i was withh a friend of mine who is a jw still and for whatever reason we started talking the bible.
i asked him about lazarus and how is that when he died he paid the price of sin, but then jesus resurrected him.
and i asked him "where is lazarus today?
"At least we ain't Lazarus, and had to think twice 'bout dying"
so in the october jw broadcast, there is a "morning worship" segment in which g. jackson goes to great lengths to explain how the term "those taking the lead" are not "leaders".. the terms are exactly equivalent, of course, but jackson, with a wink & smirk, pats himself on the back for his own cleverness on how different they really are.it's just so bizarrely absurd.. imagine if such tortured reasoning were applied to other areas..... -------------------------------------.

Methinks they are laying the groundwork to distance themselves from being held accountable for possible major lawsuits coming. Won't work in the courts, of course, but in the minds of the true believers, they can be convinced that their leaders, er, um, those taking the lead, I mean, are not responsible for the grievous behavior being blamed on them.

my jw wife, like all of us, was saddened by the senseless killings in nevada.
she said, "the shootings just shows how much we need god's kingdom.
" i replied, "yes if it was armageddon, jehovah wouldn't have left any survivors.
After some celebrity dies, there are invariably comments, sometimes lots of comments, about how glad the writer is that [dead celebrity] will be resurrected in paradise, and how much the writer is looking forward to singing / dancing / what have you with [dead celebrity].
I guess I've been away too long. I do remember the occasional zealot making a comment like that here and there, but it was usually an older person, or one of those that wasn't quite right to begin with. It seems most of us didn't dare utter such nonsense, because, I think, deep down we knew it was wrong to be gleeful over people suffering and dying.
So does this mean lots of dubs are happy about Tom Petty? They're hoping they can jam with him and the All Star Dub Band in the New System?

Theological conundrum... as a JW, you hope for 'the end' to come soon, where God destroys 99.9% of the world's population, and this is a good thing.
But most JWs when they see disasters, and violence kill multiple people, they are usually saddened much like anyone else.
But, if they truly believed their own doctrine, they should be happy for these people... These people just got a free pass to the other side, while those that Jehovah destroys are destroyed forever.

just like when we were jw's doing the knocking, it's good to have a question prepared to get them thinking about their own beliefs.
Saw several that are kind of 'go to' questions, when pressured. Blood doctrine questions. I like the 'do you believe in freedom of religion? Why shun those who leave your religion?'
But a picture is worth a thousand words - especially to a group of people who don't really read that well. So:
Present a cover of the 1984 WT with the illustration of the old folks, and the caption, "1914 - The Generation That Will Not Pass Away", and ask, 'Are these people still alive? Has the generation of 1914 passed away?'
i think everyone has the freedom to protest, they also have freedom of speech, these are two fundamental things that make america amazing.
but thinking rationally about what is going on with the nfl, therefore, i have an unfavorable opinion of the league, and the players, not their right to free speech, but their motive and execution of it.
constitutional freedom to protest ends at the workplace door too.
Lost in all this is that Trump's hand in this past weekend is a typical Trump tactic. Fire up his base, piss off his adversaries, get both sides arguing and fighting, and then introduce new travel restrictions while most people are bitching about ball players...

JWs love home schooling. They can indoctrinate during their school classes/work, just as they can any other time. And it carries over in all aspects.
In my home town, the local home schoolers (somehow organized through the state or something, not sure how it worked) staged a play and all parents/families/friends were invited to attend. Much like going to a play at a real school. I went, invited because my nephew was home schooled, and in the play. Come to find out, when I got there, 80% or more of the kids were JW kids. So the audience was roughly 80% JW. My brother, nephew's father, was invited to attend of course. However - he's DFd. He was shunned by all the other JW parents in attendance. I and a couple of non-JWs were the only ones to have a conversation with him.
It was surreal. Typical parents cheering their kids on, joyful before and after the performance, yet making it clear that this one father was unwelcome and unliked. One child tried to speak to him, but was dragged away by a parent and scolded for talking to the DFd man.
Now, that's the kind of environment I don't want my kids in...
