i've been lurking here for a couple of weeks now.

i'm starting to "awaken" and it is all that has been occupying my mind.

i've always, always had doubts, some of which i expressed to family members who always had the same replies:.

I just read the Mind Control section on JWFacts and my head is still spinning. I’m one of those people that expects things right away, but all of your responses tell me that it’s okay to not be able to process it right away.
I still even feel guilty posting here!

It will take time to process. It will even be a three steps forward, two steps backwards progress. You'll think you've got a handle on it, then you doubt yourself. You actually doubt your doubting. That's the indoctrination still holding on.

It gets better over time. In time, you will resolve all the issues that concern you the most, and all the little deals that aren't worth a lot of worry will slide off, and you'll move forward even more.

It took me weeks to work up the nerve to post here - a long time ago. And even then I wasn't sure what the heck I was doing. Was I making a mistake, or was I really finding out I was in a cult?

Anytime a JW uses a normal conversation to promote their version of 'god's kingdom', they're not sincere. It's a ploy to sell something.

If you want to talk to somebody honestly, as a human being, ask him about his kids. Find out what his dreams are - just to find out, for no other reason. Because as soon as you lay your hands on a conversation to steer it, it's not a conversation anymore; it's a pitch. And you're not a human being; you're a marketing rep.

It doesn't matter your celebrity, your skill, your talent, your money... Anyone can be susceptible to being recruited into a religious scam.

This guy was a NFL player. NBA players have become JWs. Golfers have become (or are) JWs. Popular musicians are/have been JWs. Doctors, lawyers, window washers... all are susceptible.

Convention “Highlights” - bwhahaha!

(boy, they weren’t kidding when they spoke about being long-suffering and having endurance!).

but what were some of your convention highlights, or lowlights, from back in the day?.

"Dinner" always served in the massive tents they set up and cost 65 cents. Some cheap-ass cola as part of the meal. "Tables constructed of pieces of plywood. You stood when you ate. Pioneers ate free. The smell of the steam cleaning they used to clean the trays.

My very first convention memory was at an International assembly, where food was served in the large tents and you stood at makeshift plywood tables. Sawdust on the ground. The smell of bulk cooked food, plywood and sawdust all intermingled together under those huge tents. I was so young, I could not reach the table top, I had to hold my plate and try to negotiate holding it and eating with out spilling on my little boy suit. And then reach up to the table top to get my drink, without spilling it.

It's a memory seared into my mind, and now as we describe those memories, it doesn't sound like we're describing part of a Worldwide Brotherhood meal experience, it sounds more like a refugee camp.

Oh man, you just brought back memories for me... when I was a teenager, I was in 'expediting'. We took all the cooked food from the kitchens to the concession stands. I remember the styrofoam coolers filled with burgers, sandwiches, etc. The smell...the smell... the horror... the horror. I bet Colonel Kurtz worked in JW convention foodservice before he went nuts in the jungle.

here is a fascinating subject.

according to the bible , one of adam's first assignments was to name all the animals including the sea creatures and dinosaurs of course.

we don't know how long this took but, as all witnesses know, the time period is crucial in working out the timing of armageddon).

How To Fade Away Cleanly?

this is my first post and hopefully i can get some advice and input.

i have been actively involved with the organization for a little over 10 years now.

i began studying in high school, got baptized and my family fortunately did not.

I have asked my COBE to delete me as a ministerial servant and I have made him aware that I don't plan to attend meetings or participate in field service any more. The elders are aware that I had doubts before and that I was planning to leave. It seems as though they are going to allow me to fade away into inactivity as long as I don't disrupt the congregation with apostasy.

Hope it works for you, but don't be surprised if they pull the rug out from underneath. These may be good guy elders, not wanting to push an issue, but when the CO comes along and reviews records, it could all change. You haven't gotten off scot-free. Watch your back trail, don't get complacent, don't expect to skate away unscathed.

Most branches of the military have strict grooming rules. Some large US companies have strict grooming rules. The New York Yankees baseball team doesn't allow facial hair period.

If you're an employee, you can quit. It might not be prudent, depending on the perks of the company, but you won't be shunned for finding another job.

If you're in the military, you don't have to sign back up once your time is done, and again, no one will shun you because you moved on.

If you're a Yankee, you know going in the deal. If it's a deal breaker, you can always sign with the Red Sox. And still the Yankee players won't shun you.
