I spent about two years in deep study on the Trinity. I can honestly say that I understand it about as much as I can. I had an epiphany when I realized two things: JWs think the Trinity is modalism (and so the questions they ask are moot), and when I began thinking of Jesus as literally God's Word and viewing scriptures with that in mind. It really changed my perception and brought a lot of clarity to this issue.

First of all, congratulations on reaching out to those outside the organization for answers. This must feel very uncomfortable for you, but you are doing the right thing by asking. As you said, the truth should be able to stand up to anything. There are many very intelligent people here who can answer your questions. Keep asking them. As OneEyedJoe mentioned, jwfacts.com is a fabulous resource as it simply quotes Watchtower literature. I would also add jwstruggle.com to your list. That site contains a higher percentage of people who have/had questions and remained believers in the Bible. Best wishes.

Just a random thought: I have always smiled when a JW explains to me how they determine that their religion is right and every other is wrong. The standards were created by their own people, and yet there are so many other verses that could be used to determine the true religion that do not apply to them. It's like someone saying, "I'm the best because my mom told me so."

by Ding inback in the 60s, wt literature stressed that jesus died to offset adamic sin.. later, they started talking in terms of jesus dying for personal sins as well, but maybe that was ray franz's influence.. as a jw, did you feel that jesus died for your sins or only for adam's original sin?.
does anyone know the current wt teaching on this?.

I believe the current teaching is that Jesus died for the inherited Adamic sin only and not for personal sins based on 1 Corinthians 15.

The evangelical viewpoint is that Jesus went to Sheol/Hades for three days and "preached" to the OT souls, both righteous and unrighteous.

do you believe it's based on things that happened, but a lot of it may just be stories and it's not perfect because men wrote it?

In my opinion, where you should go depends on what you want to get out of it. If the Bible is still an important facet in your life, you may want to simply seek Christ rather than seek another place to join. Every place has it's problems. If the beliefs of the Bible are not important to you, either find a place that meets your other needs or simply enjoy some much-needed family time. Come to think of it, that last suggestion sounds best either way.

What is the "new" date JWs are "hinting" at for Armaggeddon?
by booker-t inafter the 1975 "we did not say point blank armaggeddon was coming we only suggested it might come" fiasco what is the new date jws are "hinting" at for armaggeddon?
i know now they do not point to any specific date but hint that maybe it might occur such as before 2000 the preaching work will be finished.
this is a suggestion not a prediction so they can wiggle out of this one.

I agree somewhat. My disagreement only lies in the fact that you can only research a very small portion of their own material. It's very limited. I was thinking of other sites like jwfacts, Barbara's stuff, etc. What other sites do you routinely visit for some illuminating discussion on JW's, or any religion for that matter?
