference. Ah well, lifes a bitch and then you die.

In 2002, the brothers were in a quandry about the 1914/607 dates. Some had departed from the faithful flock and were casting damming aspertions against Jehovah's people. What should they do? In the face of overwhelming evidance that Satan had promuglated it seemed certain that many would fall under the heel of doubt and dispair and take to the road that is broad and spacious to everlasting death, the second death from, which there is no return. The cry went out "To whom shall we look?" "To what shall be pledge our hope and lives?" This call did not go unanswered! In a blinding flash of light the Watchtower of 19th December 2002 said "WE shall Honour Jehovah and his people WILL be saved" This blinding flash of divine light infused power and renewed vigour in Jehohvahs people. In their thousands they went to the street dissemminating the good news declared in Kingdom News 39 entitled "Jerusalem Fell in 607 - how this affects you and YOUR future!!". Many brothers and sisters related grand and fine experiences of how truth-hungry, humble, right-hearted 'ones' joyfully accepted the truths from the grand table of Jehovah. These humble 'ones' did not sniff at the grand provisions like those in utter and satanic darkenss, those who loved the darkness and hated the light. Those who would try and ensnare those right-hearted ones with false reasonings and demonic exhaltions. In the bright light of bible truth these ones feared to stand before the charging forces of the only true God. Clearly, then, the blinding flash of divine approval was upon his people, leading them to further truths and joyus association with the whole association of brothers. What a resounding call for action from the faithful slave in response to the cries for help from the sheep! Are we not bountiously well fed brothers?

There, that is proof enough.

Thanks for your comments. He does seem to speak out of both sides doesn't he (or she).

What (s)he is preaching is so out of step with WTBS dogma that it is hard to see how (s)he can still go to meetings. As I said in the original post it is a bit too guruistic for me and too definite, rather than an opinion it is presented as a statement of fact - like the WTS.

one thing i find about a lot of the british !!

!boy do they complain !!!

about the weather,bus system,trains, etc,etc,etc, i was there last year & i really had to laugh i went through the whole day once counting "complaints" ( they were numerous) when i asked one soul "what are you doing about it?

whislt queueing up for God knows what and for God knows how long.

Have you seen the price of potatoes and don't get me started on runner beans.

You know, those yankee chappies, across the pond, don't know they are alive.

They come over here in their Rupert bear trousers and scarfs and want to know how far it is to

Cornwall. I tell them, oh a bout 250 -300 miles or so, take you about 5 hours, bit of a run

I'm afraid. They snort (as only they can) Bit of a run, why in the 'states we go 7hunnered mile

withou' blinkin'. Fine I says, but then your roads are straight and empty

(thinks...like your head) but here we have a thing called the

Bank Holiday where the roads shrink to single file one way street with no escape.

Oh well, they will see for themselves. By Jingo, I do believe it is time for tea, so pip pip you fellows.
