  Are baptized Witnesses that are no longer in the "truth", but were NEVER DF'D, now to be shunned and treated like disfellowshipped ones?

  a relative of mine was telling me, that in his, and a few neighboring congregations, there is a little confusion amongst some of the jw's about this "issue".

  some families are having a hard time about whether certain relatives will be attending certain family functions, because some family members that are no longer in the "truth", might be invited to these functions.

  mind you, these persons were never disfellowshipped.

  The 2016 convention had several talks that warned against associating with ANY who have become inactive, or faded..as well as "less spiritual ones" still in the congregation.

  While it may be worded a little more 'in your face', the actual admonition is not really different from years past. They've always warned against associating with anyone who is 'weak' or 'less spiritual'.

  That's not to say they aren't ramping up the rhetoric to instill (more) fear, but stripped down to its essence, it's the same basic tenant as always.

  10 plus years....that's a lot of trying do disprove something you once thought was right.

  your limited lines and clipped pics have been boring me for close on 10 years now.

  wife and i have watched the whole series and just finished episode 7 last night.

  personally, i am seeing a great deal more subtle and day to day similarities to watchtower than the obvious ones i already knew existed, ie shunning.

  very eye opening and heartbreaking, even more so than going clear in my mind.

  It's easy to see the similarities for those of us who were once inside, but are now out.

  For those still inside the JWs, if they even bothered to watch it, they would focus on the leadership, the theology, the physical confrontations and private eye stuff, and never make a correlation. The shunning, the disconnections, the accusations of 'crimes', and other control methods would not penetrate a JWs mind to the point of them seeing the similarities.

  Watching the one ex member who broke down in tears and asked for a break, when talking about losing his family brings us anxiety and touches us... we've seen it and experienced it. A JW watching that same scene would not react as we do. They will not feel that empathy, they're above it all. They have Jehovah's spirit and are living in a spiritual paradise. Too bad for this guy, but had he been a JW, he wouldn't be going through this. I'm generalizing of course, but for the most part, a hard core, zealous JW has little to no empathy for the world around them.

  after much research and prayer i am returning to being a jehovah's witness i can find nothing that eliminates them from being god's directed people , in the end they will reach the end of there journey despite mistakes and errors just like the israelites entered the promised land , thanks for your input and all the best on your personal journey ☺.

  How to reply when someone asks about your spiritual health

  first of all, sorry if i cannot correctly express the original expression used in my native language to ask for the "spiritual condition".. a few years ago some member of the family asks my wife directly how is her "spiritual health" (for me it's one of the many strange vocabulary used by jw like "the slave says...").

  she was catched by surprise with the direct question and says that everything is ok... and luckily someone call them for lunch.. my question is: do you have any good answers for that question?

  you can be ironic/use some humor because the question is a little bit anecdotical .

  "How's your spiritual health?"

  "It's fine. Why do ask?"

  Answer a question with a question. The intent of their question isn't to get a straight answer, it's to put you ill at ease. Why would they ask that... they must know something... So, don't give them that opportunity. Put the pressure back on them. In essence you're saying, 'why would you ask that... what business is it of yours... are you insinuating something... they'll back off pretty quick

  Some apostates are coming across as crazed psychopaths

  i'm not sure whether or not my view on this is correct so please leave your input.

  in recent months i've been viewing youtube videos.

  again, it might just be my view but there has been an increased amount of random people grabbing a camera and doing vlogs.

  Leaving the jws is a "lifestyle choice" according to a counsellor

  so i had my first appointment with a counsellor, of course i explained about being a born in jw, mentally leaving, the penalty of doing so and therefore the mental strain of pretending to be someone i'm not.

  her response was that she couldn't help me with that because leaving a cult was a "lifestyle choice".

  i tried to say to her that its a cult not a religion and how it brain washed me but no.

  I had a few counseling sessions a few years ago. The therapist/counselor pretty much said the same thing, not those exact words, just a similar thought. The therapist looked at all religions as equal, as far as people choosing/believing in , and could not see the damage that the high control groups were doing to people. Cult was not in their vocabulary.

  They want you to look inside at how you process the situation, not how to blame outside forces. I get that to a degree, but if they don't realize that their patient really is a victim, they're not going to be able to treat the situation effectively.

  Is the year 2020 the new prediction for Armageddon?

  i have had a conversation this evening with a jw friend i have known since childhood.

  he is of the opinion that armageddon will have come and gone within the next 5 years.

  are the jws now pinpointing 2020 as the supposed year?

  Cognitive dissonance. They (most hardcore ones that is) have some form of this belief embedded deep in their indoctrinated brain, while at the same time go about their lives pretty much like the rest of the world around them.

  I remember my F-I-L in the course of 5 minutes going from how 'the end' would be here between 5 - 10 years to talking about how he was going to spend his retirement.

  My Dad wants to study with me

  so my parents continue to pester me about getting baptized.

  the other day my dad told me that i was old enough to make a decision, and was wondering why i wasn't ready (assembly is in a few weeks) so i told him calmly that i have many doubts and if i were to get baptized it has to be 100 percent my idea.

  he was a little annoyed by this, and now wants to study the "is there a creator that cares about you" book (which is complete bs) with me.

  Son: Sure, Dad! Let's start in Genesis chapter 1

  Dad: Well, I was thinking of studying [insert current WT study book here]

  Son: But, Dad - that's studying [that] book, not the Bible. Let's read and study the Bible. We can use [that] book for reference, along with other reference material. This way we're really studying the Bible. This should be fun! [hold the sarcasm down as much as possible]

  And then prepare for destroying the WT creation doctrine. If you can't get out of the first chapter of Genesis, you'll never have to worry about studying the seven times, or generations, or Jesus, or great crowd, or other sheep, or Armageddon
