Our Own Conference
by Valis ini know there are conferences that xjws attend, but since i ran accross joy castro's writings and new book today it got me thinking about the subject.
something non-religious in nature.....well as non religious as xjws can get anyway lol.
i think it would be cool if we could have people like her, kimberly norris, bryan, donald, and so many of the others that have done stuff for us.

No way it would be Bryan and as it would be held on a campus I couldn't have it be that kind of thing anyway. That is why emphasis would be on people like you and Donald and others who have written about your experiences. And have other facets of the experience explained by psychologists and people who focus on the study of abberant religious experience. And I also like Sherry's idea combined w/Lady lee's about group dynamics. It could make for some good topics to be discussed.

this and comments about my own attitude have caused me to review my motive for the posts i make.. when i first started posting here i was thoughtful and sincere as were most of the posters back then.

On a macro level, the Witnesses are pretty harmless
by logansrun inwarning: this post may be damaging to your biases.. it seems to me that the "danger" the witnesses pose to larger society is, well, pretty damn small.
just think about it: the witnesses are almost not involved in politics at all, except the occassional "freedom of religion and speech" issues they take to various courts, issues i am happy to support the witnesses in, even if i strongly disagree with their beliefs.
you will not see jws supporting banning abortions or gay marriages or a whole host of other civil liberties and freedoms that evangelicals rally around like the village people searching for frankenstein's monster.

yes, some of the teachings were very good
I would not go that far..and please feel free to provide examples.
Being able to say, "Yes, there were certainly good people in this organization--and, yes, some of the teachings were very good," in NO WAY suggests that it is a worthwhile organization. ; It isn't. ; Despite any positives, the leadership is deceptive, manipulative and continues to ruin people's lives in order to protect their authority.
Nicely put with the one exception I noted above.
So sure, bashing probably doesn't help, but the venting involved is important IMO. And posters here change in the way they exit and progress as humans all the time. Sometimes a lot more patience is required by those that are beyond most of it and lard knows I am one of them!..
Why do they have to be in 'sole possession' of something good in order to be considered (in some way) good?&
I think I was only trying to point out that they as a group and as ministers all of them supposedly live to a higher standard when in fact there are gillions of people that outshine them in every day life. They are not exemplary human beings as a group by far and in my mind do not deserve any special distinction. Just my 2 cents really. -
