  JW Urban Legends

  did any of you hear any of the urban legends that jw's used to scare people into being deathly afraid of demons?

  for example i remeber hearing that a child brough a smurf doll to a meeting and upon hearing the name jehovah uttered it got up and walked out.

  Here's one from an elder's school. A young sweet sister got pregnant. She knew not how. A judicial committee was formed. She denied EVER having sexual relations with anyone. The elders felt that obviously, she was lying. But one elder was still bothered. He couldn't believe this sweet young sister could be a fornicator. So he decided to retrace all her steps, especially from the time that must have gotten pregnant. After talking to her father and her mother, they all realized that one day, the daughter went to the DENTIST. He put her to sleep and must have raped her. They decided to approach the dentist with their suspicion and the promise that if he admitted to this act, they would not report him, but they really needed to know. The dentist admitted the dirty deed and the young girl was spared disfellowshipping.......The moral of the story? Elders should be sure that a person is guilty before being disfellowshipped, especially if the person strongly denies it......TRUE STORY!!!

  Ok at the end of your post you say, "TRUE STORY!!!"

  I guess I thought that you were saying that this was a true story. I guess was confused. Sorry

  I've heard the John Denver rumor. Heard he opened his concert with the National Anthem and then said that all JWs can leave.

  Mike Oldfield's album Tubular Bells got me in trouble. It was that music that was used in "The Exorcist". I didn't know at the time. I heard it on the radio, liked it, bought the album. Found it later that it was used in the movie. I didn't care. I had not seen the movie so it didn't mean anything to me. But others who knew I had the album let it be known how "weak" I was for owning it.

  Minimus, I don't mean to call you a liar, but I have trouble believing the dentist story. Even if the elders didn't care not to report it, how could this sister or her parents(if a minor) not be incensed and call the cops. If she was a minor and the elders didn't report, isn't that illegal? Sorry, but this just doesn't ring true.

  I went to the Assembly....

  i was at home and a man came to the door...i knew immediately he was a jw brother, however, he was quite handsome (no offense) and very well built.

  he looked like a cross between brad pitt/tom cruise/evan marriott.... he wore a very nice dark gray suit that formed perfectly to his sculpted muscles...he had a very nice book bag.

  black, brushed silver hardware.

  Holidays are still not observed by me. Not that I condemn them now. I just don't participate. I do go to the parties though.

  Still don't vote. Though I have taken more of an interest in local politics and the goings on of city hall. I pay more attention to what worldly governments are up to and I do allow myself to have an opinion, though I do not express it very often.

  I do cuss more. Though I try to use it for emphasis only. I drink about the same as before, but I enjoy going out to bars and clubs more and I don't care who sees me there. I hang out with my wordly co-workers after work. I flirt with the opposite sex. Tried pot. Just saying no now. And I post on "apostate" web sites.

  About two or three years ago there was an email floating around about a special circuit assembly in North Carolina, I believe, where a friend of a friend listed her notes about some special Bethel member giving a talk and describing the end getting very near or something like that. This special CA was held in a park??

  I remember getting that email. I filed it with all the other junk e-mail I get.

  Remember the backward masking controversy of the late 70s or early 80s? It didn't start with the Witnesses, but they sure did jump on the bandwagon. I remember hearing about the Bethelites destroying scores of albums and tapes. It trickled down to all the congregations and soon Witnesses were destroying music from across all fields of music. RUSH had the pentagram on the covers of their albums so they worshipped Satan. The Eagles had some creepy guy on a balcony on the inside cover of Hotel California. They worshipped Satan. Fleetwood Mac had crystal balls on the covers of their albums. That and Stevie Nicks dressed in black flowing gowns. So of course they worshipped Satan. Shouldn't have to mention bands like Black Sabbath. No good JW would buy their albums to begin with.

  One that I heard:

  A brother was watching "The Exorcist" on TV when he got a pang of conscience and decided to change the channel. No matter what channel he flipped to, The Exorcist was on. He cut off the TV and still the movie stayed on. He unplugged the TV. Still the movie stayed on. He finally prayed outloud to Jehovah and the movie went off.

  Another one that ended up having a simple explanation:

  A sister kept waking up to the bed shaking each night. But everytime she woke her husband(who slept thru it) the shaking would stop. After several nights, she became more and more terrified, knowing it was the demons. Finally, one night the brother felt the shaking too, looked at the foot of the bed, and there sat the family cat at the foot of bed cleaning himself and scratching. Case solved. It was a demon cat with fleas.

  They were at my door Saturday

  i had just got home after running some errands when i noticed 2 sisters at my door.

  i got out of my car and asked if i could help them.

  they started with their typical opening.

  I would love to see this happen every time a JW comes to the door. I think it would have a profound effect on the organization.

  I don't think so. I think it would just make them believe that they are being persecuted thus giving them firmer resolve in their faith.

  Well We Lost

  just got back from our week long trip at the state basketball championships.

  my boys lost and were eliminated.

  team that beat us ended up winnning state.

  Condolences on your season ending without a chamionship but congratulations on an otherwise successful season. The boys might not have a championship to enjoy but the experience of being in the playoffs and playing even(for three quarters anyway) with the eventual champions will be a memory they will cherish the rest of their lives, along with the memory of the coach who got them there.

  there are news reports at the moment going around about a women basketball player that turned her back on the flag to protest the iraq war.

  her comments to reporters were that she was: "raised as a jehovahs witness in richmond, calif., she said her mother, fayette elliott, does not acknowledge the flag and raised her children to believe they could choose not to as well.

  What planet are you from?

  I know for a fact that some do own a gun!

  I have recently moved back to planet earth after a long stay at planet watchtower.

  I didn't say Witnesses don't own guns. I owned guns as a Witness and I still do. I said they are not supposed to own guns. They are not to have guns for self-defense. The Society even frowned on hunting, especially for sport. They compared it to Nimrod.

  True Christians love peace. They stay completely neutral in the world’s military, political, and ethnic conflicts. But, strictly speaking, they are not pacifists. Why? Because they welcome God’s war that will finally enforce his will on earth—a war that will settle the great issue of universal sovereignty and rid the earth of all enemies of peace once and for all.—

  So God isn't a pacifist. That doesn't mean a bunch of religous nuts aren't either.
