while relaxing with my morning java at the local coffee joint i suddenly noticed window-washing equipment moving across the glassed surfaces of the restaurant.

yes, there was one of the local j-dubs hard at it.

the strange thing was the height of his helper ... about the height of an 8-year-old.

homeschool destroyed my brother. target was right about some parents believing the child will somehow do the work by themselves. ha! Try leaving a 14 or 16 year old at home by themselves. Talk about idle hands....Even though I didn't get the homeschool, I had the pelasure of spending many hours in the early morning helping my dad deliver newspapers, then went to school, then had to go to meeting, then study, or maybe do homework. By the 6th grade I knew full well what work=pay was all about and I told my dad I wouldn't help him anymore unless he paid me. He got real mad, but I stood my ground. No more paper route for Travis. We won't even talk about my mom and her Tupperware business....ugh!

To All Those With The Elders' Textbook

i'm not an elder but i do have a photocopy of the book from the net.

a number of elders in the congregation say that i should hand it over to them as "i should not have it.

" the chief reason they give for their request is that the information therein (such as the chapters on judicial cases) is not for my consumption and would not be of any use to me as i'm not an elder in the same way a book on surgical technique would be of little use to me if i wasn't a practicing surgeon.. the claim is made that those who post confidential "to the body of elders" letters on the net are being dishonest - therefore they are not christians.

Girls Playing Sports (good or bad idea)

The fact that many women's athletic departments at secular universities are hotbeds of lesbianism is not a coincidence

Man! I need to get more involved in women's sports!! clash, I'm sure you meant the best when you posted that article, but it really sucks. Anyway, the subject in itself isn't a bad one though. When my kids want to play sports I'll support them all the way, much unlike my own experience. I wanted to play baseball and basketball while in school, but you know how how JWs feel on the subject. When I was twelve I tried our for little league fastball. I wanted to play first base and pitch, both of which I was good at. So I try out, go home and make the big mistake. I told my parents. Of course they said no, because it would take away from meeting time, and service and studying, besides you get to play with the brothers every Sunday afternoon anyway....I believe this was the beginning of my careeer as a liar, a sneak, and definitely non-jw. By the time I reached high school I wanted to play basketball. This time I didn't even bother telling them, made sure I had a good excuse to stay late so I could attend practice and made the team. They never knew and I got to play. I'm sure Jehovah was pissed....

Which came first, man or woman?

if men were created in the image of god , and women created for men , then why do all foetuses start off female?.

according to the bible eve was created out of adam.. well i can't speak for adam but the basic body structure of a human it seams starts off as female , men branching off at a certain point of developement due to man making hormones.it doen't get rid of our nipples though.. if men came first or are in some way superior in gods eyes then why the need to develope as a female first , shouldn't it be the other way round?.

so shouldn't have god made eve first?

in this day and age, chastity devices tend to only be used by the bdsm community and it also seems to be a male kink, where a man's wife/mistress "locks him up" and only "lets him out" for her pleasure, blah, blah, blah.

Help! Recipes Needed

this is a request for favorite soup recipes.

due to a digestive health problem, i can't eat many solid foods.

i'll be making up soup broths, etc.

I love this soup...any time of year.

CARIBBEAN PUMPKIN SOUP

3 ½- 4 pounds fresh cooking pumpkins, peeled, seeded, and cut into chunks OR
4 15 ounce cans pumpkin meat
½ cup butter (1 stick)
½ cup olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
3 cloves of garlic, diced
1 serrano chile, stemmed and diced
3 tablespoons (2 ounces) peeled and diced fresh ginger root
12 whole allspice berries
2 fresh bay leaves or 3 dried
1 tablespoon dried thyme leaves
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup of flour
2 quarts rich chicken or vegetable broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 cups heavy cream

Garnish: spicy curry and cinnamon toasted pumpkin seeds, chopped fresh cilantro, Mexican marigold or tarragon leaves

Heat the butter and oil in a large pot. Saute the onion, garlic, chile, ginger and all seasonings until onion is wilted. Add the pumpkin meat, sautéing over medium heat until lightly browned. Toss with the flour, stirring to coat vegetables well. Continue to sauté, stirring occasionally, until pumpkin is very tender. Remove bay leaves. Stir in Worcestershire and taste for seasoning. Remove from heat and let cool at least one hour.

Puree in batches in blender until smooth. Return to a large pot, stir in heavy cream and reheat slowly. Ladle into bowls, garnish as desired, and serve.
