  Facing Existential Dread

  the watchtower corporations main appeal is a everlasting life, this makes it possible for one to avoid existential dread.

  this type of anxiety is a part of the human condition, and it explains the appeal of many religions to the human condition as it offers some relief from the anxiety about our life ending.. psychologist show the importance for facing this dread/anxiety.

  my feeling is that the more you can accept the fact that your life is very very temporal, the better you will live your life as you accept that you are very temporary and try to live life to the full and not be duped by religions appeal to calm this anxiety.. https://www.calmclinic.com/anxiety/types/existential .

  Great thread.

  There is nothing to fear. I know I came through my parents who in turn came through their parents which goes into infinity; yet each one supplied the seed in which all future generations remains protected. Yet parents did not design the software that the physical thing called seed is based on. This shows there is some interesting purpose to life which everyone has to find out which makes the search a thrilling experience.

  In some language, the word for heaven is coined out of two words which collectively means 'living in the awareness that I am child of God' which automatically makes feel confident of his enormous skills and talents, and if he also lives in the now exploring new avenues with his skills and talents he would live like being in heaven. On the contrary, if one is aware what others should do for him, or did to him, he would live like as though in hell.

  when we as former jws came to the truthful conclusion that what the wtborg cult inc. was teaching/preaching was not an accurate representation of the word, many of us decided to look into every nook and cranny to see if we could discover the real truth.

  With regard to its symbolic meaning it is very useful—dead to the old personality and emerging as alive to do God’s will. However, the Jews had this concept in-built into their very vocabulary. For example, the word for life is chayim in Hebrew. Chayim is written in the plural to imply truths such as:

  1) Life cannot be lived alone. We come to life not on our own, but through our parents who came, in turn, through their parents which ultimately starts from God. In other words, one’s life has meaning only when he knows he is a child of God. Interestingly, Chayim is formed from the word Chai (alive) and im (if), suggesting that being alive is conditional on our union with God in the truth.

  2) The plural also indicates each of us lives more than one life—inner and outer. It is not enough to have an upwardly mobile outer life filled with material possessions. It is not satisfying unless a person also has a richer inner life filled with meaning and purpose.

  Hence for a Jew, there was no need of being taught through Baptism.

  You are very true he would have shown his lust for power because his hidden agenda could be discerned by any keenly analytical mind. For example, the book Genius of Paul by Samuel Sandmel is like an investigative journalism which shows how Paul tries to undermine some of the Gospel writers.

Some of the female teachers were too wonderfully effective. This is equally true in all spheres—mundane and religious. Not to mention some of the efficient woman rulers. Germans proved Apostle Paul wrong in a spectacular way—they chose Angela Merkel fourth term as chancellor of Germany. In India even the Head of the Defense Department is a woman.

  2) Apostle Paul felt he had no control over his behavior (Romans 7:24) and he thought this aspect is true for all mankind. (Romans 5:12-21) Yet look at the world of those working in fields such as Customer Service, Air-hostess … they choose to show perfect control on their temperament even at the face of unjust/extreme provocation, yet they choose to be the opposite when they are at home (I have first experience from my twin-sister who is working as an air-hostess)

  Does Morality Exist?

  Morality exists and does not exist. For example,

  1)When you make a destructive criticism, you think you are right

  When you are destructively criticized, you think the other person is wrong.

  2)What appears to be good could be wrong when the recipient is changed. Cooperation is good when the recipient is also good like Law-enforcement agencies, employer …etc. Yet cooperation with anti-social elements is wrong.

  3)Anger is bad, yet it is also good sometimes because there could be grievous consequences of not getting angry, as well.

  In big picture, what works for the well-being of all is good and vice versa. I agree with Mike Gallagher who wrote: “Right and wrong are not relative terms. There are fundamental truths. Evil flourishes, but good men continue to battle it – and win.”

  My first jolt occurred when I read in the footnotes of scholarly versions of the Bible that John 8:1-11 [where Jesus' famous statement “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her” appears] is added later.

  Then I found out John 3 also added later ...

  Thus I came to the conclusion that No Scriptures belong to God; if they did, God would have dearly safeguarded them.

  I appreciate that.

  It is true that all revolt is a reaction, and all reaction is not a rebellion. When JWs suffer passively, this is also a reaction. Hence to differentiate from this, revolt may be good even though it may carry a negative connotation. Yet, revolt could be positive when it is used for freedom and against oppression, as happened in the case of American revolt against the British. It is in this land of hard-earned freedom that we find JWs thriving suppressing the freedom of their members.
