  Well, well, well. Mr Governing Body member bought a cart full of booze, when he should have been at the meeting. Now, to be perfectly frank, or Tony in this case, there's nothing wrong with this, from a casual bystander viewpoint. Drinking is not forbidden for dubs. Buying liquor is not forbidden. So part of me is wondering, why all the sensationalism? It's just an old guy in a liquor store buying a cache of whiskey. If you lived in my town, you'd catch me doing the same.

  However, Mr. Morris is a GB member. A man that goes on JW TV and preaches about giving everything you have to their organization. They run videos of CGI children giving their ice cream money to the Society, because that's more important than an ice cream cone on a hot day. Morris rails against the world and it's pervasive influence and low morals. WT leaders in their talks and publications strive to control the behavior of JWs through peer pressure. You wouldn't, shouldn't do anything that could stumble your brother. Methinks Brother Morris doesn't practice what he preaches. In short, he's a hypocrite. Is this a huge issue for the organization or its leaders? No. It's barely a blip on the radar. But it is evidence enough for those who pay attention that these spiritual men aren't any different than anyone else, and shouldn't be held in the esteem that they are.

  on a side note, the 'captcha' thing that asks you to click on cars or signs, etc... this time was 'click on the store fronts'. And there was a liquor store LOL

  some witnesses realize that they got into a religion and it turned out to be disastrous.

  many decide they have to somehow get out.

  some do it right away and others take longer.. where are you in your journey?

  I haven't identified as a JW for over 15 years now. I still have connections via family, I may attend the Memorial (or may not, depends...) but I am no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Never DAd, never was DFd, just slowly, quietly faded away.

  But I understand those who can't just walk away. They may come from generations of JWs, their spouses, their parents, their siblings, their children are all still 'in'. It's tough to take a stand in certain situations.

  I don't think we can judge anyone who chooses to stay inside as a PIMO. And some are acting as double agents, staying in, gathering intel, spreading it to the vast apostate army. We each have to do what's right for us individually.

  Having said that, I can see where some may be more enslaved to the fear of the situation than to the situation itself. But, again, not my place to judge.

  Some jw families I grew up with in the 60’s and 70’s still felt vaccines were wrong and didn’t allow their kids to get vaccinated but I’m not sure what watchtowers official stance was In those years.

  I grew up in the 60s/70s, and I remember my uberzealous mother wanted to not vaccinate us kids. My father was more practical (and not so zealous as our mother), and overruled her.

  After all, E.T. is make-believe. Christ is reality.

  BwaaHaHaHaHa... Hoo boy, those Watchtower writers can really tickle the funny bones at times.

  I remember the backlash against E.T. - after the article came out, and it was reiterated in convention talks. Up till then no one gave it a second thought, just a heartwarming story about a boy and his alien. But, noooo, the WTS had to rob that warm glow from us. Make us feel guilty about watching a harmless movie. Spielberg, you tool of Satan.

  I also remember a Bethel elder giving a talk at a convention the summer the 2nd Indiana Jones movie came out, and blasted it, for it's goriness, and links to spiritistic activity.

  And of course, The Exorcist had everyone all keyed up. I can't remember all the different JW urgan legends I heard about dubs who attempted to watch the movie, and had some misfortune befall them. Directly related to the demons who were only able to get to us through William Peter Blatty.
  

  Really, any movie, band, celebrity, or fad that hit big, had the WTS finding fault with it somehow. From, 'it's time consuming' to 'it's demon inspired', it didn't matter, they were going to do their best to keep you from spending your time and money on it, and instead, devote it to them.

  yesterday i drove passed a town a couple of hours from my home and saw this kh under construction.

  this is the first new design kh i've seen in washington state even though i would think by now another one or two have been built.

  maybe not with their financial situation being the way it is.

  one day the elders put an immediate stop to it. Lists like this, or even my friend's floppy disk with a list of names were too dangerous.

  I remember similar reactions to early computer lists kept by tech savvy servants. But what's the difference between an Excel spreadsheet of JW names vs the typewritten list kept in the Super Size Book Bag Brother Pompous carried? Not much. The fear of computers was another means to induce fear of the 'world' into followers.

  But this expose by the newspaper is different. This is the same paper that has been exposing JWs for their mishandling of child abuse cases. Their series of articles is damning, as well as evidence from other states, and countries. Now you have evidence of a WT official giving orders to destroy records during this same time period of facing more intense scrutiny of their child abuse cover ups. Attorneys are going to eat them alive in upcoming trials.

  Might even go so far as to have a special announcement made from the platform during the midweek meeting, as was done in 2002 or whenever it was that the "Dateline" special on child abuse aired.

  I kinda remember that. I was attending the occasional meeting still, even after starting to have serious doubts, and that announcement was another 'aha!' moment. An investigative report on issues in the religion, but instead of facing them head on, the leadership warned everyone to not listen to the 'outsiders'.

  My JW Elder Brother Passed Away

  he was basically a good man, just a believer in the religion.

  when we were both elders we were best of friends and then things deteriorated when i was not an elder for a while.

  then after becoming an elder again, i slowly drifted away from the religion and he drifted further away from me.
