page 32 shows the example of a young woman in poland who had to make the decision to either follow the simple custom of bribing the teachers with money or gifts to get better grades or to follow the bible and realize that god disapproves of any bribery.

she said," i understood how easy it is to succumb to peer pressure.

i thought it over and since then never shared in this custom again.

I knew of one brother who would take his beat-up car to a mechanic who would put an inspection sticker on it without really seeing if the car was road worthy. I was rather surprised to say the least that the brother would do that. Though the mechanic was the one in violation of the law, why should any law-abiding citizen try to get away with driving a car that was not properly inspected? And that brother's knowledge of the mechanics conduct and his complicity in it made him guilty too - possibly even "bloodguilty" should an accident occur. An elder told me that the brother was doing this, and he said it in almost a joking manner, as if there was nothing wrong with it.

You must know me 'cept my cars were always road worthy. Mine wouldn't pass cause I changed the exhaust systems, leaving off the catalytic converter, so then it wouldn't pass. But if you know the right people.....

9-15-13 WT "Keeping Awake at This Time of the End"

We are living in the last days. Bible prophecy is being fulfilled in our very life time. Are we alert and awaiting for Jehovah's final judgement against this old world? Many of our faithful brothers are staying awake at this time of the end and are helping to spread the good news of the kingdom. We are living in the last days. Bible prophecy is being fulfilled in our very life time. Are we alert and awaiting for Jehovah's final judgement against Christendom and the Wild Beast? Many of our faithful brothers are staying the course and are helping to spread the good news of the kingdom. But, sad to say, many have let the pressures and concerns of this old world distract them from our life saving work. Many who have let worldly matters pull them from God's Organization(note that from 2009 on the word organization is capitalized). They were distracted when the generation that saw 1914 passed completely away from the earth without Armageddon happening. Why are they blaming Jehovahs and his Faithful and Discreet Slave? From the pages of this very magazine, it has been pointed out that we are living in the last days of this generation. Many brothers took this to mean that generation meant in the lifetime of those living then. But in 1995, the slave class explained exactly how the word generation was to be used. Should we let our personal interpretation of a word keep us from doing this all important life saving work? Be assured that Jehovah's day will come when he means for it to come. Remember that it will not come when we want it to come. What can we do to help those burdened by this old world do to come back to the Organization? I'll Pray for you. What's your feelings when someone says that to you?

for those of us who left organized religion, how does it make you feel when a xtian says they will pray for you because you don't believe the same as they do?

personally, in my opinion, that is a very obnoxious statement, especially if i don't ask or want someone to pray for me.

to me, that's saying that i am wrong and they are right, and they are praying to god that i will see things their way.

Cruise Tips Anyone?....

hubby and i are about to embark on our first cruise this coming weekend.

we fly to ft. lauderdale, and sail to key west and then to cozumel and back to ft lauderdale.

(five days, four nites) we are on the royal caribbean line, and our ship is the enchantment of the seas.. have any of you taken this cruise before?

Speaking of cruise tips....don't forget that you will have to tip your waiter, bus boy, wine steward(if you use him) and cabin steward. Some first time cruisers don't know this and are surprised at how much it adds up. Usually it's $2-3 per person per day for each of the help mentioned. You put the cash in an envelope and hand it to them on your last night of the cruise.

Shore excursions cost extra too. Some are well worth it, others not so worth it. In Cozumel do the Jeep Safari Tour. That was a lot of fun. Several snorkeling adventures at Cozumel also. Can't remember which ones I've done, but no bad experiences with any of them. Key West has a couple of good snorkeling deals, but you can save the shore excursion money and just walk around the town, shop, hit the bars, etc. It's just a great place to hang out and do nothing.

Jehovahs Witnesses why I hate them

i hate jehovahs witnesses pure and simple.

i know hate is a strong word and people often try to encourage one to find an alternative manner of description.

Hate the religion known as Jehovah's Witnesses? No problem there. Hate Jehovah's Witnesses as a collective group of poeple? There are some individual JWs that would be easy to hate. Those who use their position as a way to control others for instance. Those high enough up to know the lies that are spread could be hated easy enough. Any one JW who goes against Jesus' example of love and mercy and uses the dogma of the WTS to berate and intimidate others; they don't deserve being liked. But what about the common puplisher who struggles daily to just get by in life and struggles to do what he's been told is necessary to gain God's approval? I can't hate that person. What about those JWs who feel something isn't right but continues in the pattern because they don't know any other way? I can't hate that person. What about those that stay in name only so they can keep their families? They may know it's not right, but to disown the religion means disowning their family. So they go underground and don't believe anymore. I can't hate that person. I can't hate the children who were baptized at 12 and 13 not knowing what they are doing.

Maybe the question should be, "Should one make a show of praying before a meal?" as in a restaurant or other communal situation. Family prayer at the dinner table is one thing, but to sit in a restaurant and make a ritual of prayer before eating is another. Why can't you pray silently without head bowed? It comes off as a bit pretentious or self-righteous to partake in this praying ritual in front of a bunch of other people who didn't follow that same ritual.

Why do you need to bow your head or close your eyes or hold hands to pray anyway? I avoided eating meals in public with one JW family because the elder father would always stand and pray for the whole table in the restaurant. I just wanted to slide on down under the table and slip out the door while everybody's eyes were closed.

What's Wrong With Mother's Day? I Forgot.

okay, maybe i'm getting old or maybe it's because i have been an exjw for going on 10 years now, but i can't remember what's up with jws and mother's day.

i remember my mother going with another sister to my brother's classroom for some mother's day pageant back in the 60's when we lived in alaska.

there is also a commandment in the bible about "honor your father and your mother.

....the issue regarding Mothers's Day is tied to pagan nations.
It seems that mothers made up a large percentage of the pagan population. In fact, the publication mentioned that approximately 50% of the population in Babyon either was a mother or would likely become a mother.

Well, um, what does that have to do with anything?

If a culture/nation was made up mostly of children, would it be wrong to have a baby? If the majority of people in a culture/nation are married, would it be wrong for single people to marry?

JW's that tried to Blackball my Hubby in work , since D/A

many of you know that my husband's work is fixing hail damage in cars, and that we have traveled for 10 years from colorado, texas, ok, kansas, etc.

but those mainly were his best contacts , and also all jw's in the business.. last summer one of our best contacts who lives in co, called to tell my husband that he had a hail storm hit that very day, and said that since he has d/a himself he will no longer work him.

i understand that some may not let their conscience do that being firm jw believers.
