I found something in Watchtower literature I can agree with.
by Indian Larry ini ran across this excerpt from studies in the scriptures vol iv.
in it russell rails on as to why you should not tie youreself to any organization.
in a way he unknowingly predicts how the watchtower would turn against real "truth seekers" in their own organization, (quite possible the only prediction he ever got correct) and then goes on to show how the deluded witness just can't see how they can have a relationship with christ without a earthly organization.. .

I think it depends on what you want to do with it. There are some translations that are geared for easy readability but take liberties with words to create their own context. Other translations go for a closer word-for-word arrangement that is geared toward studying scripture. This can create a difficulty in simple reading. Me personally, I agree with Ding with the NASB and NIV as a decent balance. Several other ones mentioned above like the RSV and Message Bibles are quite good as well. It just depends on what you want to get out of it.

I have seen quite a few field service conversations on youtube. You just have to be willing to scroll through the myriad of videos that show up when you type in your search words.

A scary day in FS today
by InChristAlone intoday, the jw who normally comes and his son visited my house.
we were talking on the doorstep for about ten or fifteen minutes when the son began to to faint.
i saw it coming, but i couldn't reach him before he fell backwards, hitting his head on the brick landscaping border.

I live in the Southeast. Temperatures have been running highs of mid to upper-80's because it has been raining a lot. Very humid though, so still not comfortable.

Paul's rationale...
by NeverKnew inas a non-jw discussing "the only true" christianity with jws, i brought up romans 14 for obvious reasons.
after reviewing the chapter as a whole and asking appropriate questions, i went back up to verse 11 and sincerely asked, .
"by the way, how are comparative verses like romans 14:11, isaiah 45:23 and phillippians 2:9-11 interpreted in your faith with the same language being attributed to the father in the ot and jesus in the nt?

NeverKnew, I am with you 100%. To me, when it says Jehovah, it means Jehovah, not a representative of Jehovah. There are many instances when the bible says, "the angel of the Lord" or "the glory of the Lord" and later clarifies that to be Jehovah. So, is it Jehovah made visible or a representative? Doctrine will dictate perspective. In my experience, when discussing the Trinity, JW's set out to prove that the Father and the Son are distinct and that the Son is eternally subject to the Father. I quickly concede those points. They tend to be more receptive at that point because those are two of the most important things to them. Where they get hung up is the Trinitarian belief that "Jehovah" could be referring to any of the three or all three at the same time.
Since you are looking at practicing this sort of thing, I would highly recommend topix.com. If you have a specific question to have answered, this is a great location. Allexperts.com under Religion/Spirituality, Jehovah's Witnesses is another good one. For a Christian perspective, ask Derrick Holland. For a balanced JW perspective, ask Brenton Hepburn. Good luck!

Thank you for your comments. He is 15, I think. It could have been heat exhaustion. I highly doubt that he would claim anything on our homeowner's insurance. He has been coming on and off for two years and is one of the nicer ones I have had the pleasure of knowing, so no I don't plan on calling child protective services. It's unfortunately something that happens in this weather. I am so proud of my family and many neighbors who ran over to help. We had cold bottles of water for anyone who needed it, bags of ice for his neck, and a towel for his bleeding head, not to mention we took turns holding him in a comfortable position. With any luck the father and son were able to see the genuine kindness of "worldly" people. The father rode in the ambulance with him, so I am certain that FS was over for today. As for the rest of the JW's who came by, I don't know.
Update: the father called me tonight to fill me in. Many tests were run, and they all came back negative, so no lasting or underlying problems. He took a very long nap today and seems to be recovering well. He doesn't remember the fall or hitting his head, I am glad to say. I am most enthusiastic that the father let me pray for them over the phone and was very receptive to the idea. Remember, I am not a JW, so that was a big deal in my opinion. They will not return next week as it is their convention. Hopefully the following week, I will hear that he is happy and healthy. Thanks for your comments. For those who have been through it, I'm sorry. It is pretty scary.

It was a bit warm and humid, 11:15 am, but we were in the shade with a little breeze. He was also wearing a suit jacket. They had just come from a break at McDonald's. I think it was because he stood there for a while and probably locked his knees. I certainly hope he is okay.

If you are looking for a quicker response, perhaps try posting the same question on topix.com under the Jehovah's Witness forum. There are several eager witnesses who seem to congregate there.
Although I am a non-JW as well, I have had this discussion with them before. Here is what I would anticipate hearing, although I welcome correction from former or current JW's.
(NWT) Isaiah 45:23b says, " that to me every knee will bend down, every tongue will swear ". Romans 14:11 says, " for it is written: “‘As I live,’ says Jehovah, ‘to me every knee will bend down, and every tongue will make open acknowledgment to God.’” Phillippians 2:10-11 says, " so that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father."
What I would expect to hear is this...the three verses do not conflict with each other or prove that Jehovah is Jesus. In fact, you can merge the three together to say this...(R) "As I live", says Jehovah, (P) that in the name of Jesus ever knee should bend down (R/I) to me, (P) and those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, and (ALL) every tongue (I) will swear (R) and make open acknowledgment to God (P) that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of the Father. Therefore the verses work well together and also differentiate the Father from the Son.
It is easier to argue these verses when using other translations that use "Lord" in Romans 14:11 considering that verse 9 calls Jesus "Lord". But you will not go far with them using a translation other than the NWT.
There are many other Jehovah/Jesus correlations that will get you further than this one. I hope that helps.

Today, the JW who normally comes and his son visited my house. We were talking on the doorstep for about ten or fifteen minutes when the son began to to faint. I saw it coming, but I couldn't reach him before he fell backwards, hitting his head on the brick landscaping border. We called 911 and EMS came and took care of him. Many other JW's were quick to arrive on the scene, well before EMS (that's comforting...). I know the boy will be all right. I just wished I could have been two seconds faster in recognizing what was happening. Poor kid.
