Doesn't surprise me that he pulled you aside and counseld you. It was an unspoken rule when I was in and giving public prayers, that you didn't pray for non-JWs in public prayers. Private prayers and family prayers were one thing, but public prayers were to stay focused on JWs and JW events only. And that, of course, influenced the private and home prayers to being very similar, removing the non-JW from the thoughts of the group.
You insiders have gotta start keeping your voice recorders on your phones on and catch some of these gems.

It is very insensitive to say that JW's care ONLY about their kids.
Deep down inside, JWs care about people in general. I'm sure they were as horrified as the average person at the news of the shooting on Friday. The true inner self does care about other children outside of their community.
Yet, their cult personality often supercedes the real personality. Which at times means that , yes, they do care MORE about their own kind. It's apparent in their theology. They are looking forward to a time when their god will destroy the wicked and preserve the faithful. Just who is it that suffers during this armageddon? Everyone but JWs, including children, family and neighbors.
I'm curious as to how many JWs uttered these words, or similar, over the weekend, "Oh how we need the new system" or "Jehovah will destroy these wicked types at Armageddon", not realizing that while they are mourning the death of innocent children at the hand of a crazed gunman, at the same time they are wishing for the destruction of mankind in general, just to take out the worst of them.
It's disturbing actually, but they don't see it. They're too indoctrinated.

JW.org is the preferred news outlet for 'true' servants of Jehovah, you know - WT cult members...
So the news is slanted for their sensibilities. Most hardcore JWs immediately think, "Oh no... I wonder if any of our young brothers and sisters were involved..."
Of course CNN, MSNBC and Fox aren't going to break down the religious leanings of the victims, so the WT site has to be there to answer the burning questions of their followers.
And yes, it is pretty pathetic, looking at it from an outsider's (normal people) viewpoint.

A Nut or Criminals Will Always Find A Way To Kill Or Hurt Someone If They Want To
by minimus infor the record, i don't think a person should be able to use "assault weapons" or "machine guns" or "rocket launchers".
i do think guns should be allowed.
but certainly not everyone is "qualified" to use a firearm.. even if you legally, rightfully can have a weapon, it doesn't mean that a "kook" wouldn't steal it and use it in a nefarious way.. i am convinced that you could take licenses away from drinkers and they still could get behind the wheel and wreak havoc.. you could ban switchblades and gun silencers and people will still find a way to quickly slice you up or muffle a sound.. you could ban or try to curtail cough medicines and people will still find a way to get high.. we cannot, government cannot---control what people will do.

I thought he used two semi-automatic pistols to do the shooting and left the rifle in his car.
I've read some reports that said he used only pistols and then I read other reports that said he used a rifle. I'm sure there are conflicting reports all over the place and it will be a while before the facts are set straight.

Too many people get sidetracked by the term "assault". Even the news reporters don't know the difference. I saw an FBI arms expert set straight a CNN reporter on the difference between an "asasult" rifle and a "sporting" rifle. The Bushmaster rifle reported to be used Friday is a legal semi-automatic weapon. The rifle used in Aurora was a legal semi-automatic rifle. Go ahead and ban 'assault' rifles. It won't stop the next nut from opening up in a school, mall, theater, etc. And even if you force weapon manufacturers to not style their sporting rilfes to appear as a military rifle, the next nut will use a Ruger or Remington hunting rifle. No real difference in the outcome. A crazy person with a gun, willing to shoot innocent people is the same, whether the gun "looks" like an assault weapon or your grandfather's squirrel rifle.
I think there needs to be some kind of revamped gun control, but this knee-jerk reaction based on ignorance of actual weapon technology is not the way to start.

Just Because Someone Is A JW "Apologist", It Doesn't Mean WE Have To Be Condescending & Nasty
