Originally, to ask about doubts that I had as a JW(inactive, but still in). Searching here and following many of the links provided by ones here helped me to prove to myself that I wasn't making a mistake by no longer accepting the WTS as God's organization. At first I jumped back and forth as to wether I was making a mistake or not. Now that I know I'm no longer under the control of(or fear) the WTS I come by to see what news may be breaking about new or existing scandals and what "new light" has been dispensed by the WTS as shared by those who still attend meetings but come here incognito. And then I read something I feel I just have to add to or share an experience about. Occasionally I just have to try to make a joke about something that strikes me funny.

Why do CO's always have such big fat briefcases?
by truthseeker inlaptop?
contributions?
it seems the more responsibility the brothers have, the bigger their briefcase..

I knew an elder(elder, yea, right, same age as me) who had an enormous bookbag/briefcase. It had to be the kind that encyclopedia salesmen used. I know with this guy, he carried it to look important. I remember running microphones and having to sidestep that monstrosity because he kept it in the aisle.
A funny story on brothers and their briefcases: I knew a guy who wasn't a JW but had a relative who was. This relative came to town to visit and was asked to give the Sunday talk. My friend was invited to hear his relative speak. He agreed, showed up at the hall with a Bible, but as he came in and saw all the brothers walking in carrying bookbags and briefcases, he felt out of place. So he went back out to his car and got his work briefcase out of the trunk and came back in with it so he would fit in. He still loves to tell that story.

Getting Baptized, did you really want to, or did you feel extreme pressure?
by run dont walk ini was never baptized, but boy did i feel the pressure ....... what are you waiting for ???
don't you love jehovah ???
(i was in my late teens and brought up in the borg)

I was pressured. Everyone my age was getting baptized at 14 and 13. I didn't. I felt like "if" I got baptized it would be something I did after graduating school. I was not ready to "dedicate" my life just yet. But the pressure kept getting put on me, "You're the only one your age not baptized." "You're 15 years old, that's old enough to make start making important decisions." "Don't you love Jehovah?" I consented and got baptized at 15 1/2. I knew I wasn't ready. To this day when I see kids under the age of 16 getting baptized I feel a little sadness for them, because in most cases, deep down they know they aren't ready and they are being pressured.
There's a law that states something about anyone under 17 can't be held liable for a contract they sign. I wonder if that applies to baptism contracts?

Another New Rule-----You Can't Record Prayers at the District Convention
by minimus inmy mother told me that she got a video from a sister that already went to the convention.
the entire program was recorded except for the prayers.
the sister said the society says we have to shut off the recording if the prayer is being given.

I actually hated to listen to recorded talks. I hated it when someone loaned my mother so-and-so's "fine" talk....
Worse than that was written notes read aloud at JW gatherings. I remember some Bethelite elder super-dub type that visited our cong. and brought notes from the Gilead graduation(I think) and everybody gathered 'round after dinner at one of the friend's houses while he read page after page after page of the notes that he had taken. I think he wrote down every word spoken. It was one of the dullest nights of my life.
When I was Sound Nazi, we recorded song, prayer, everything. The brothers usually made it a point to try to include the elderly and sickly ones in the closing prayer, knowing that it was being recorded and would be passed on to them. We recorded every meeting and one audiophile brother would take it home and make multiple copies for whoever wanted a copy. He kept a highly organized filing system of every meeting and talk. Talk about obsessive compulsive.

I know where're ya coming from, Min. Explain to the average dub all the fallacies of the 607 date and they get that glazed over, deer caught in the headlight look. They don't understand how their(the WTS) explanation works, so therefore they aren't going to understand why it doesn't work. Since they are conditioned to accept whatever they are told without question, they will just blink, and zone out until the next meeting when they are told they have the "truth".
But when one of em wakes up and realizes something is amiss, this is excellant material to prove that the JWs are not the one "true" religion and the GB is not God's chosen earthly spokesmen. It's a house of cards just waiting for a breeze.

I'll never forget all of the sisters who would try to control everything that went on in my pathetic little life
Not just sisters. Some of the biggest gossip-mongers in the congregations I attended were brothers. Usually elders, cause they had the low-down on everything and everybody. I learned the juicest news when I went out in service with just a couple or three elders. I'd sit quietly in the back and take it all in.

I put my burden on Jehovah, but he gave it back

remember how he didn't help?
tell some of your experiences of how jehovah didn't help you in your time of need.

You're name, uknowthetruth, is somewhat ironic. Those in "the truth" as a JW don't really know the truth about "the truth". Once you learn the truth about "the truth" you no longer remain a JW, if you're true to yourself.
